Here goes nothing

The meeting is taking place at the Alpha's office, when the Alpha and I walk in, the Beta and Luna are already there, expecting us. I'm getting more and more nervous with each second, even my palms are sweaty! I must admit this is a new feeling for me. "I've given your offer a lot of thought. And I'll be honest with you, I do have some reservations. You're very young, and basically a human. However, it doesn't mean that you can't be an asset to my pack. And the pack always comes first. So, if you don't mind, we would like to test your abilities," says the Alpha and looks at me expectantly. I can't say this takes me by surprise. I certainly don't mind, up until a couple of days ago my whole life was about learning how to fight and win, what's one more challenge, right?  "Let's do it!" Our little group leaves the office and heads outside most likely to the training ground. There near an obstacle course I see a rather large man who looks like he is waiting for us. "This is our Head trainer Lucas, he is in charge of your evaluation," explains the Alpha.  "Alright, Mia, let's see what you've got!" says the muscle mountain.  "I'm all ears," I respond excitedly. For the next half hour or so I pass one physical test after another, running, jumping, going through different versions of obstacle courses. As for me, I can't wait for the interesting part. As we are joined by four guys of various ages, probably from 16 to about 20, I know that this warmup is finally over. "I've heard what happened at out border yesterday, but I'd like to see you in action myself. These are Damon, Alex, Derek, and Austin, they represent four warrior groups that we have. You'll start with a hand-to-hand combat with Austin. As you progress you'll have a chance to pick out a weapon of your choice," explains Lucas.  I nod and move inside the circle he pointed at. "No shifting and no fatal blows! You may start." Without wasting another second I launch myself at my opponent, I can't let this drag out. His reaction time is decent, but skill level is nowhere near mine. And soon enough it shows when he throws a right hand punch at me without taking into account our height difference and my agility. I duck and counter with a left hand uppercut which he didn't expect, since he thought I was right-handed. I actually don't favor either side, which is pretty rare. I guess this secret is out of the bag now. With Austin out cold, his pack mates drag him out of the circle, and the next guy steps in.  Now that I look at him more attentively, he kind of looks like a bit older version of Austin. The same hazel eyes and dirty blond hair. So they are brothers, and he is most definitely not happy that a girl kicked his brother's ass. Once again I attack first, defending drains more energy, and I really don't want to get hit by a pissed off seventeen-year-old werewolf. He has his block ready, so I punch him in it a couple of times as a distraction, and then I slam my fist really hard near the bottom of his rib cage. It landed well, one of his ribs is either cracked or broken. I side kick him in the same spot with all my strength, and he stumbles out of the circle and bends down in pain. Two more to go. A guy who I assume is Derek gets into his fighting stance and gives me a confident smirk. Someone is in for a rude awakening! He charges at me right away, and as I side-step him I trip him up. As soon as he lands I jump on his back and put him in a headlock. He rolls us over and elbows me in my ribs a couple of times causing me to loosen my hold. I push him off me and jump back to my feet. I notice his right boot coming towards my face right on time, I grab it and side whip kick him in return. He goes down with a groan, and doesn't get up.  I look around, and see the Alpha and Beta having a conversation while Luna is wearing a huge smile on her face. I wonder what her deal is. Unfortunately I don't have the time to figure it out, as Lucas and Damon are headed my way and telling me to pick a weapon. I'm usually a Katana girl, but since we aren't allowed to kill each other a stick would have to do. Damon and I hit each other's sticks lightly as a greeting, step back and then all hell breaks loose.  Damon is strong and knows what he is doing. But so do I. So far none of us has been able to land a single hit. This is slowly tiring me out, I guess it's time for me to use one of my tricks. If I concentrate really hard, I can peek into the future. I can't do it for a long time, as it takes a lot of energy out of me, but in short spurts it comes in really handy. So that's exactly what I do. I see that he will try to swipe at my legs to bring me down and then use the end of the stick to knock me out. I leap up in the air, then use my stick as a pole and double leg push kick him. He lands on his back with a loud thud, and I immediately rush up to him and press the end of my stick into his throat. He knows that he lost, so I offer my hand to help him get up which he accepts. As soon as he is up I hear cheering coming from the Luna, she is totally fan-girling right now! Lucas is the first one to come up to me, he gives me a firm shake and says, "That was quite impressive!" "I second that. Now let's talk about your offer" says the Alpha and motions for us to return the pack house. This time Lucas joins us in the office which totally makes sense, since I will be working with him if everything goes well. I hope it does, I kind of like this place. After we get settled the Alpha starts speaking. "Like I've already said, I'm impressed with what I saw. You clearly had amazing training, but what is even more admirable is the fact that instead of a little girl I saw a mature fighter. I think Lucas will agree with me that having you join our training program will benefit our warriors greatly. You can train with the Gold group and help Lucas with the other three. However, you are still young, so my Luna and I would like you to attend school as well. It will provide you with some teenage normalcy and help you assimilate faster." Well, s**t, I wasn't expecting that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to furthering my education. Far from it, and I love learning new things, but I don't think that a school with all its teenage drama is my scene. However, if they are serious about this condition, I could give it a try. It won't kill me, I don't think. If I hate it I can talk them into homeschooling me or something. "Ok, Alpha. I will also need information about the security situation here, enemies, intruders, neighbors, things like that. Oh, and that school of yours, I like to be prepared." "We can do that later today. For now all you need to prepare yourself for is lunch. I will introduce you to the pact and inform everyone that you will be staying with us for a while. I have a feeling that you don't want to share your life story, at least the part that we know, with anyone else, so we need a cover story." That's very perceptive of him, the less information people learn about me the better it will be for everyone. But people will want to know something about who I am and where I came from. "I can be someone's distant relative whose parents died in a rogue attack or something," this is honestly all I can think of right now. "I have a better idea. Why don't we tell everyone that we met Mia at an orphanage when we were visiting the Whitepaw pack last month. We got on so well that we invited you to come stay with us for a while. everyone in the pack knows how much I want a daughter, so they won't be surprised that I found myself one," chuckles the Luna. "That could work, the Whitepaws have been struggling with rogue attacks for a while, and they are located quite far away," responds the Beta. "Then it's settled, I'll see everyone in the dining room in one hour," says the Alpha standing up from the couch. I leave the office and head to my room a bit startled, did I just get adopted???
