Are you my mate?

Chapter 7 The Ball

We got to Liz and all the girls were already getting ready. We were given dresses as soon as we walked in by another omega and went to a corner to dress.

"This dress is so pretty.... we are going to look so hot!"

"We are not supposed to look hot, Alissa. There's something not right here. How can we meet omegas that look so great like the others? We are basically maids here”.

"Oh shush. Let's just dress and enjoy the night, okay? I heard that the Alphas are already here. They will be in the ballroom soon" says Alissa, while getting dressed. The ballroom was in the pack house. That's how big his place is. It's really a castle.

I stripped what I had on and put on the dress given to me. I see that we are all wearing black dresses that are a bit of a tight fit and go just above my knees. I didn't have the best body, but you could see my curves in the dress.

Alissa and I got each other's hair done with the supplies that Liz gave us. Liz left a while ago just after we came in, but she came back now and stood at the door.

Alissa and I were done already. I looked at myself in the mirror and could not believe that I looked like that. To look and feel beautiful, even if it was just for one night. I know something is up tonight, so there is no way we will get this opportunity again. Just need to find out what it is though.

I got pulled from my thoughts when Liz cleared her thoughts and clapped her hands together to get our attention. Alissa and I had just finished putting our black heels on as well.

"As you all know or might have heard, the Alphas and betas of the neighboring packs, which don't have a Luna yet, are coming to visit for dinner. Or should I say, they are already here" she whispered with a smile, and went across the room. Girls blush as well. Typical girls are girls. Swooning over a mere Alpha. I know they are Alphas, but still. I don't care much about boys or even Alphas. I know that I don't or might never have a destined mate, so I'll be okay on my own.

"Please come down to the event girls. You can enjoy yourself for one night", Liz says with a smile, meaning I could see she really meant it. She's always been great to us.

She was about to leave but stopped in her tracks. "Oh, and speaking of the event, something special will happen if the Alphas find their mates here. The lucky girls will have a choice to take an omega with them to the Alphas pack. You will tend to the next Luna in that pack" says Liz. I can see the doubt and sadness in her eyes about sending us away, but if that's what must happen, it must.

"I wouldn't mind going if someone actually chose me" says Alissa. I wondered why she would actually go, but I didn't think too much about it.

"Yes and I doubt anyone will pick me" I said while laughing with Alissa. I definitely don't want to go to another pack. I like helping, but I will lose my house and will be forced to live in that Alphas pack house with the next Luna.

All of us made our way to the ballroom. Everyone looks beautiful in their dresses. Some are unmated, while you can see mated pairs on the dance floor. The ballroom was really huge.

All events are kept in this space. Alissa and I stood on one side while looking at the crowd. Then Alissa bumped my left arm, making me look to my left.

"Look at the Alphas" she says. I looked and god did I wish I hadn't. How are they also hot and unmated, nonetheless? Some had black hair, while others had brown and blond hair. Some had beards while others barely had. You could tell who was young and the ones that might be in their late 20s. Weird that they haven't found their mates yet. So that's surely why they are visiting all the packs this way. They might all be really lonely without their mates. Somehow, I feel how they might be feeling. I just shrug it off though. I could never have that. Not even an Alpha. Who am I kidding?

As I looked away from the Alphas, I saw one of them standing on his own, with someone who seemed to be his beta by his side. My eyes were suddenly just drawn to him, but I don't know why. I suddenly had the feeling of something in my heart. Picking at it to wake it up somehow. 'Rose it's m....' Ana said, then went back to sleep. She was still weak, so I could not hear what she was about to say. I sense crap and I listen when she is not with me. I'm almost just a mere human without her. I wish I could have known what could have woken her up so suddenly when she was too weak to wake up.

'Ana? Are you there? What were you about to say?' I tried to connect with her, but she dozed off. Guess I'll hear from her in the morning or later tonight. I'm not sure how long she'll be like this though. Whatever that witch did was really strong. It must be something to do with wiping my memory so that I cannot remember what she said.

While I was still drawn to look at the Alpha standing there, I could not help but have dreamy eyes. His big build with muscles. I can see that he has a tattoo on the side of his neck going down. I cannot see his arms as they are covered in a tight-fit blue suit that is showing all the right places, but I can see a tattoo coming down his left hand. So, it must be one that goes all the way up his arm to his neck.

Goddess, what are you allowing me to think? I don't swoon over guys. What is happening to me?

I got myself out of my dreamy thoughts when I saw Olivia coming up to the Alpha. The beta put his hand out to stop her, but I saw the Alpha lifting his to his beta while shaking his head in a "yes" to let her pass. She has a drink in her hand. I could not hold my surprise. "Oh no, no, no, it's the blue liquid" I told myself.

Can he not notice why it's blue when all the other drinks here are clearly a different color? He must definitely not think anything of it since she luckily had the same one in her hands. b***h! She must have put something else in hers. I feel so bad about this happening.

Hopefully they are mates. That's why he let her get so close. Somehow, I feel weird saying that and a sense of jealousy. I don't get jealous. It must be the way I feel guilty about what she's about to do and jealous that he'll never get to find his true mate, if it turns out she isn't really his mate.

He was about to drink the blue liquid, so I just looked away. Feeling sad somehow. "There's no other way, Rose," I tell myself with a tear that slides out. Why the hell am I crying? Do I feel so bad for him? Someone I don't even know? "Pull yourself together, Rose and chill!" I scolded myself. It's often been happening today that I have to scold myself for my thoughts.

"Hey, is everything alright? Why are you crying?" Asked Alissa while she kept both of her hands on either side of my arms while looking up into my eyes.

"Oh! It must just be the bright lights in this ball and seeing so many people. I'm never around so many people. It makes me overwhelmed". I lied. I haven't been around so many people before, so I did lie, but I think it might be true, since there is no other explanation of why the hell I'm crying."

"Oh well, if it helps, I feel the same way. This is my first time at a ball event with a lot of people", she smiled at me. I don't know what came over me, but I leaned in and gave her a tight hug. She is really trying to be my friend. She's so nice to me.

"Like I said, Rose, I don't swing that way, I swing all the way to the boys. I don't want to hurt you though" she says while I feel her smiling on my neck and holding me tightly too. I know she's just joking. I like her personality. I need that in my life right now.

We let go of each other and enjoyed the event. People were dancing and eating. I tried to look for the Alpha that Olivia was with, and I saw them standing near our pack, Alpha and Luna. Oh no! I see them holding each other and have dreamy eyes. "So that's it then" I say while another tear wants to fall.

"What's it, Rose?" asked Alissa. I didn't know that I had said that out loud. My thoughts are always just my thoughts. Since when do I say things aloud about what I'm thinking?

"Sorry...I mean that's it then, the party is almost over. We won't be wearing something like this again or feel so special". I cover myself up with a lie, or is it? I think I would rather believe that than try to look for the reason why I even said that. It must also be the guilt of the Alpha Damon finding a mate that's not actually his mate.

I heard the pack Alpha clinking his glass with a fork to get our attention. He must surely just be giving a speech to thank all the Alphas for being here tonight.

"I know this has been a lovely evening so far, and you don't want to hear me talking or giving a speech, but I just want to say thank you to the Alphas of the neighboring packs for coming to my pack in the search of your future Luna" he said while everyone clapped their hands, so I did as well.

This is just a magical moment when they finally find their Luna. Well, not for Damon, I feel guilty again. Oh crap! I'm in my thoughts again, got to listen to the Alpha.

"Some of the Alphas have found their Luna's!" He says out loud with the biggest smile.

Everyone screamed in Union and clapped at that announcement.

"Luckily, 3 Alphas have their Luna's, so they will be leaving in the morning to go back to their packs, while the other Alphas will continue their journey to the other packs in search of their own Luna", he spoke with power and gestured to a few members of the crowd with a nod.

"As the future Luna'' of their Alpha mates pack, she has a choice to take on a member of our pack with her. Because she will need help settling in with someone she knows at first, she can take an omega of her choosing. Please note that this omega won't always have to stay there. She will just take the ride with the future Luna and help her with settling in for the Luna position. Once she is made the Luna, that omega is welcome to come back to our pack or stay if she wishes”.

Gasps but also excitement is heard from the other omega girls. Alissa is also jumping for joy next to me and holding me a little too tight because of how excited she is.

"Olivia, since you are mated to the most powerful Alpha of all, you get to choose your omega that will accompany you" gestured the Alpha from her to the crowd with his hand.

"Of course, Alpha" she says and walks up to the Alpha.

I see Damon walking with her as she stands straight up looking at us. I clicked my eyes on Damon and felt a pull towards him. I don't know why. That normally means one thing, but that's impossible. I cannot have a mate, not even with the most powerful Alpha.

Maybe I'm just drawn to him by how handsome he is. Yes that's it! It must be that. Even though I never worried about looks before. I sometimes do have dreamy eyes when I see a hot guy, but those are just my thoughts. Every girl does that, I assume.

"The one that will be going with me is Rose" says Olivia, pulling me from my thoughts.

I choked on my saliva and coughed with my hands in front of my mouth.

"No, no, no, this can't be. Damn you Olivia! I did my part to get you the potion. Now you want to drag me with you to the end if this does not go as planned and we both get killed. I should have known that she would choose me when I heard that an omega would go with a Luna, but I thought she'd been so rude to me all this time, that she wouldn't. I know why she chose me. All because I helped her, and now I'm going to hell with her.
