(Evelyn's POV) Arthur and Leo pressed their hands to the barrier. I watched them without moving closer. Seeing them brought no satisfaction. I had no urge to prove how much they had hurt me. Their own recording had already done that. My mother’s hand tightened on my arm. "Evelyn, honey? What is it? You look like you've seen a ghost." I squeezed her hand. "It's nothing, Mom. Just a bad memory fading." Their voices came through the barrier in broken bursts. "Eve, please! I was wrong. I know that now! I’ve lost everything. Give me a chance to fix it. Leo needs his mother!" Leo pressed his face against the wall until his cheek flattened. "Mommy, please come back. I’ll be good now. I don’t want anyone else. I just want you." My mother was still holding my hand when I faced them again.
