Sabrina walks to her bedroom, sets her book bag on her desk chair and heads straight to her bathroom. She turns on the hot water in the tub, removes her clothes, and grabs a few towels from the utility closet. Sabrina grabs her favorite rose and lily-scented bubble bath soap and pours it into the water. Bubbles start to form and Sabrina slips into the tub. Once in the tub, Sabrina turns off the water and leans back. Her tense body begins to relax. Sabrina thinks back to earlier today and sighs.
“This was the first time I’ve cried in front of anyone except for Brett. I want to see Jayden, but I’m scared. All I’ve done until now is live a double life. A life as Sabrina Abrams, the orphan adopted after her father abandoned her. And life as a vampire. A being that drinks human blood has god-like speed and strength and has a superhuman sense of smell and hearing. Hahaha! To think I could have a chance at having a happy life. Being a vampire is unbearable.” says Sabrina as tears of sadness overwhelm her.
After Sabrina finishes her bath, she changes into her pajamas and opens her bedroom door to enter the kitchen. But as she opens her bedroom door, she sees both of her big brothers standing there with questioning expressions, which angers her.
“What do you want, Leo, Jesse?” Sabrina asks in an annoyed tone.
Jesse flicks Sabrina’s forehead.
“Ow! What was that for?” Sabrina asks as she raises her voice and pouts.
“We know when our little sister is hiding her true feelings about something. Big brothers are supposed to look out for their little brothers and sisters even if they don’t want them to,” replies Jesse as he gently smiles at Sabrina. Leo also smiles.
Sabrina sighs in defeat.
“I’ve just been thinking about the past. Some old memories from when I was at the orphanage came flooding back. They’re not exactly happy memories. I just want to be left alone.” says Sabrina.
“We know. We just wanted to let you know that we’re here if you want to talk,” replies Leo with an understanding smile.
“We’re gonna go ahead and turn in for the night. Don’t stay up too late,” says Jesse as he and Leo enter their bedrooms for the night.
Sabrina heads to the kitchen, grabs the plate of food her mom left in the microwave, and heads back to her bedroom to start her homework. Sabrina eventually finishes her homework. She even finishes the drawing of Turaya. Sabrina puts her homework back into her book bag and picks a book from her bookshelf. The book she picks out is about legends of nymphs and faes. Sabrina hops in bed and starts reading. Throughout the night, Sabrina reads until dawn breaks. Sabrina gets out of bed and walks over to her mini fridge. She opens it and takes out a blood bag. She tears off the top and chugs the blood down. But Sabrina is worried about her blood supply. After drinking the blood bag just now, she only has three left. That means only one more day of blood. She hopes that she doesn’t go on a crazy hunger frenzy. Sabrina disposes of the blood bag and starts getting ready for the day.
Sabrina takes a quick shower and changes into a pair of ripped blue jean capris and a burgundy crop top. She ties her hair in a French braid and puts on a pair of plaid chucks. Sabrina then goes back into the bathroom and brushes her teeth. Afterward, she walks back into her bedroom and grabs her book bag. Sabrina opens her door and walks into the dining room to see her brothers Jesse and Leo setting breakfast on the table.
“Good morning, Sabrina,” Jesse says with a cheery smile.
“Morning, bro,” replies Sabrina as she fake yawns.
“Come on and sit down before Leo devours all the food,” replies Jesse as he jokes around.
“Hey! A growing boy has to eat a lot,” replies Leo as he pouts.
Sabrina starts laughing as she sits down in one of the chairs. Jesse and Leo also sit down and the three of them start eating. After breakfast, Sabrina heads to school and is greeted by her new friends at the school gate.
“Morning, Sabrina.” both Miguel and Kason say in unison.
“Morning, boys,” replies Sabrina as she chuckles.
“How are you feeling?” Kason asks.
“I’m sorry you guys had to see me like that yesterday. Some old memories came flooding back. Memories I’d rather forget. Thank you for keeping me company while I was crying. That meant a lot to me,” replies Sabrina as she apologizes for yesterday.
“No worries. That’s what friends are for. Anyway, let’s get to homeroom before the bell rings.” Miguel says as he winks at Sabrina.
Sabrina, Miguel, and Kason walk into the school building and head for their homeroom classes. Both first and second periods went by without a hitch. However, Sabrina thinks calculus math is boring. Third period was fun for Sabrina since it was history class. Sabrina loves learning history, especially supernatural history. Lunchtime finally rolls by when Sabrina gets a phone call. She sees the caller ID, and a smile curls on her lips. She answers the phone.
“Hello there, my lady. Your loyal servant, Brett, is at your service.” Brett says jokingly through the phone.
“Hahaha! You can stop with the jokes, Brett,” replies Sabrina as she laughs at Brett’s joke.
“So, how are you holding up after the move?” Brett asks.
A faint smile forms on Sabrina’s lips as she hears Brett's voice.
“I’m settling into the new house just fine. I’ve made a few friends here at school. They’re nice people.” replies Sabrina.
“I see. That’s good to hear. Have you found any leads yet about Jayden?” Brett asks curiously.
There’s a long silence before Sabrina starts speaking again.
“I felt his presence here at the school the other day. I think he’s somewhere in this town, but I haven’t seen him yet. He’s probably concealing his presence. Not that I blame him. I understand when you don’t want to be found.” Sabrina says as her smile fades and tears stream down her cheeks again.
Sabrina can hear Brett click his tongue in irritation. Ever since she has known him, he has had a habit of clicking his tongue when he’s angry.
“Please, don’t give up on finding Jayden. You still have to tell him the words that you never got to say to him all those years ago. Besides, you have me by your side.” declares Brett as he tries to cheer up Sabrina.
Sabrina wipes away her tears and smiles.
“Thanks, Brett. I needed to hear that. Anyway, I gotta go. Lunch break is halfway over.” says Sabrina as she ends the call.
Sabrina sees Miguel and Kason and runs up to them.
“Miguel, Kason!” Sabrina calls out.
Miguel and Kason look up and see Sabrina run up to them.
“Hi there, Sabrina,” Kason says with a smile.
“Wanna eat lunch with us?” Miguel asks curiously.
“Sure,” replies Sabrina.
Sabrina, Miguel, and Kason make their way to the cafeteria and grab their food trays. They sit down at an empty table and start eating. However, Sabrina begins to become uncomfortable because of the crowd of humans. She’s always avoided school cafeterias because it triggered her thirst for blood. But she doesn’t want to let down her friends. So Sabrina tries to endure her thirst.
