Secret beneath the throne

Nobody spoke after Liora’s confession. The tension inside the ruined room became suffocating. Lucien’s red eyes remained fixed on her, unreadable now for the first time since he arrived. Even Kael looked unsettled. Finally, Nyra broke the silence. “This is exactly why she’s dangerous.” Liora looked up sharply. “I didn’t ask to see those visions.” “But you did,” Nyra snapped. “And now we know the prophecy is unfolding.” “What prophecy?” Liora demanded. Kael exhaled slowly, clearly irritated. “Enough.” His voice instantly silenced the room. He turned toward Elias. “Take everyone outside.” Nyra frowned. “Kael” “That wasn’t a suggestion.” Reluctantly, the others obeyed. Lucien lingered near the doorway, his gaze lingering on Liora before he finally smirked faintly. “We’ll continue this conversation later, Silver Luna.” Then he disappeared into the hallway. The doors shut behind him. At last, only Kael and Liora remained. The mansion had grown strangely quiet now, though distant sounds of warriors repairing the damaged territory echoed outside. Liora pulled away from Kael slowly. “What aren’t you telling me?” Kael stayed silent for several seconds. Then he walked toward the broken window overlooking the moonlit territory below. “The Silver Luna wasn’t just a ruler,” he said quietly. “She was the strongest bloodline ever created.” Liora crossed her arms tightly. “Created by who?” “No one knows.” The moonlight cast shadows across his face, making him look colder somehow. “Some legends say the Moon Goddess herself chose the first Silver Luna centuries ago to keep balance between the packs.” “And the others?” “They believed the Silver Luna wanted control.” Liora glanced at the glowing mark on her wrist. “And what do you believe?” Kael looked at her then. His gray eyes held something dangerous beneath them. “I believe power changes people.” The answer unsettled her more than she expected. Liora walked farther into the room, trying to steady her breathing. “Those visions… they felt real.” Kael’s expression hardened slightly. “The Silver Luna possesses memory inheritance.” “What does that mean?” “You don’t just carry the bloodline,” he explained. “You carry fragments of every Silver Luna before you.” Liora stared at him. “That’s impossible.” “So are werewolves,” Kael replied calmly. Fair point. Liora sat down slowly on the edge of a damaged couch, exhaustion finally crashing into her body. Everything felt overwhelming. Yesterday she had been normal. Now she apparently carried ancient memories and supernatural power strong enough to start wars. Her chest tightened. “What if Nyra’s right?” she whispered. Kael frowned slightly. “About what?” “What if I really am dangerous?” For a moment, Kael said nothing. Then he walked toward her slowly. “You are dangerous,” he said honestly. Liora looked away immediately. But then his voice softened slightly. “That doesn’t mean you’re evil.” The words caught her off guard. Before she could answer, Kael crouched in front of her and gently took her wrist. The silver mark glowed faintly beneath his fingers. “This mark only appears when the Silver Luna fully awakens.” Liora swallowed nervously. “And what happens now?” Kael’s jaw tightened. “Now every Alpha in the territories will either try to claim you… or kill you before someone else does.” The bluntness of his answer made her stomach drop. “Claim me?” she repeated. Kael’s gaze darkened. “The Silver Luna can strengthen an entire bloodline. Any pack bonded to her becomes nearly impossible to defeat.” Liora immediately pulled her hand away. “So I’m basically a weapon.” “No.” Kael’s response came too quickly. The intensity in his voice surprised both of them. “You’re more than that.” A strange silence settled between them. Liora suddenly became very aware of how close he was. The moonlight reflected faintly in his gray eyes while cuts across his chest slowly healed before her eyes. It was unreal. Everything about him was unreal. Yet for some reason, she no longer felt afraid of him. That realization scared her most. Suddenly, Kael’s expression shifted. He stood instantly, turning toward the door. “What is it?” Liora asked. He didn’t answer immediately. Then distant shouting echoed outside. Nyra burst into the room moments later. “Kael,” she said urgently, “we found one of the spies.” Kael’s face darkened. “Alive?” “Barely.” Liora stood up slowly. “Spy?” Nyra nodded grimly. “Someone inside the Nightfang territory has been feeding information to the Council.” Kael’s eyes became deadly cold. “Bring them to the dungeon.” Nyra hesitated. “There’s something else.” Kael looked irritated already. “What now?” Nyra glanced toward Liora uneasily. “The spy kept repeating the same thing before collapsing.” A bad feeling settled in Liora’s chest. Kael noticed it too. “What did they say?” Nyra’s expression tightened. “They said the Silver Luna isn’t the only one who awakened.”
