After dinner, Liam Shaw left, leaving Aurora Thorne alone in the stone-walled room. She was supposed to start her night shift at the Moonlight Howl restaurant, but tonight, she had other plans. To make time for her escape, she decided to quit.
When she told her werewolf boss, Bark, his eyes flickered with unease. He glanced at the hidden camera on the wall before forcing a smile. “Ms. Aurora… why leave now, when everything’s going so well?”
Aurora kept her expression calm, though her pulse raced. “No reason. I just… need a change.” With that, she left, heading straight home.
Her phone buzzed the moment she stepped inside. Liam’s name flashed:
Babe, Bark said you quit? Are you feeling alright?
She didn’t reply. Instead, she burrowed into her fur blanket and opened another message. Rex’s words appeared as if on cue:
Shadow Train tickets are bought. Blood Moon in seven days. West Bramble Forest. Be ready.
The wooden door slammed open before she could process it. Liam stormed in, hair disheveled, sweat glistening on his forehead. His charm had vanished, replaced with raw fury. “Why aren’t you replying to my messages?! And what’s this about quitting?”
Aurora forced herself to stay calm, recalling Rex’s warning not to challenge an Alpha outright. Her voice softened. “I’m just tired. My heat is coming, and I needed to rest at home.”
Liam’s expression softened momentarily, but then his eyes locked onto her phone, vibrating beneath the blanket. “Who’s been contacting you?!” His voice was sharp, accusing.
Aurora tried to cover it, but Liam was faster. He snatched the phone and scanned it. All he saw was a fake shopping page: a wilderness cloak, a water filter, and a large, mithril-lined suitcase.
Relief washed over him, quickly turning into mockery. “You want gear? You could’ve just asked me. But” he leaned in, golden eyes narrowing, “why are you looking at travel supplies? Out there is dangerous, especially for an Omega like you.”
Aurora steadied her trembling hands and met his gaze. “Liam… if I wanted to postpone the ceremony… to travel first… would you allow it?”
The room fell silent. Even the faint hum of energy from the control room seemed to vanish.
Liam’s face hardened. “Take that back! Your moon cycle must be affecting you.”
“I’m serious!” Aurora snapped, lacing her words. “Seven years, Liam. Seven years I haven’t seen the world beyond this cage! I want to run under a real moon, to breathe free!”
His breath came faster, a storm raging in his eyes. Then, suddenly, his expression softened, a mask of desperate affection returning. He knelt before her, taking her hands gently. “My little wolf… I understand. I do. But postponing the ceremony? Impossible. Have you forgotten the last territorial conflict? Your mind is still fragile. I’m only protecting you.”
He bent lower, pressing a soft kiss to her knees. “I’ll stay. I’ll focus on you until the Blood Moon night. How does that sound?”
Aurora’s body trembled with suppressed fury. She met his deceitful gaze and let her nails dig into her palms. “Liam… do you love me?”
“Of course! My blood and soul belong to you!”
“Then fine,” she said, her voice ice-cold and final. “Swear it—on your Alpha true name, your bloodline, and your wolf soul—to the Moon Goddess! If you have deceived or betrayed me, may your bloodlines wither, your descendants end, and your souls be cast into the Crying Abyss forever, suffering without peace or the embrace of the Moon Goddess. Do you dare?”
Shock froze his face. “Aurora! Have you gone mad?!”
“No oath. No marriage.” She stood on her ground, unwavering.
The silence that followed was suffocating.
Finally, Liam straightened, eyes now sharp, cold, piercing. “You… need to reflect,” he said, voice flat, before slamming the door shut behind him.
Aurora sagged against the wall once the sound faded. She had almost allowed herself to hope he might abandon the bet. How foolish she had been.
Her phone vibrated again. Rex had sent a screenshot of the Blood Moon Live stream comments:
Moonlight Fan: The Omega’s throwing a tantrum? Exciting!
Alpha Fan: Lord Liam is so gentle! Just mark her already!
Ship Scientist: Can’t wait for Queen Selene to show up and put her in her place.
Gambler: Betting she breaks down crying! Odds are 3–1!
Aurora’s teeth bit into her lip as fury surged. With a single, deliberate message to Rex, she let her plan crystallize:
Just wait. On the night of the Blood Moon, I’ll give everyone an ending they’ll never forget.
