Chapter 3 - Cassandra

2046 Words
My boys are teething. Marie, the baby’s pediatrician has teething tablets for the baby’s I have an appointment to take them for their double booster shots. Sounds painful. I hate shots. I hate that they have to have shots. I load up that diaper bag in my dodge hellcat and check the baby car seats. Locked and loaded in place. I put both my boys in the back seat and back the car out of the garage. I look around and slowly make my way into town, where the doctor’s office is located. I decided to grab some groceries after the doctor’s visit. The hair in the back of my neck is in a flurry. I feel eyes on me. I have my go bag in the trunk of the hellcat. I had my car upgrade to a ‘demon’ to basically outrun anything following me. My laptop is in the diaper. My backup generator is in the trunk. I paid extra to have one made to fit in the trunk of the car. I love it. It suns silently. Just a gentle hum. I have a cabin in Montana that I could borrow from Silvia’s husband, Damian Crow. He is the owner of the company that we work for. He is also Blackfoot Indian. The cabin is part of the reservation, and you have to have permission to enter. You have to check-in with the tribal police. The head of the tribal police was Henry Crowfoot. Another friend of mine. We helped bring his sister, Crystal, back to the reservation. We were able to locate Henry’s sister that was taken by a s*x trafficker from her high school. She was so young. We located her within hours of being taken because luck was on our side this time. Someone reported her being grabbed off the street. Damian had recruited Silvia after she slept with him and found out what kind of company he had. He figured to keep her silent this way. I laugh at both of them. They are exactly alike. Madly in love with each other. He is ex-military, CIA or something like that. I did not dig into his background. Yet. I figured, if I need to know then I will. I have a storage room set up with truck and trailer. I can drive my car into the back of the trailer. My ram truck 2500 Laramie is a beast. It will haul everything and more. It is smoky charcoal and fully loaded. My trailer toy hauler, 2023 Keystone, Impact fully loaded. I have paid cash for my items. I have everything in my name, but I am using my mother’s maiden name. I had everything I need to move quickly with my sons. My baby’s had their shots. I had already picked up some baby Tylenol, just in case needed for fevers. They were sound asleep in the back seat. I ordered from the market app and had the items delivered to my car. I just showed them my confirmation number and they load my groceries. No need to unload my sons. I was wary of my surroundings. There was a SUV, black with dark windows sitting at the end of the parking lot. I watched as it started up when I started my car. I slowly pulled out of the parking lot and drove to the police station and parked. I wanted it to look like I was going inside. But, my luck, an officer had walked out of the building, and I waved him over asking for directions. I purposely gave him a street that was directly where the SUV had stopped across the street. The office pointed in the direction of the SUV and the SUV drove off. I knew it. I am being followed. I sent a quick message to Silvia ‘hawk in flight’. She knew I was on my way to get my truck and trailer. I thanked the officer and drove in the opposite direction of my loft. Silvia knew to have my loft ‘cleaned’. She had a police officer, that worked with us, stationed outside of my loft. It would seem like a home visit to prevent anyone from stopping by as the cleaners were inside. My property would be packed up within thirty minutes and transported to one of our storage containers at the port. I drove into the storage facility and hit the remote to my trailer. I drove straight in and got my babies out and put them in the travel seats in the ram and started up the truck. I secured my car and locked up the back of the trailer. Luckily the storage facility had an emergency exit. I had Silvia set off a false fire alarm to the emergency gate would open up for me. I drove out and headed to Montana. I did not see the SUV anywhere. Silvia sent me a message, ’chicken hawks still watching the nest’. Which meant whoever was following me was waiting at my loft. I am already barreling down the highway with multiple other travelers. It was camping season. Perfect cover. I blend in with everyone else on the highway. I had snacks in the trailer. I pulled into a truck stop and gas up the truck and extra gas tanks for the generators. I two extra generators, just in case. The drive was roughly fourteen hours. I called Henry ahead of time giving him the code I am in flight from my husband. He knew my story. Mafia wife runs away. Pregnant. The whole sob story. Yeah, yeah whatever! The only stops I made were to change my boys and feed them. I had car seats attached to the sofas in the trailer and a flat screen tv. I stopped at the tribal police for check-in. Henry met me outside by my trailer. “My Fighting Hawk sister, how are you? The boys good?” Henry chuckled as I got out of the truck and hugged him tightly. “Henry, too much time has passed. I should have visited sooner. But my circumstances have changed. He found me. The boys are fine. They just fell asleep. Come see them.” We entered the side of the trailer. “My gosh, they are big boys. They would love it here. You know you are always welcome to stay as long as you want. My men know to keep you hidden. Your cabin is ready for you. We stocked more firewood. Mother has prepared bread and her special jam for you.” I smiled as he told me. “Oh my, I just love her preserves. I have some herbs that she wanted. I remembered to grab them before I left the city a day ago. I was going to overnight them, but here I am!” “No worries, we got you covered sister. Go and relax. I will send Millie, tomorrow afternoon. This will give you time to relax and unwind. I will send a scout with you. We would watch from here if anyone followed you.” Henry hugged me again and kissed my forehead. I love him like an older brother I never had. “Thank you, my brother.” I got back inside the truck and drove up to my cabin. Will was following me up to the cabin. He was married to Henry’s sister, Crystal. When we were able to bring back Crystal, Will was waiting for her. After her recovery therapy they got married. I call Crystal every now and then to check on her. I reached the cabin and parked out back. There were large juniper bushes that would cover the truck and trailer. I parked and Will pulled the dummy door behind the trailer to enclose it. He did a security sweep once more and waved me over. I got out and thanked him for everything. I gave him a special knife that I had from my training with my CIA friend. Will was a knife collector. I handed the thirteen-inch tactical knife and knife holder. A nice snake eye tactical knife with a fixed blade. He smiled and nodded. He did a little happy dance towards his jeep. He got back into his jeep and slowly drove away. I brought the boys inside and set them in a playpen and unpacked their frozen breast milk and baby foods. I was still nursing them. I have tons of baby foods and diapers stocked up. Up here we have burn holes. We burn up trash. There’s no weekly pick up here. I was able to start up my generator and hook up to the government tower using their Wi-Fi. I had blockers set up. I got the babies set in in their crib after their bath. I made a nice salad and sat just outside the door. The cabin had a beautiful wrap around porch and had a view of the lake and mountain side. You could still see snowcaps on the tops of the mountains. I went to bed dreaming of my husband. I still loved him. My heart was hurting. I woke up early and had some pomegranate tea and sat in the front porch and waited for my little gremlins to wake up. It did not take them very long. I heard, ‘momma, momma’ from their bedroom. I set of a large jar to make some sun tea and brought the boys out to sit on a blanket in the sun. It was a beautiful day. Millie drove up in her jeep singing away to a tune on her radio. She was so funny. Millie was the town of Browning’s preschool teacher. She was great with kids. She brought over a two-way radio that Henry had sent. “Girlfriend! How the hell have you been?” she screamed from her jeep as she bounced out of it. Thank goodness she remembered to put it in park before she jumped out. “I am just fine. How have you been sweetie? I missed you and pretty much everyone after we left this place.” “Yes, it all quieted down after you and the girls left. Crystal did great in therapy. Will was there for her every step of the way. He was her rock. Hey guess what. They are having a baby. I was able to help Crystal get a job at the school I work at, and they are back on their feet. Will is now second in command. Well, he is Henry’s back-up. So, you know – same s**t! Hahaha” “That’s great. And you and your hubby? Babies on your calendar yet?” “Well, as a matter of fact…I am nine weeks along!” she says shyly. “That is wonderful. I so happy for you both. By the way, I have tons of baby stuff. I am having Silvia gather everything and shipped here. It will be in the name of the Reservation Childrens home. Also, I was able to talk one of the companies that I worked with in victim recovery to donate to the school here. There will be backpacks, school supplies, teacher supplies. I am also working on a silent donor gift program for school meals.” “You are an angel, you know that.” Millie chirped. “I just try and pay it forward. I think of my chubby baby boys whenever I think of all the help that the Rez helped me with. If Henry was not in Oregon at the time when my water broke, my boys may not have made it. Just the trip from New York to California was long. Henry was in Oregon on a call from a tracker about his sister. He found me at the building we were both investigating. I did not realize my water broke. Henry found me and the rest is history. But when I got the call that Crystal and some other women were taken, I could not ignore it. It was message from above to stop and help. Even if I was ready to pop. Henry got me to my doctor and helped deliver my babies. For that I will ever be grateful.”
