He awoke in a beautiful field, it smelled of fragrant cherry blossoms. The scent brought on a twinge of heartache and nostalgia. He felt as if he should remember something important, but the only thought available was his name.
“Wake up, she’s coming.” A deep rumbling voice said in his head.
“Who?” Kai asked to the voice.
The voice sighed, resigned, “The Goddess. This is her realm. Pay attention though. What she will tell you is truth.”
“Alright.” Kai replied
He waited until the woman appeared beside him with her toes in buried in the grass.
“Hello Kai, I am Nyx. Are you alright?” she asked softly.
“Yes, well, I’m okay I guess.” He said sheepishly. “I feel like I’m missing something. Something important.”
Nyx smiled, “Yes, this you is a new version of who you were. You were once a grand warrior, however, I’m not permitted to tell you much more than that. Your journey has only just begun child.”
“I don’t believe I’m a child, Goddess, as you can see I have the body and voice of a grown man.”
Nyx laughed heartily. A sound that resembled soft tinkling chimes. “Yes, that you do. But to me, you are merely but a babe. You have only just begun your life as I’ve made you.”
“Wait, what?” he gawked at her surprised. “Made me?”
Nyx sighed, “Child, before you were who you are now, we made a deal. Deep down you’ll know that what I’m saying is truth. Because said oath is imprinted on your soul.”
“Who am I exactly?” Kai asked.
Nyx gazed ahead as she answered. She smiled softly, “You are now a child of mine. I called you here through your dreams because I sensed your frustration and confusion. You seemed lost, but I assure you that after today…you’ll have the answers you seek.”
Kai gazed at the lake, a feeling of excitement buzzing through his veins. Something big was on the horizon. He could only imagine what it could be.
Nyx cleared her throat in an obvious attempt to gain his attention, “ For the next few days you’ll be here Kai. You’ll need to train for what’s coming up. You and the few alphas you’ve chosen need every advantage possible or you well not fair well.”
Kai balked. Train? Here? What exactly was he up against to have to train in the realm of his Goddess?
She continued to speak, “I am not going to give you the knowledge you seek unless you can prove yourself to me. You will go through a series of trials. If you prove that you obtain within you what is necessary, you will pass. You will have the guidance of your wolf as well. You start as soon as you pass those entwined Ash trees on the other side of the lake.”
Worry coursed through him like lightning. Would he pass? What would happen if he failed? No! He trains and creates those worthy to lead their own packs and abide by his law as Alpha King. If he wasn’t worthy, then the Goddess never would have created him to begin with.
“What happens if I prove myself?” Kai inquired.
“That remains to be seen, my child.” The Goddess replied.
And with that, Kai ventured to his test with a renewed sense of determination. He must pass. From the look in her eyes…he had no room for failure.
