Chapter 4

1035 Words
Later that day, Taylor found me in the courtyard, standing all alone with myself, looking very confused. "Emilia, would you like to take a walk with me?" he asked. I nodded, feeling a mix of curiosity and nervousness. "Sure." We walked through the forest surrounding the fortress. The trees were tall, and the air was fresh. It was peaceful, an opposite feeling to the tension I felt inside the fortress. "How are you finding your new home?" Taylor asked, breaking the silence. "It's... different," I admitted. "I'm still getting used to it." Taylor nodded. "I understand. Change is never easy." We walked in silence for a while, and then I gathered the courage to ask, "Taylor, can you tell me about your past? I want to know more about you." Taylor looked at me, his face like a stone. "What do you want to know?" he asked, sounding tough. I took a deep breath. "I want to know about you," I said, trying to be brave. "I want to understand you better." Taylor let out a big sigh. "My life before now was hard," he said slowly. "I did some things I'm not happy about." I tried to smile. "Everyone makes mistakes," I said gently. "I just want to know the real you." Taylor didn't say anything for a while. Then he started talking about his life as a kid in the pack. He said it was hard, especially after his mom and dad died. He had to be the Alpha when he was still young. I could see he was sad when he talked about it. I felt sorry for him. But there was still something he didn't tell me. "What about the girl you loved?" I asked him softly. Taylor's face got hard. "I don't want to talk about her," he said. "It's okay," I said. "Don't tell me if you don't want to." Taylor didn't say anything for a long time. Then he said, "Her name was Lila. She was really strong and pretty. We loved each other, but things went wrong. She left the pack and I never saw her again." I felt sad for him. "I'm sorry," I said. Taylor said, "That's all in the past. Let's think about it now." We spent a lot of time together after that. We talked about the pack and what we wanted in life. I felt like I was getting to know the real Taylor, but something was still missing. One night, I was walking quietly through the big room where everyone hangs out. I didn't mean to, but I heard Jane talking to Taylor. Jane said to Taylor, "You can't keep thinking about the past. Lila is gone. You have a new life now." Taylor looked troubled. "I know that, but it's not easy," he said, his voice low. Then Jane said something that made my blood run cold, "Emilia needs to know the truth. She needs to understand." I felt my heart pounding in my chest. What truth? What did they mean? That night, I went to Taylor's room. He was sitting at his desk, looking tired. "Taylor, we need to talk," I said, my voice shaking a little. Taylor looked surprised. "What's wrong, Emilia?" he asked, standing up and coming towards me. "I heard what you and Jane were saying," I said, my voice shaking. "What do you mean, I need to know the truth?" Taylor sighed, looking troubled. "Emilia, there's something you need to know. Lila... she was more than just someone I loved. She was meant to be the leader of the pack with me." My heart felt like ice. "What happened?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. Taylor looked down at his hands. "She left. She couldn't handle the pressure. But she's still out there somewhere, and sometimes, I think about what could have been." I felt like a knife was twisting in my stomach. "Do you still love her?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. Taylor was quiet for a long time. Finally, he looked at me. "I don't know," he said honestly. "But I chose you, Emilia. You're my wife now." I nodded, trying to hold back the tears. "I understand," I said, but my heart was breaking. I couldn't sleep that night. My head was full of thoughts about Taylor and Lila. I felt like there was so much I didn't know. I couldn't fall asleep. My head was full of stuff about Taylor and that other girl. Then I remembered what Jane said about a secret room. I really wanted to know what was in there. I got up from my bed and walked really quietly. I found the place Jane talked about. My heart was beating superfast. I took a slow breath and opened the door. It was dark inside and I couldn't see anything. I waited a little, and then I saw someone sitting in the corner. I couldn't believe my eyes. Sitting there was a woman. Her face was super pale and looked exhausted. "Who are you?" I said quietly, my voice shaking a little. I was scared. The woman looked up at me and I almost fell over. It was Lila! You know, the girl Taylor used to love. Lila looked so scared. Her eyes were big and wide. Before I could say anything else, the door burst open. It was Taylor! He looked really mad and surprised. "What are you doing here?!" he shouted at me and Lila. Lila jumped up and looked really scared. I was so shocked. I didn't know what to do. It felt like everything was crazy. Why was Lila there? Why was Taylor so mad? So many questions, no answers. Taylor stormed into the room and grabbed Lila's arm. "Come on," he said, his voice low and scary. Lila looked like she wanted to cry. I was so confused. What was going on? I didn't understand anything. Taylor pulled Lila out of the room and slammed the door shut. I was alone in the dark room. My heart was beating really fast. I didn't know what to do next. I was scared and confused. What was going to happen now?
