Amaia gasped and, in a moment of shock and disbelief, she slapped him.
Her eyes widened as the reality of what she’d done sank in, especially when his cold silver eyes turned to meet hers.
Clearing her throat, she stammered, “Uh, you kind of caught me off guard there. I tend to react before I think… I guess I’m a little impulsive like that. What kind of joke was that?” She tried to explain, awkwardly chuckling and playfully tapping his arm.
Oh goodness, am I done for?
“I don’t joke,” he said abruptly, his expression unreadable.
She looked up at him, stunned.
Truly, this Alpha people call the devil shouldn't be the type to make jokes.
If he wasn’t joking, then he was serious?!
No! Did he bring me here to sleep with me? To force himself on me? This perverted bastard!
She instinctively took a step back, her mind racing for a way out. The room’s large floor-to-ceiling window caught her eye, but there was another, much higher up.
How could she escape when the door was out of the question?
She had to get out of here.
The Alpha noticed her growing anxiety.
It surprised him.
Why had she come to him in the first place if not to do what every other woman had attempted? Seduce him? Sleep with him?
Every woman who had managed to slip past his guards had met the same fate: death.
Yet, this one in front of him was still breathing. It had been roughly three hours since they met, and she remained alive.
He was curious.
But now she was acting like a scared, sheltered girl. Wasn’t she here to seduce him? To sleep with him like all the others?
He studied her closely and asked, “Are you playing hard to get?”
“What?” she blurted out, her expression shifting between fear and calculation.
He could feel the fear radiating off her, filling the room like a palpable presence.
With his heightened senses, he could hear her heart pounding erratically in her chest.
Something didn’t add up.
He pressed further, “Why were you at the event disguised as a boy?”
“You mean a man?” she shot back, frowning.
Despite her obvious fear, she still had the nerve to argue.
“To me, you looked like a boy,” he responded truthfully. “A little boy.”
She glared at him, her eyes narrowing into a scowl as she scoffed in disbelief. “Unbelievable! Do you actually think I went there to see you? The great Alpha of the Redmoon Pack, the one everyone is terrified of—blah, blah, blah. Well, I’m not scared of you! Who would have thought the almighty Alpha is just a perverted creep? You’re out of your mind if you think I’m going to sleep with you! I’d rather die!”
He suddenly felt a sting to his pride—this woman had guts.
How dare she insult her Alpha?!
He was the Alpha! The leader of the Redmoon Pack, a figure of power and respect!
Everyone else knew to fear and revere him, but she clearly didn’t care.
He thought she cared about her life… The audacity she had to say she would rather die than submit to him—it was almost unbelievable.
Did she not value her life? Or was she just two-faced?
Either way, she was playing a dangerous game, one that could only end in one of two ways: either she would sleep with him, or she would die, or die regardless.
It wasn’t up to him anymore; it was the natural order of things.
He exhaled deeply, his eyes narrowing as he spoke. “Well, if you’re not afraid, I could burn you to death. I’ve done it twice before, and I can assure you, it’s a slow and painful way to go. Would you like to be the third candidate? Because you’re more than welcome to try!”
He possessed the elemental power of fire, and he wasn’t bluffing. He could easily turn her into ashes if she continued to defy him.
Amaia’s bravado began to crumble as fear took hold of her.
She trembled, her eyes welling up with tears.
She realized that she was digging herself deeper into a hole she might not escape from.
Her reckless nature had always been her downfall, and now it was leading her straight to destruction. She didn't need that at the moment.
She could fall to her knees and beg for mercy.
“You said you were willing to do anything to avoid the dungeon, didn’t you? And I'm sure getting killed is included. I mean, you are clearly guilty of fraud. Let’s not forget you ruined a suit that costs more than you’ll ever see in your lifetime. So, yes, you owe me, little one. And you’ll pay me back on my terms. You should be grateful you even get to breathe while doing it.”
He sounded arrogant, and seemed to relish the control he had over her.
Amaia was in a pickle.
Her mind was racing for a way out of this nightmare.
She watched as he smirked and casually shrugged off his jacket.
Fear gripped her as he began to unbutton his shirt, revealing a chiseled torso.
Then, he peeled off his shirt completely—oh my! Look at those abs! And his biceps! They flexed with every movement.
But when his hands moved toward his trousers, panic seized her. She quickly turned away, pressing her face against the wall near the door, her heart racing.
Her eyes widened in shock. “What do you think you’re doing?! Do you just sleep with any woman?! I’m obviously not your type!”
[Access denied. Unrecognized face detected!]
[Access denied. Unrecognized face detected!]
Amaia’s heart sank as she realized she was staring directly at the facial recognition scanner. Damn it!
[Access denied. Unrecognized face detected!]
Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!
“If you don’t remove your face from the scanner, you might break it and lock us in here for a long time,” the Alpha said calmly, almost amused by her panic. He shook his head as he walked toward his luxurious bathroom.
Amaia quickly stepped away from the scanner, her heart pounding. She remained there, suddenly noticing things were quiet, but then she heard it—the sound of water running. The Alpha was in the shower.
She let out a deep breath, feeling a small sense of relief that he wasn’t there with her at that moment.
But that relief was short-lived.
Her eyes darted around the room, searching for a way out.
She approached the floor-to-ceiling window and couldn’t help but be momentarily captivated by the breathtaking view. The landscape outside was stunning.
With a sigh, she realized how late it was getting. The sky was darkening, but she knew she won’t be missed.
Her parents probably wouldn’t even notice her absence—they were always more concerned about her sister, Veera.
Those brats had even taken her phone away. Not that it mattered; even if she had it, who could she possibly call for help?
Damn it!
“…?”
How am I going to escape? There was no way out.
The house was four stories tall, and they were on the third floor. There was no escape.
Her heart skipped a beat as she heard a door open behind her. It was him.
His scent reached her, now unsettlingly familiar.
She wondered if he was naked, but she didn’t dare turn around. She stood frozen.
After what felt like minutes but was only seconds, his voice broke the silence.
“You can look now. Don’t worry, there’s nothing to see…” he trailed off as he moved to lie down on his king-sized bed.
