Sabrina runs downstairs and grabs her lunch box from the kitchen counter.
"Bye, mom. See you after school!" Sabrina says with a cheerful voice.
"Have a nice first day at your new school!" Sabrina's mother replies with a smile.
"I will!" replies Sabrina as she runs out the door.
As Sabrina runs through the streets, she avoids using her vampire speed in public.
"My name is Sabrina Abrams. I live in a small town called Fairfield with my family. I’m seventeen years old. I’m five foot five and have a hell of a good-looking body, if I say so myself. I have short, wavy brunette hair and a beauty mark in the corner of my right eye. As a little girl, my family didn’t raise me like most children. My biological father abandoned me when I was five years old. It was right after my biological mom died in a car accident. My dad took me to a small orphanage and told the woman in charge to care for me. At the time, I didn't understand why my dad would abandon me, but I never once blamed him for it. At least, I think I haven’t. I wish I could have known what my dad would have been like if I was still his daughter. About two years later, after I came to the orphanage, a kind young boy came to live there. He was the kindest person I had ever met. Whenever the older children at the orphanage picked on me, he was always there to help me. Before meeting this boy, I wouldn't talk to any other children at the orphanage. I was shy and didn't know how to make friends. Then, a small family took the boy and me in as foster kids. We were living there for a few months when I realized that the man and woman were abusive. The man and woman would hit me until the point where I bled. After the beatings, the boy would always come to my rescue and comfort me while I cried myself to sleep." Sabrina says in her thoughts as she explains her past in a flashback.
"All the boy ever did was protect me. But he never spoke. The only time he talked was when he told me his name. He said his name was Jayden. Every night, Jayden would silently smile at me and pat my head to reassure me that everything would be alright. I’ve always wondered why Jayden was brought to the orphanage. Even though Jayden smiled gently at me, his eyes were filled with despair. A year later, Jayden was adopted and I was left behind. At the time, I didn't understand what was happening. I didn't want Jayden to leave. I was scared of what my foster parents would do to me once Jayden left with his new family. What surprised me was the words Jayden said to me the day he left. He had a secret. He was a vampire. When Jayden told me about him being a vampire, I was surprisingly not scared of him. How could I fear him when he means so much to me? But that meant I was in danger.” Sabrina continues.
“Jayden told me that his Master forced him to infiltrate the orphanage to find me. He wanted Jayden to get close to me and gain my trust. Jayden never wanted to deceive me but couldn’t disobey his Master. The words that Jayden left behind that day are something I will never forget. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared of the fact that Jayden’s Master is after my life. But I certainly wasn’t scared of Jayden. I still don’t know why Jayden told me his secret about being a vampire. I may never know. The words that he spoke were, ‘I love you, Sabrina. But in this cruel world, a love like this is not meant to be. Once I am gone, don’t try to find me. If you do, I will never be able to forgive myself.’ Even though I was seven years old, I knew what those meant. It meant that Jayden didn’t want me to find him. Those words broke my heart. At the time, I didn’t realize how broken Jayden was. I wanted to do something for Jayden, but I didn’t know what. Then, a thought hit me. I could become a vampire. I looked Jayden in the eyes and told him that I wanted him to turn me into a vampire. He immediately refused. I kept asking over and over again, and each time, Jayden refused to turn me into a vampire. He even threatened to erase my memories of him. I got angry and slapped him across the face. Through my tears, I told Jayden that even if he hated me for it, I would still ask to become a vampire. Jayden suddenly broke down crying and pulled me into his arms. He covered my mouth to keep me from screaming and bit me on the neck. I screamed in pain for what felt like an eternity. I was starting to black out when Jayden pulled away from my neck and fed me his blood after he bit his own wrist. After the transition was complete, I woke up in one of the orphanage bedrooms, and a letter from Jayden was left on my pillow. A few days later, after my transition, I found a second letter addressed to the orphanage's caretaker. She took me back from my abusive foster parents. It turned out the foster parents were traffickers sent by their clients to kidnap children and sell them as slaves to other countries. I know that deep down, I hurt Jayden deeply." Sabrina says in her thoughts as she stops in front of her new school.
There are four main buildings: the elementary school, the middle school, the high school, and the college. Sabrina looks ahead at her new school. She holds out her right hand and looks at the antique ring on her finger. Sabrina sadly smiles at the ring. Memories of Jayden flood her mind.
"I’m sorry, Jayden. I hope one day you can forgive me.” Sabrina says as she plasters a fake smile on her face.
Not long after Sabrina became a vampire, she started secretly stealing blood bags from the local hospital to survive until a year had passed. It was the only thing Sabrina could do since she didn't want to kill anyone or even turn people. The Abrams family eventually adopted Sabrina. No one else knows that Sabrina is a vampire except for one person. Sabrina has always believed that someday, she’ll find Jayden and tell him what she should've said on the day he left. Though, she hasn’t exactly told her older brothers that she is a vampire. It was hard, but throughout these past nine years, Sabrina, with the help of a friend, was able to control her thirst for human blood. However, at times, she still has difficulty controlling her thirst. Sabrina started feeding on animals after her friend taught her how to hunt. That’s how Sabrina has been surviving until now. Of course, she still steals blood from the clinics and hospitals every once in a while. Sabrina eventually walks up to the school building and enters through the gate.
