Lina paced the length of her room, her mind racing with thoughts of escape. She missed her parents terribly and longed to return to the familiarity of home. Despite the strange allure Aric held over her, she couldn't stay in this palace forever. She needed to find a way out.
For days, Lina roamed the expansive corridors, searching for an opportunity to escape. The palace was a labyrinth of rooms and hallways, each more grand and imposing than the last. Servants moved about quietly, their eyes always on their tasks, never lingering on her for too long. She needed to be careful.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows through the palace, Lina noticed a door slightly ajar at the end of a hallway she hadn't explored before. Curiosity piqued, she glanced around to make sure no one was watching and slipped inside.
The room was dimly lit by the glow of the setting sun filtering through large windows. It was richly decorated, with ornate furniture and tapestries lining the walls. Lina's breath caught in her throat as her eyes fell on the massive bed at the center of the room. Aric was lying there, shirtless, his muscular body half-covered by a silk sheet. He looked peaceful, almost vulnerable, in sleep.
Lina couldn't help but be mesmerized. Aric's physique was incredible—each muscle perfectly defined, his skin tanned and smooth. His face, usually so stern and commanding, was relaxed in slumber, revealing a softer, more handsome side. She found herself admiring him, drawn to his undeniable allure.
"Are you done watching me?" Aric's deep voice cut through the silence, startling Lina.
She froze, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry," she stammered, turning to leave. "I didn't mean to intrude."
Before she could escape, Aric moved with lightning speed, grabbing her wrist and pulling her back. His grip was firm but not painful, his eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made her heart race.
"You're not very good at sneaking around, are you?" he said, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
Lina's pulse quickened. "I just... I was looking for a way out."
Aric's expression darkened. "Why are you so eager to leave? Are you that afraid of me?"
Lina swallowed hard, torn between her fear and the strange, growing attraction she felt toward him. "I miss my family," she whispered. "I just want to go home."
Aric's grip loosened slightly, but he didn't let go. "Home," he repeated, his voice softer now. "You think you're safer there than here with me?"
Lina nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. "Yes."
Aric sighed, his gaze intense and unreadable. "You're not leaving, Lina. It's too dangerous. You don't understand the world beyond these walls."
"Please," she pleaded, her voice trembling.
Instead of answering, Aric pulled her closer, his eyes darkening with a mix of emotions she couldn't decipher. "You need to learn to trust me," he said, his voice a low growl. "And maybe, I need to teach you."
Before Lina could react, Aric leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear. "Stop running," he whispered, his breath hot against her skin.
Lina's knees felt weak, her body responding to his nearness in a way she couldn't control. "Aric..." she breathed, unsure of what she wanted to say.
He pulled back slightly, his eyes searching hers. "You intrigue me, Lina," he said softly. "I don't know why, but I can't let you go."
With that, he tilted her chin up, his lips descending to capture hers in a searing kiss. Lina's mind went blank, her body melting against his as his arms wrapped around her. The kiss was demanding, full of pent-up passion and frustration. Aric's hands roamed over her back, pulling her even closer.
Just as suddenly as it had begun, Aric broke the kiss, his breathing ragged. "You have no idea what you do to me," he murmured, his eyes dark with desire.
Lina's heart pounded in her chest, her body tingling with the aftershocks of his touch. "Aric, I..."
"Shh," he whispered, pressing a finger to her lips. "Go back to your room. We'll talk more tomorrow."
Dazed and confused, Lina nodded and turned to leave, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. As she slipped out of the room, she couldn't help but glance back at Aric, who was watching her with an intensity that made her shiver. She knew that things between them had changed irrevocably, and there was no going back.
