Chapter14 -

1523 Words
My wife and my cousin have been in her room slamming keyboards left and right. Yelling commands to people on the phones. I was so impressed on how fast she moved. She commanded the room. Weak wife, my ass! In just a matter of hours, they found Jenny and Margarita working in a large, private mansion to a well-known governor in Virginia. The other six women were sent to Florida working for a senator and a judge. We sent Damion the information and he had his teams enroute with an hour. We were waiting by the phones, my wife pacing back and forth. My cousin scouring the net. My boys were with my sister in the entertainment room. They were watching Disney movies until all three fell asleep. Of course, Giovanni was sitting in a corner just watching them. My friend has it bad. Hell, so did I. After four long hours, Damion sent message: Packages retrieved, enroute Home. All the women were unharmed. They were sold off as house slaves for the rich. Damion already has in motion his retaliation plan. He does not believe in letting the law take care of this situation. Good old, pay-back is his policy. I do not judge. I do not disagree. I commend him. I do not judge the man either. His wife was taken for helping others. I would burn down this world for Cassandra. Nobody touches what is mine. My wife, my boys, my sister, my family. It is pure pandemonium for the past six hours. Cassandra called Henry and explained to him what was happening. The reservation is patiently waiting for the return of the six women. I could only imagine what could be going through Henry’s mind. It has been almost three years without his wife. Cassandra told me that he left everything in its place. Like he was holding out for his wife to be back in his arms. I watched Cassandra move tirelessly back and forth in the room. Gerardo was hot on her heels. He turned and looked at me with a look of pure awe. My wife. She is a wonder. I have no idea who she kept going. She hardly ate any food. Luckily my chef, kept food warm for her. He understands that work and commitment of what these people do. Luca has been our chef since I was five years old. My mother hired him and took in his family when they had nothing. His family was murdered just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. My mother met his wife when she was trying to get a job at our hotel in Naples. My mother arranged for his wife Clara to work for her and found out the Luca was a chef. So of course, he fit in just perfectly. My mother would tell him what she wanted, and he cooked to perfection. My mother is also godmother to his three children. They are all grown and attend college. My mother made arrangements for them to attend college of their choice, and they will all have jobs with me when they come back. I have a new accountant, a new lawyer and a new doctor. We gave them the choice of what they wanted to study. They had a family meeting and decided to pay it forward. Starting with me. I was very proud to call them family. They will be part of the legitimate businesses we now have. I busted my ass and made it happen with the help of Giovanni and Gerardo. They were both meticulous in our efforts to get everything on the right track. I still have my most trusted allies in place. Judges, police commissioners, police captains, lawyers, governors, senators, councilmen and a few district attorneys. We all work in silence to make things right as the law only has limits. We go beyond the limit to balance the scale. Cassandra sat back in her chair looking up at the ceiling. Gerardo was quietly on the phone with his contacts to make sure the scales were balanced with the people who took these women. I gently took Cassandra’s hand and led her out of the room and headed to the dining room. There were plates of food awaiting us. I had a tray of food taken to Gerardo by our housekeeper, Celia. My wife looked spent. I could tell she was grinding her beautiful jaw. She took a deep breath and picked up a fork. “Why? Why are people so stupid? Why do the rich and famous think that they can get away with s**t like thing? You just don’t treat people like objects. You just cannot decide to go shopping for slaves. I will do whatever I can to make these people pay, dearly.” “I know you will Tesoro. Just remember you are not alone in this. You now have Gerardo following you like a puppy. He is so proud of his Dona. She is the ultimate, true meaning of power. You exude more class and humanity than anyone I know. You will have everything at your disposal. We, as a family, will see to it. Now, please, my love…please eat some food. You hardly touched your food earlier. You cannot keep working yourself into exhaustion and not eat. I need you healthy.” She smiled and cupped my face. I leaned over and kissed her gently. She dug into the food and ate almost everything I served her. She was so exhausted her eyes were starting to droop. She asked me for a glass of red sweet wine, “I feel like a little sweet nectar will help me sleep.” “I will give you some sweet nectar my love, so, so much sweet nectar.” I growled in her ear. “Cousin, please, I just ate.” Gerardo snipped as he entered the room. “Dona, Henry is on the phone. I only answered it, because it was Henry.” He handed Cassandra her cell phone and bowed out of the room. He has a tremendous amount of respect for his Dona. Cassandra was on the phone with Henry for a few minutes and hung up. She looked at me with tears in her eyes. I was killing me to see her this way. Jenny had told Henry and Damion’s team that all the women had microchips injected into their bodies and were not able to get away from their captors. Damion had a doctor on the plane ride back to Montana, and she removed the chips. The doctor took detailed reports from each woman and then allowed to go with their families after the doctor gave each one an exam. None were sexually assaulted. They were treated like slaves from the 1500’s. Jenny had explained to Damon’s team that each one was interviewed to ascertain each woman’s skill and sold off to the new captors. Cassandra told Henry she is tackling a new issue at home and would visit as soon as she was finished. This brought my attention to the man I had sent to our warehouse for interrogation. The sniper that shot my wife. I took Cassandra to check on the boys and then took her to our bedroom. She took a long hot shower. I let her be for a moment. I stood outside of the shower with a large soft towel and wrapped her in it and led her to the vanity. I had her sit while I brushed her hair out. I dressed her in a nightgown. I helped her to get into the bed and pulled the covers over her body. I knew she needed to sleep. Within minutes she was out like a light. I kissed her forehead, “Sleep, my queen. I will be right back.” I closed the door and stood outside the bedroom momentarily. I put my hand on the door and thought to myself. My queen, my warrior woman, my love. She has more strength and resolve in one little finger than anyone I know. I am so very proud to call her my wife. Shit, that reminds me. The liars club…Dahlia and my father. Giovanni, who followed me down the stairs “Has the guest said anything?” “No boss, do you want me to contact Carmine for his assistance?” “Yes, he can bring his little medical kit. I do not care what it takes. Find out from that filter and if he does not talk, Carmine can keep him indefinitely.” “Damn, he will be so excited. I will see to it boss. How is the Dona?” he was concerned. “She is exhausted. I just do not see how she can keep doing this. She was so wiped out. Her facial expression told the hold story. I need to keep her healthy.” “You do what you need Santino, both of you deserve to be happy.” He went on direction, and I walked the other way to my mother’s old office to make some calls.
