“Okay baby boys, you put all of your toys away. Wash your hands and come with me for dinner. Daddy is coming home.” I laughed as Domenico and Danila argued in the bathroom. Both came out with wet shirts and clean hands. I knew that would happen. They always play with the water more than wash.
Gio and Julianna retired to Gio’ s studio out back. I had dinner and a mall cake waiting for the newlyweds. I was smiling at my boys when my phone buzzed.
Santino.
I smiled as I answered, “Miss me already. Two phone calls in one day.”
“My love, listen carefully.” My stomach dropped. Gerardo and Sarah were talking with the boys when Gerardo noticed my demeanor. He stood up.
“Santino, what happened?” my tone was serious.
“Someone other than Carlo is driving my car to meet with your crazy ass sister. But she has this man’s pregnant wife. She is being held hostage. I am going to send you an address. I need for you to locate and extract his wife.”
“Send me the address. Are you okay? I swear, Santino, if that b***h has hurt you I will…” I stopped myself as I looked at the end of the dinner table where our boys were watching me.
“Yes, my love. I will do exactly that. Keep your phone on.” I smiled and waved to the boys. Sarah continued talking with the boys. They did not answer her as Gerardo followed me hastily into Santino’s office.
It was the only up and running computer where I could get my hands on. Gerardo already had his laptop up and running.
He quickly checked the satellite and located Santino’s car heading in the opposite direction of the villa. He sent a message to our men to follow the car at a safe distance.
I ran a check on the address that Santino gave me. Just outside of Chicago, a suburban area. Small house. Owner, Jerry Owens. Wife, Petunia Owens, schoolteacher. Nine months pregnant. Oh my God! She had just started her maternity leave. Medical records show two previous pregnancies…lost. My heart broke. She was taken off of work by her doctor early due to a cervical abnormality. High risk. She is to have complete bedrest.
I checked the neighborhood door cams. It shows only one man entered the house early this morning and has not left. A car pulled into the driveway and cameras showed a big burly man in the driver’s seat. He answered his phone but did not exit the vehicle. Then the car backed up and left.
Dahlia.
She must have notified the man that his wife is inside the house and there was someone there with her.
“Santino, your driver. A big burly man.”
“Yes.”
“Okay, we are sending someone to extract his wife. She will be safe. Give me fifteen minutes.”
“Gerardo, Victoria is in the gym. Please call her.”
“On it, Dona.” He scrambled out of the office and within minutes.
“You rang, boss lady?” Victoria waltzed into the room in her normal arrogant way. Her demeanor changed when she noticed my facial expression.
“I needed you at this address thirty minutes ago. A man holding a pregnant woman hostage. Use lethal force. No harm is to come to the woman. I have a medical doctor en route to standby. She is a high-risk pregnancy.”
“Will do.” The look on Victoria’s face was lethal. She does not hesitate with situations like this. She walked out of the house in her gym clothes. Perfect cover.
“Santino, Vic is on her way. She will do exactly what she is meant to do.”
“I love you, Cassandra. I…”
“Don’t you dare. You better bring your ass home in one piece. I need you.”
“I was going to say, I love you. I could not wait to get home and have dinner with my family.”
My heart was about to burst out of my chest. My hands were shaking. I felt warm hands on mine. Gerardo. He smiled and nodded.
I did not realize my phone had pinged. Victoria. ‘Package secured. Bad man, dead. Medical is with the momma-to-be and I will ask for further instructions.’
I exhaled and sat back in the chair. “Santino, his wife, is secure. I had a medical doctor there checking her out to make sure she was okay.” It felt like hours had gone by.
“Thank you, my love. My man, your wife is secure. My wife has a medic checking her out. Take me to the person that hired you. My love, I have to make a quick stop and will be home in just a bit.”
Gerardo had already dispatched more men to follow Santino’s car.
Santino walked in the door ninety minutes later. I quickly walked to him and leaped into his embrace. He held me tightly. He knew I needed it.
“I am fine. She escaped yet again. I have men searching for her. The man she contacted was working three jobs to make sure his wife had everything she needed. She lost…”
“I know. Victoria is staying there until a special friend of mine arrives. My doctor friend will make sure the couple have everything they need. I am paying the bill. Lacey was there for me when I thought I was alone nine months about to burst. Sylvia had contacted her just the day before I went into labor. She met with Henry when he drove me to the hospital.”
Santino whispered, “I know. Henry told me as we had our interview in town before he let me see you.”
“I have something else to tell you.” I smiled as I kissed his lips.
