The Mafia King’s Forbidden Wife
Chapter Five: The Billionaire’s Weakness
The moment Elena heard that her father was coming, something inside her broke.
Not fear.
Not anger.
Disappointment.
Because somewhere deep in her heart, she had hoped Adrian was wrong.
She had hoped that her father — the man who raised her, protected her, and told her stories when she was a child — was not the villain everyone believed him to be.
But now…
She wasn’t sure what to believe anymore.
“Why would my father want to silence me?” Elena asked.
Adrian remained silent.
That silence was becoming something she hated.
“You do this every time,” she said.
His eyes moved toward her.
“Do what?”
“Stand there like you know everything while I’m left trying to understand pieces of my own life.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“You want the truth?”
“Yes.”
“Then prepare yourself to hate the people you love.”
The words hit harder than she expected.
Because she knew exactly who he meant.
Her father.
---
An hour later, the gates of De Luca Manor opened.
A black car entered the property.
Elena stood near the entrance, watching as Marco Rossi stepped out.
Her father looked older than she remembered.
But his confidence was still there.
The same confidence of a man who believed the world belonged to him.
“Elena.”
His voice softened when he saw her.
For a moment, she almost ran to him.
Almost.
Then she remembered the photograph.
The secrets.
The lies.
“Father.”
The word came out colder than she intended.
Marco noticed.
His eyes moved toward Adrian, who stood beside her.
“So this is what he has done.”
Elena frowned.
“What?”
“He turned you against me.”
Adrian’s expression remained calm.
“No.”
His voice was cold.
“She finally started thinking for herself.”
Marco’s face darkened.
“You always were good at manipulating people, Adrian.”
“And you were always good at destroying them.”
The tension between the two men filled the room.
Elena looked between them.
Enough.
“Stop.”
Both men turned toward her.
“I want answers.”
Her father sighed.
“Elena, you don’t understand what you’re involved in.”
“Then explain.”
He looked away.
That was when she knew.
He was hiding something.
“You married him because you were forced?”
Her father said nothing.
“Did you know my mother trusted him?”
Silence.
“Did you betray his family?”
Marco’s expression changed.
Only for a second.
But Elena saw it.
The guilt.
“You don’t know what happened.”
“Then tell me.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
The answer made her laugh bitterly.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
She looked at Adrian.
“Everyone claims they’re protecting me while they destroy my life.”
---
Suddenly, a loud crash came from outside.
Everyone froze.
Adrian immediately reacted.
His hand moved toward his weapon.
“Down!”
Before Elena could understand what was happening, Adrian pulled her against him.
The sound of breaking glass filled the room.
Guards rushed in.
Chaos exploded.
Marco moved toward Elena.
But Adrian was faster.
He placed himself between them.
Protecting her.
Again.
When the danger passed, Elena realized something.
Adrian’s hand was bleeding.
A piece of broken glass had cut him while he shielded her.
“You’re hurt.”
He looked down at his hand.
“It’s nothing.”
“That’s a terrible lie.”
For some reason, the concern in her voice surprised him.
She took a cloth from the table and wrapped it around his hand.
The room became quiet.
Even Adrian seemed unsure what to do.
Because nobody treated Adrian De Luca like a person.
They treated him like a weapon.
A monster.
But Elena was looking at him like he was just a man.
And that frightened him.
---
Later that night, Adrian stood alone in his office.
The same office Elena had entered.
The same office where he kept the secrets he refused to share.
He looked at the photograph on his desk.
Elena’s mother.
A woman who had once told him:
"One day, someone will see the good you hide from the world."
He had never believed her.
Until Elena.
A knock sounded.
“Come in.”
His right-hand man, Luca, entered.
“The attack wasn’t from Marco Rossi.”
Adrian looked up.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
A pause.
“The person who ordered it wanted Elena alive.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“Why?”
Luca hesitated.
“Because they believe she has something her mother left behind.”
Adrian went still.
The secret.
The one thing everyone had been searching for.
The reason Elena’s mother was killed.
“What?”
Luca looked serious.
“The Rossi family’s hidden account.”
Adrian frowned.
“That account doesn’t exist.”
“Apparently…”
Luca placed a file on the desk.
“It does.”
Adrian opened it.
Inside was a picture.
A picture of Elena’s mother holding a small necklace.
The same necklace Elena had worn since childhood.
His eyes darkened.
“No…”
Luca looked at him.
“Boss?”
Adrian closed the file.
For the first time in years, he felt something he hated.
Fear.
Because if the necklace was what he thought it was…
Elena wasn’t just a pawn in this war.
She was the key.
---
Across the mansion, Elena sat awake, staring at her wedding ring.
She hated admitting it.
But Adrian De Luca was changing the way she saw him.
He was dangerous.
Cold.
Unpredictable.
But when danger came…
He protected her.
And that scared her more than anything.
Because the man she was supposed to hate…
Was slowly becoming the person she trusted most.
And neither of them realized it yet.
But in the world they lived in…
Love was the most dangerous weakness of all.
To be continued…
