It was midnight when Lina stirred from her light sleep. She had been tossing and turning, her mind restless with thoughts of Aric. The room was cloaked in darkness, the only light coming from the moon filtering through the curtains. In the quiet stillness, she felt a presence beside her, and her heart skipped a beat. She kept her eyes closed, pretending to be asleep as she sensed someone leaning over her. A familiar, comforting warmth spread across her forehead, and she realized it was Aric. He had returned. His lips brushed gently against her skin in a tender kiss, sending a shiver down her spine. "I love you, Lina," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "Beyond reality, beyond everything. But will you be okay with my world? It’s full of danger and the supernatural. Will you be able to bear all this?" Lina’s heart ached at his words. She longed to reach out and reassure him, to tell him that she didn’t care about the dangers, that she wanted to be with him no matter what. But she remained still, listening intently. Aric sighed deeply, the weight of his worries evident in his voice. "I question myself every day, Lina. Am I being selfish by keeping you here? You deserve a normal life, free from the chaos and peril that surrounds me. Yet, I can’t imagine my life without you." Tears welled up in Lina’s eyes as she lay there, absorbing his heartfelt confession. She had never imagined Aric feeling this vulnerable, this conflicted. His usual stoic demeanor masked a heart full of love and doubt, a heart that beat for her. Aric gently caressed her cheek, his touch so soft it was almost a ghost of a feeling. "I will protect you, always. But will my love be enough? Will it be worth the risks you’ll face by my side?" Lina’s resolve strengthened with each word he spoke. She knew now, more than ever, that her place was with him. The dangers of his world didn’t matter; what mattered was the bond they shared, the love that had blossomed between them despite the odds. As Aric pulled away, she could sense his hesitation, his fear of her rejection. She wanted to reach out, to hold him and assure him that they could face anything together. But she knew the time wasn’t right. Instead, she continued to pretend to sleep, hoping that her presence alone would offer him some comfort. Aric stood there for a moment longer, watching her with a mixture of longing and uncertainty. Then, with a final gentle touch, he turned and left the room, leaving Lina to her thoughts. Once he was gone, Lina opened her eyes, tears streaming down her face. She felt a profound sadness for the pain Aric carried, but also a fierce determination to prove to him that their love was worth fighting for. "I’ll show you, Aric," she whispered into the darkness. "I’ll show you that we can face anything together."
