Chapter 6

1551 Words
Derek was over Gina and didn't have any interest whatsoever in spending the weekend with her however, he had no choice, Derek wanted his private life where he would be free to reminisce about Anastasia, she is the perfect woman for him and he can't get over her. " That was a beautiful wedding, I can't wait to have something that beautiful with you, " Gina said on the car ride to Derek's place but he ignored her as usual. " Did you even hear anything I said, Derek? You didn't say anything " Gina said again wondering if Derek was paying any attention, but his mind was not with her, rather his mind was with Anastasia wondering what she was doing. " Derek " Gina shouted which got his attention this time. " Is there a specific reason you are screaming my name " Derek enquired lividly with the unwelcomed distraction. " I have been talking to you, but your mind wasn't here " Gina stated in a small voice. " Have you thought about the fact that I might not be a tad bit interested in having a conversation with you " What Derek said was hurtful but he didn't care, he just wanted to get home and get out of the car, the car was starting to feel like a shoebox for him. Gina felt abysmal about what Derek said which made her quiet in the remaining car ride till they got to their destination. " Oh no you can't sleep here " Derek stated when Gina entered his bedroom trying to get comfortable, Gina is no stranger to Derek's bedroom she has slept over many times. " But this is where I usually sleep " Gina countered " Yes but not tonight or this weekend, I need my space " he stated categorically " Okay fine, where do I sleep " " Use any of the guest rooms, " Derek said before shutting the bedroom door in her face. He plopped on the bed and sighed with relief as he was finally in his safe space, he brought out Anastasia's necklace, like always he was looking at the intricate designs. Derek loves looking at it every night and sleeping in bed with it, he has memorized every detail on the necklace hoping to use it to find its owner but the search has been futile so far. As always, Derek was holding up the sterling silver butterfly pendant necklace with a silver crystal choker. The butterflies are a tad bit bigger than each other. But Derek has perused them long enough that he now knows their actual sizes, the vintage layered crystal butterfly is 0.8cm and the bigger butterfly pendant is 1.2cm, Derek knows every detail, from the sizes and hue to the type of chain and length. He treasures it like it's his own. But the actual reason he loves and carries it about is because that's the only thing of her he had to hold on to as memorabilia after she enigmatically vanished from his hotel room the next morning. When Derek woke up that morning alone in his hotel room, he was surprised to see that her side of the bed was empty and he was hoping Anastasia was in the bathroom, Derek checked and saw that it was void too, he was so disappointed but he felt completely stupid when he realized he has no name or even her contact. " What are you doing Gina " Derek asked when he got downstairs the next morning. " Making breakfast, your favorite," Gina said with a cheeky smile " Which is ?" He asked curiously " Toast and egg," she said poisely, Derek wanted to laugh so bad but he pretended and sat on the kitchen island, toast and egg wasn't his favorite breakfast but he didn't say anything... It was too early to make her feel bad. " How was your night " he asked changing the topic " It was okay but I'm certain it would have been peachy by your side, snuggling and cuddling together or even having steamy s*x," Gina said flirtatiously. All she said only made Derek think of his one-night stand with Anastasia, s*x with Gina was good but it can't be compared with what he had with Anastasia, that was the true epitome of steamy s*x, it was an unruly night that he will give anything to have again. " Well I was very knackered and I needed some space," Derek said trying not to be a wet blanket. " It's fine today another day, I am here for the weekend after all, " Gina said as she wiggled her brows seductively. Gina served Derek's breakfast and he honestly wanted to reject it but he didn't want to seem mean when he saw she was looking at him expectantly. The toast was burnt and when they had a taste of the egg it was bland but he smiled and gave her a thumbs up which made her smile. Gina sat beside him and they both ate in silence even though Derek would have preferred not to eat. As he was having his breakfast his mind drifted to Anastasia again and he wondered if she was up and what she might be doing at the moment, maybe having breakfast he thought as he shoved some burnt toast in his mouth. The first thing Anastasia did the next morning when she woke up was to pick up the gift she got from her mother. She was so desperate to know the content, she had missed her mum so much and any gift from her was going to be worth more than gold. When Anastasia opened the box, it contained a hard-cover book. The book was a handwritten cookbook in her mother's handwriting. Anastasia was very psyched, she had missed her mother's cooking so much... His mother has always been a stellar cook and she thought she would never get to eat anything remotely close to what she eats from her mother. But with Anastasia holding her mother's recipes, she can start recreating all her mother's favorite dishes, Anastasia was smiling when abruptly there was a knock on her door. " Come on, " Anastasia said in a mundane way " Good morning miss, I am Stella the housekeeper," she said respectfully. " Oh Stella, nice to meet you, you can call me Anastasia, no need for the formalities Anastasia said with a smile. " Oh no miss I can't do that, I can lose my job for that, "Stella said trying to make Anastasia know that it's not allowed and her boss who happened to be Jared won't tolerate it. " Okay that's fine, I wouldn't want you to lose your job, so tell me what can I help you with " Anastasia asked with a smile. " I wanted to inform you that breakfast is ready and I wanted to know if you need me to help you pack ." " You mean unpack ?" Anastasia asked, lost at his point. " Your honeymoon miss, Mr. Jared said you both are leaving by 3 pm" " Oh okay I almost forgot, " Anastasia said trying to play along and act neutral like she was aware, but truthfully she wasn't informed of any honeymoon " Don't fret Stella, I can handle the unpacking, I will be downstairs soon for breakfast " Anastasia notified with a smile. " Okay miss," Stella said as she shut the door. Anastasia was infuriated to hear that she was going for a honeymoon from the housekeeper, that's a flippant thing for Jared to do... She got up from the bed and changed into something more fitting for the day before storming out of her room in search of Jared. " Honeymoon? Who told you I want to be on a trip with you, especially a honeymoon trip ?" Anastasia asked the moment she badged into Jared's room, Jared looked up from his laptop to see the furious look on her face then continued what he was doing. " I am talking to you Jared, is a honeymoon trip really necessary? " Anastasia asked again while moving closer to him. " Yes it is, honeymoon is mandatory after a wedding else it will look weird, I don't want to be in the same space with you either, " Jared said while focusing on the laptop and not sparing her a glance. " Well next time do well to inform me instead of making me find out through the housekeeper and looking stupid " she stated " Why is that, what if I don't want to address you directly " he asked nonchalantly " Well, you don't have a choice cause the staff will notice we are not in love as we made it look and it won't be difficult for them to find out that this marriage is a sham... If they do then be rest assured that the news will spread like wildfire... Not that I mind, in fact, I will love it, that way I will be able to get out of this. " Anastasia said as she left Jared's room without waiting for his response whilst he stared at her retreating figure.
