As Yun Wan stepped closer, that faint, distinctive fragrance drifted straight into Xiyuelis’s nostrils.
It was not strong, yet unbearably pure. The moment she drew near, it clung to his senses, stirring the restless urge deep within his heart to surface once more.
He lowered his gaze and stared quietly at the small figure before him.
Yun Wan kept her head bowed the entire time, not daring to lift her eyes to look at him.
He was towering, tall and slender. Standing before him, she was completely swallowed by his shadow. She could not even meet his gaze. To make out his face, she would have to crane her neck painfully upward, and now, paralyzed by fear, she did not dare move her neck at all.
She only stared at her own toes. Her long eyelashes fluttered constantly, and her tiny body trembled slightly, like a helpless little animal brought before a predator.
No — a vampire.
Watching the huddled girl who dared not even raise her head, a faint dark crimson flickered in Xiyuelis’s eyes.
Suddenly he bent forward, leaning down low.
The next instant, she felt a wisp of cool breath brush across the side of her neck, carrying his unique cold scent. Xiyuelis tilted his head, his nose drawing near her slender neck, and slowly, silently inhaled the faint, peculiar aroma emanating from her.
It was not the allure of blood. It was a clean, tickling scent seeping out from her warm skin, winding its way into his lungs.
Yun Wan stiffened like a stone. A numb tingle spread across her neck, and she was so terrified she could barely breathe, yet she did not dare move an inch.
She had no idea what he was doing. All she knew was — this vampire was smelling her.
So she really was going to die. He was going to devour her, drain every drop of her blood.
Fear engulfed her like a tidal wave. Her already frayed emotions snapped completely.
Her nose stung, and her eyes reddened at once. Tears spilled uncontrollably, large and hot, dropping onto the floor.
She did not dare sob aloud. She bit her lips hard, her shoulders heaving with quiet shudders, muffled whimpers trapped deep in her throat, soft and pitiful.
Xiyuelis caught the faint, suppressed whimper beside his ear.
He froze, then straightened slowly.
He merely craved her special scent; he had no intention of eating her yet.
Did this foolish female truly think he was going to devour her?
He looked at her tear‑swollen eyes and trembling frame. His brows drew together, a flicker of impatience rising in him. He loathed weeping, and he hated this troublesome barrier of language that made everything impossible to explain.
Yun Wan stood rooted to the spot, still shedding tears, her shoulders jerking, consumed by the terror that her end was near.
He stood upright and spoke coldly. “Come here.”
At his command, a humanoid robot stepped in from the corner and stood respectfully at attention.
Yet the sharp pain she had expected never came.
Instead, she heard Xiyuelis utter words she could not understand. In the next second, another humanoid robot glided silently through the door and stood respectfully beside the first.
Yun Wan froze. Tears still glistened on her cheeks as she lifted her eyes in confusion toward the robot.
Why… another one?
A few robots had escorted her to bathe earlier. Now two more had appeared out of nowhere. What were they going to do? Fear warred with a flicker of curiosity. Her wet almond eyes blinked, darting between the robots and Xiyuelis. She was so frightened and bewildered that she momentarily forgot to cry.
Xiyuelis gave a quick order in English.
“Activate real‑time translation, connect to her language.”
The robot emitted a soft electronic tone.
【Real‑time translation system activated.】
Only then did he turn back to Yun Wan, who was still weeping, half out of her wits with terror.
Xiyuelis frowned, his voice laced with impatience as he spoke low. “Stop crying. I dislike the sound of weeping.”
Immediately, the robot translated every word clearly into her native Mandarin.
Yun Wan jolted.
This time, she understood every single syllable perfectly.
It was her mother tongue.
Tears still clung to her eyelashes. She froze, staring dumbfounded at the robot, then lifted her head toward Xiyuelis, stunned and bewildered, her sobs dying away without her noticing.
It dawned on her at once.
This robot could translate his words in real time. A wave of shock washed over her, alongside a small measure of relief. Tears still dampened her cheeks as she whispered timidly. “…I’m sorry.”
The moment she finished speaking, the robot converted her words into his foreign tongue and relayed them to Xiyuelis.
Xiyuelis stared at her red‑rimmed eyes. His voice turned colder, devoid of any warmth. “If you dare cry again, I will eat you right now.”
The robot repeated the threat word‑for‑word to Yun Wan.
A shudder ran through her whole body. She held her breath in terror. The tears she had barely held back were forced down. She did not dare sob even a little, only bit her lips hard, wide wet eyes fixed on him, motionless.
Silence fell heavy over the room.
She dared not make the slightest sound, terrified that she would be devoured by the vampire before her.
Watching her instantly docile state, Xiyuelis’s brows relaxed slightly, and the icy aura around him softened a little.
His gaze drifted down to her slender neck. That intoxicating faint fragrance still drifted toward him, tightening his throat. He did not draw nearer, but studied her with a low, possessive stare. This human female, with her strange scent, her timidity and purity — she belonged to him now.
He lifted his eyes toward the bed and gave a flat order. “Lie down on the bed.”
Yun Wan shuddered again, her heart lurching.
Lie down… what did he intend to do?
She dared not resist or ask questions. She kept her head down and shuffled backward toward the bed, stiffly sitting upon its edge. Her eyes remained fixed on him, brimming with helplessness and dread.
She had barely settled on the bed when Xiyuelis stepped toward it.
Panic surged through her. She shrank backward until her back hit the headboard, with nowhere left to retreat.
In the next moment, Xiyuelis lay down on the other side of the bed.
His movements were casual and natural. The black casual clothing accentuated his long, elegant figure. His silver hair was slightly tousled, yet he still radiated an intimidating presence.
The huge bed separated them by a wide gap, yet the air grew taut with tension.
Yun Wan froze like stone, not daring to move, breathing as lightly as she could.
He… he had actually lain down too.
Lying on the outer side, Xiyuelis turned his head to look at Yun Wan, who had squeezed herself into the far corner, almost pressing into the mattress. His thin lips parted, his tone unyielding.
“Move closer to me.”
The robot delivered the translation, each word hammering against Yun Wan’s frayed nerves.
She bit her lower lip, eyes wide with terror as she stared at him.
Closer… even closer?
He lay there, silver hair spread across the soft pillow, his crimson eyes half‑lidded in the warm lamplight. Though he made no aggressive move, she trembled just to breathe.
Yet she dared not refuse. The warning If you cry again, I’ll eat you still echoed in her ears. Survival instinct left no room for hesitation.
Stiff as a board, Yun Wan inched slowly toward him, moving like a snail. With every inch she shifted, her heart hammered harder. She stopped at a cautious distance, head bowed, every muscle tensed, her fingertips trembling.
Before Yun Wan could stay still any longer, Xiyuelis suddenly reached out and pulled her firmly into his arms.
His grip was not brutal, yet utterly domineering, leaving her no chance to struggle.
Yun Wan let out a small gasp as she crashed against his cool chest, trapped securely within his embrace, completely unable to move.
Her mind went blank.
Xiyuelis bent his head, pressing his cheek close to her warm, slender neck, breathing in deeply that addictive faint scent. His breath brushed her skin, carrying his distinctive coldness.
Held fast in his arms, she dared not squirm. A tingling sensation ran up her neck, her heart pounding so hard it felt ready to burst from her chest. She went limp in his hold, too scared to draw a deep breath, letting him hold and smell her. Tears welled in her eyes again, but she bit her lips tight, not letting a single whimper escape.
Buried against her neck, Xiyuelis’s nose rested against her soft, warm skin. That delicate, alluring fragrance seemed to seep into his very bones.
He parted his lips, and his tongue brushed lightly, fleetingly across the tender skin of her neck.
Just one soft touch.
Yun Wan jolted as if struck by an electric shock, her whole body shuddering, a small gasp slipping out.
He… he had licked her. Was he going to bite down any second now?
The sharp bite she had expected never came.
Xiyuelis merely savored her softness and that calming aroma, making no further move. He tightened his arms, holding her more securely, his chin resting gently atop her hair. The frigid pressure around him faded away, replaced by quiet, lazy calm.
Slowly it dawned on her.
He really was just holding her. He had no intention of eating her.
Xiyuelis closed his eyes, his long lashes falling, his beauty almost unreal.
The human in his arms was soft and warm. That faint scent soothed the millennia‑old loneliness and restlessness within him.
A strange, never‑before‑felt emotion stirred faintly in his chest.
This was the first time he had ever held a woman.
Human bodies were so soft, so light, like a perfectly warm cloud pressed against his cold frame. Simply holding her felt unexpectedly pleasant.
It was surprisingly easy to fall asleep like this.
He stopped moving, holding her still, and drifted off into light slumber.
Vampires could actually sleep, she thought in wonder.
Cuddled within his cool yet steady embrace, Yun Wan held her breath. Only when she heard his steady breathing did she dare relax a little, though she still did not dare stir.
Terror and confusion tangled inside her. Exhaustion and fear weighed heavily on her, and she struggled to stay awake.
After what felt like an eternity, her eyelids grew heavy. She could no longer hold on, and drifted off to sleep.
