When I finally opened my eyes, I wasn't in the snow anymore. I was lying on the softest, largest bed I had ever seen. The room was massive, decorated in rich mahogany and gold, with a huge fireplace crackling in the corner. This wasn't a packhouse room. This was a royal chamber. The Alpha's castle.
"So, my Luna is finally awake."
I gasped and shot up, pulling the thick velvet blanket to my chest. Kael was standing by the large window, his broad back facing me. He slowly turned around, and without the terrifying red glow, his eyes were a breathtaking shade of deep forest green.
"Luna?" My voice shook, panic rising in my throat. "N-no. You're mistaken, Alpha. I'm just an Omega. And my mate... he... he rejected me tonight." The memory brought a fresh wave of tears to my eyes.
In a fraction of a second, Kael was sitting on the edge of the bed. The air in the room grew heavy with his sudden, overwhelming dominance. His eyes flashed crimson red again, and a dangerous, rumbling growl vibrated from his chest.
"That weak, pathetic boy from the Silver Moon Pack dared to reject my Queen?" Kael's voice was deadly quiet, but it held the promise of pure violence. He reached out, his large, rough hand gently wiping a tear from my cheek. The sparks from his touch sent electricity straight to my heart.
"He didn't reject you, Elara. The Moon Goddess saved you for me," Kael whispered fiercely, his thumb caressing my jaw. "You are not an Omega anymore. You are mine. And I promise you, by tomorrow morning, the entire Silver Moon Pack will pay for making you cry."
I pulled the thick, silk sheets up to my chin, shivering not from the cold—the roaring fireplace kept the room incredibly warm—but from the sheer magnitude of what had just happened. Less than a few hours ago, I was Elara, the pathetic, abused Omega of the Silver Moon Pack. I was the dirt beneath Lucas’s shoes. My own mate had rejected me for my cruel step-sister in front of hundreds of people. The pain of the severed bond had been enough to kill me.
But I didn't die. Instead, I was rescued by a living nightmare. Alpha Kael. The monster mothers warned their pups about. The Alpha whose name alone made other Alphas bow their heads in fear. And he had called me... his.
My inner wolf, who had been whimpering and dying inside just hours ago, was now purring softly, completely mesmerized by the lingering scent of pine and dark chocolate that covered the pillows. She felt safe. For the first time in eighteen years, we felt protected.
Suddenly, a soft knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts. Before I could answer, a woman walked in. She looked to be in her late forties, with kind, warm eyes and a silver tray loaded with more food than I usually saw in a week.
"Good morning, Luna," she said, her voice gentle as she set the tray on the nightstand. She bowed her head deeply, baring her neck to me in a sign of absolute respect.
I flinched, instinctively trying to make myself smaller. "P-please, don't call me that. I'm just an Omega. I... I shouldn't be here."
The woman offered a motherly smile. "My name is Cora, child. I am the head Omega of the Blood Moon Pack. And here, in King Kael's territory, you are no longer a slave. The Alpha has commanded that anyone who disrespects you will answer to his claws. You are our Queen now."
Tears pricked my eyes. A head Omega who didn't look exhausted or beaten? A pack where I wasn't treated like garbage?
"Where is he?" I whispered, almost afraid of the answer.
Cora’s smile faded slightly, replaced by a look of fierce pride. "The King has gathered his elite warriors. He is currently at the borders of the Silver Moon Pack. He went to teach them exactly what happens when someone touches what belongs to the Blood Moon."
