Chapter 4 - Santino

“Boss, she is gone. She must have sensed eyes on her or seen our SUV that was following her. I’m sorry boss, we will find her.” I smiled to myself. Of course, my tesoro was gone. She is extremely intelligent and very capable of taking care of my sons. I have to try and get a message to her I love her and need her back with me. By my side. My bride. My wife. My love. My sons. I hope that they look like their mother. I know they have my eyes. But dear god, I just hope they look like their mother. I am sitting at the airport watching airplanes take off and others landing. We have our own private jet ready on stand-by. But where did my wife run to? She had moments to flee. If I know my wife, she had everything ready to go. But, where? “Gio, have Gerardo check Silvia’s records for the past year. Maybe there is a phone number tied to a location where my wife may have fled to.” “On it, boss!” I stand in the cabin of my jet. I knew my wife would bolt. She is very cunning and has the balls to run again from me. Gerardo tracked down her cousin and is walking into her office shortly. A face-to-face meeting was needed. Silvia missed covering her own steps. Silvia Colombo to be exact. Now known as Silvia Crow, I have heard of her name before. My father had a run in with Silvia’s father. Silvia almost took down a Florida mafia group. She brought them to their knees. Ten million dollars to call her off and they had to help rescue victims of s*x trafficking. Silvia’s father Ricardo Colombo had arranged to purchase shipments from the Florida mafia, that tried to screw him over. Silvia tapped into the resources and almost destroyed their empire. Silvia now married to Damian Crow. Ex-military runs an agency. I was still trying to wrap my head around this computer and cyber thing. It’s not like it was twenty years ago. Muscle and guns. Now it’s cyber and computer wizards. My wife is that a wizard. I smile to myself which turns into rage. How could I be so blind? I look at my wife’s file that Gerardo put together. Trained in mixed martials arts at sixteen. At eighteen graduated from high school with honors. Graduated from college at twenty. Two years early. She crammed extra studies in to graduate early. At the top of the class and her father never knew. Stronzo! How could he ignore this beautiful, intelligent woman. So strong and brilliant. Yet, I lost her with my stupid decision to listen to my father. “Boss. She’s in Montana.” Gio whispers as he walks back to sit next to me in the cabin of the jet. “Have the captain head to Montana.” I murmured. “Already did. But there may be a problem.” “And that would be?” “She’s in the Blackfoot reservation. No one can enter unless tribal police authorize it.” “Get my cousin, Claudia, from the state department to meet me there.” “On it, boss!” Gio leaves the cabin with his phone to his ear. We landed four hours later in Montana at the closest air strip to the reservation. My cousin, Claudia, was stepping off of her flight as I sat down in the waiting area. “Cousin how are you. What can I assist you with today” she says sarcastically. “Not in the mood Claudia. My wife is on the Blackfoot reservation, and I am here to take her home.” “s**t. Are you serious?” “Why am I standing in front of you?” “Oh, boy. We will have a small problem. I know Henry will not allow outsiders to waltz in there to retrieve anyone.” “Okay, then I need you to get a message to him to relay to Cassandra.” I pull out my envelope and hand it to her. She leaves to give my message to the tribal police. I took the time to write a letter to Cassandra professing my apologies and my love for her. I just hope she reads it and does not burn it. I prayed to the moon and stars hoping for a chance to see my bride and my sons. I have sons. Just the thought of having sons, children with my bride, made me smile. My heart was hurting as I kept thinking back to what I did to her. I broke her heart. She must hate me. I need to get on my knees and beg her forgiveness. I need her. I love her. My cousin called me back, almost immediately. “Santino, Henry wants to speak directly with you face to face. He will meet you in town. There’s a diner at the center of town, next to the post office. He said meet him in an hour.” “On my way.” Is the only thing that came out of my mouth. I moved quickly to my SUV, Gio at the wheel, we sped off to the location I was told. I was so nervous my hands were sweaty, and I was trying to control my breathing. “Boss deep breathes. Just remember, she loved you once. You may have to work to earn her love again. Don’t be ashamed to beg. I know I would, if I had the chance with a woman.” “Thank you, Gio. I will need luck.” “Hey, you are Italian. Use your charm, eh! He chuckled. We made it to the diner in thirty-eight minutes. I can hear my beating through my chest. Thump-thump, thump-thump, thump-thump. I looked around the small town and noticed it was quiet and charming. I saw a tribal police jeep parked across the street. I slowly walked into the diner and saw Claudia sitting with a man with a long braid in the back of his head. I walked over to the corner table. He stood up. “Henry, thank you for asking to meet with me. I…” “Hold on, I am protecting my friend. She has been through hell and back. Have a seat and you will understand my need to be careful with who I let onto the reservation.” I sat and he told me about his first meeting with my angel. She was the savior of many women that were taken. Any bad situation you can think of, she was the behind-the-scenes angel that brought many women back to the families. Henry told me about Cassandra being pregnant and so sad. She told him that felt so alone and unwanted. I did not go into detail on my stupidity but told him I loved her than and still. I wanted to rectify what I had done. Henry studied my face for a few minutes. “I need to show you this.” He held his phone out and my angel was dancing with my sons watching her from their little walkers. She was singing and dancing around my sons while they were laughing. She was bounding back and forth as she held my sons in her arms. She was stunning. Mi signora amore (My lady love). She was wearing a t-shirt and ripped jeans. Bare-footed and just gorgeous. My sons were laughing and raising their hands up and down. I was in awe of her. There were two other women dancing and laughing with her. They were all laughing as the song ended and all collapsed onto the chairs in the room. “Listen to the song she is dancing to. Just to let you know, they are many men that would cut off their right hand to be with her.” I heard a country song in the background: Turn it up some Alright boys, this is her favorite song You know that, right? So, if we play it good and loud She might get up and dance again Ohh, she put her beer down Here she comes, here she comes Left, left, left right left Woo Hustlers shootin' eight ball Throwin' darts at the wall Feelin' damn near ten feet tall Here she comes, Lord help us all Ol' T.W.'s girlfriend done slapped him out his chair Poor ole boy, it ain't his fault It's so hard not to stare At that honky tonk badonkadonk Keepin' perfect rhythm, make ya wanna swing along Got it goin' on like Donkey Kong And whoo-wee, shut my mouth, slap your grandma There oughta be a law, get the Sheriff on the phone Lord have mercy, how'd she even get them britches on I could see her playfulness with our sons. She was dancing and waving her arms around. Laughing and giggling with my boys. I wanted that, that right there, in my home. Her carefree playfulness in our home. I just have to have faith that she still loved me. “She still loves you. She told my sister when she first arrived here. You need to let her make the decisions. When I first met her. I could see in her eyes, she was broken. A woman should never have to feel that way, especially by her husband. She is a hell of a woman. Shew is strong and loves you fiercely. She still protects your name. She has never strayed from being your wife. She was dancing in the cabin with her your sons and my sisters, talking about you. You can see it in her eyes, her love for you. You will be lucky as hell, if she takes you back. Have patience brother. She has trust issues. I am risking her trust in me.” “Why are you doing this?” “I lost my wife, because…I was stupid, too! I never had the chance to ask for forgiveness. My wife, was taken from our reservation and her case was one of the unsolved.” He looked down and did not say another word. Henry got up and walked out slowly. He stopped at the doorway and looked over his shoulder and nodded. “She deserves to be loved. She is one of a kind. She still loves you. You almost broke her. Almost.” He whispered and walked away. I took a deep breath and followed him out. Claudia followed me. She left in her SUV back to her office. I followed Henry to the reservation with Gio at the wheel.
