FORBIDDEN DESIRES Chapter 5: The Deal with Shadows Ellen’s POV The chill of the night wrapped around me like a wet cloak .Damien’s hand hovered just inches from mine. His question hung in the air between Us, heavier than any weight I had ever carried. “Are you ready to make a deal?” My pulse thundered in my ears. Every instinct screamed to pull away, to refuse, to reject the man who had haunted my family’s downfall. Yet, there was a flicker of something else desperation, hope, or perhaps a dangerous curiosity that nudged me forward. Damien’s eyes burned, unwavering, as if daring me to say yes. All of a sudden I felt a presence behind me Rio stood behind me , gun drawn, muscles taut, caught between loyalty and doubt. His gaze flicked between me and Damien, searching for any sign of betrayal. My mind raced. The ledger was my leverage, but I had no idea what secrets Damien held. I had been taught to see him as the villain, but now the lines blurred. Before i could answer, a figure emerged from the shadows a man masked and armed, voice cold and commanding. “Drop everything,” the stranger barked, “or no one walks away.” Gunfire cracked the night Rio shoved me behind a dumpster, the echo of gunfire bouncing off the walls. I pressed myself against the cold metal, heart pounding as the chaos erupted around us. Damien ducked, pulling me down with him. The stranger advanced relentlessly, a ghost in the night. Then, a sudden explosion tore through the street, sending shards of glass and concrete raining down. Amid the chaos, I caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure slipping away, a silhouette that seemed all too familiar. My breath caught. After the blast, the night was pierced with sirens and shouting. wounded Rio dragged me through alleys and backstreets, the ledger secure in my bag but the danger growing by the second. They found temporary refuge in an abandoned warehouse, its peeling paint and broken windows a stark contrast to the sleek world of Blackwood Industries. “Who was that?” I asked, voice shaking. Rio’s jaw tightened. “Someone who wants the ledger as much as you do and more.” Someone was calling It was Damien His voice crackled through my earpiece suddenly, cold but urgent. “We need to talk. Alone.” My throat was dry . Was this a trap? Or the beginning of a new, dangerous alliance? Suddenly Footsteps The warehouse door creaked open, and Damien stepped inside, his eyes scanning the dark interior. “Let’s be clear,” he said, voice low. “You’re playing with fire.” I squared my shoulders. “I’m done being your pawn.” Damien smiled cold, unreadable. “Good. Because the ledger isn’t just a list of names and numbers. It’s the key to everything. Power, betrayal, survival.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “Trust me, Ellen . The moment you make your move, you’ll need allies you didn’t expect.” Tension crackled between us as we stood mere feet apart, the air thick with unspoken truths and dangerous promises. My phone buzzed. A new message. UNKNOWN: You’re running out of time. Trust no one. My eyes flicked to Damien. His gaze held a warning and maybe a plea. The line between friend and enemy had never been more blurred. Suddenly, the warehouse lights snapped off, plunging us into darkness. My pulse spiked as a cold whisper slid through the black. “Welcome to the real game, Ellen . Let’s see if you survive.”
