Chapter 3

710 Words
Aurora Thorne’s sudden resignation had immediately set off alarms in Liam Shaw’s mind. Surveillance intensified overnight—extra watchers were stationed at every corner, every hallway. Even a simple trip downstairs to take out the trash now felt like walking through a gauntlet of eyes. Aurora’s chest tightened with anxiety. Only a few days remained until the Blood Moon, and though Rex’s escape plan was in motion, she knew the cameras would expose her the instant she neared any exit. As the star of The Taming Show, every move she made was under constant scrutiny. Late that night, sleep refused her. She tossed and turned, finally reaching for her phone. Opening the Blood Moon Live stream, she froze. The screen was split in two: on one side, her own figure curled under her fur blanket; on the other, Liam, pristine and composed, lounged in the control room with a glass of blood wine, his smirk sharp and calculating. The scrolling comments stung like a thousand tiny knives: Netizen: Lord Liam, what are your chances of winning? Liam swirled his wine with practiced arrogance. “My chances? Always one hundred percent.” Netizen: But it seems Aurora doesn’t want the ceremony anymore? “That’s just for show,” Liam replied lightly, chuckling. “She loves me. Pre-wedding jitters. A little tantrum to get my attention.” Netizen: What if she discovers the truth and breaks down? “She won’t,” he said confidently. “At worst, she’ll accept reality. I’ll take care of her for the rest of her life. Fully responsible.” The live stream exploded with reactions, but Aurora felt only ice crawling over her skin. The Alpha she had once trusted—once loved—was nothing more than a predator in disguise. Pain and betrayal coiled tight in her chest, but beneath it, a dark, defiant spark flared. She opened an anonymous account and typed without hesitation: Anonymous: Don’t you feel guilty, deceiving someone who truly loves you? Liam paused, then scoffed. “My friend, you don’t understand. In this world, it’s all strength and power. Even if Aurora doesn’t want this, I have a hundred ways to make her swallow her pride.” He swirled his wine again, tone sharp. “I’ve given her protection, shelter, comfort for seven years. A lone, helpless Omega like her? She’d have been destroyed long ago. I built a world for her—she should be grateful.” Anonymous: What if she leaves and finds another Alpha? Liam laughed, cruel and derisive. “After seven years under my care, her mind and body are already mine. She can’t survive without me. I’ll continue to treat her well—it’s her blessing.” Aurora’s chest tightened, every breath heavy. She shut the phone and moved to the kitchen. Her fingers wrapped around a sharp boning knife, her body trembling with a mix of fear, anger, and defiance. If she couldn’t fight him directly, she could take control of her own terms. Her mind raced: Why should he dictate my life? My freedom? My choices? The knife hovered near her wrist—not to glorify violence, but as a symbol of her desperation. The camera captured her every move. Moments later, Liam’s panic was immediate. “Aurora! What are you doing?!” His voice thundered as he burst through the door, pale and tense. She stood by the stove, calm, an apron tied neatly around her waist, her wrist wrapped in thick bandages. Tilting her head, she feigned innocence. “Liam? You’re back already?” He grabbed her bandaged wrist, eyes wide. “What happened here? Why—why would you cut yourself?!” Aurora blinked, playing the part perfectly. “I… got distracted while cutting meat. But… how did you know I cut myself?” His gaze faltered, and he quickly masked it with charm. “Our bloodlines are connected. I felt danger; I couldn’t ignore it. No matter the distance, I feel everything about you. The bond of our bloodline, my Omega.” Aurora stared at him, every fiber of her body coiled with disappointment, hurt, and anger. She wanted to speak, to rip through the lie, but for now, she held back. The fight had only just begun. **********
