Meredith’s POV His footfalls are quiet, but I can feel as Cole closes the distance between us, his long strides making it look like no effort at all. "You didn't have to do that" he begins. "Neither did you" I snap in reply, my blood boiling as I continue to stomp down the halls, knowing all too well I can't outrun him. "... I apologise..." Cole starts. "Stop. Just stop" I growl, stopping and turning to him as I do. "You may not think there's a difference but there is. A vow is unbreakable. Unavoidable...... you shouldn't have done that" I end, shaking my head as I do. "Maybe I should stay here" I whisper, feeling the weight of my words as I do. "Why?" he asks, brows furrowed as he does. "To keep safe" I reply quietly, hating that my words currently sound like my father's... my brother's. "Fu*k no" Cole scoffs in reply, even this wolf now not taking me seriously. I scowl at him, his laughter ending abruptly as I do. "Sorry... sorry" he says, taking a breath as his face returns to serious. "This day" he mumbles, a mantra I feel like he has said before... many times before. "If this... I'm... inconvenient to you......" I begin, mistakably letting my insecurities show. "In the last hour you've been more 'convenient' to me then..... then a lot of people" he finishes with a sigh. "But what if...." I start, Cole stepping forward... stepping into my space as I do. "Do you trust me?" he asks, his question blunt in a way that leaves me silent. "Do you trust me?" he repeats, eyes connecting with mine as he does. "Yes" I breathe, the word slipping from my lips. "Good then you're coming" he says my mind going places it shouldn't. Picturing just how many ways this wolf could make me come... probably without even having to touch me..... "Meredith" he prompts, brows scrunching at my silence. "Y... Yes... I'm.... I'm... I will go with you tomorrow" I reply, not quite able to repeat the words myself. A warm smile spreads over Cole's lips at his victory, "Good... good". "Good" I repeat, my brain apparently shrinking each time this wolf comes near. "Good" he repeats with a small laugh, stepping back and nodding a quick goodbye. I watch as he walks away, my eyes apparently unable to leave his as* in his tightly clad jeans. It's only when he turns the corner I'm able to pull myself back together. What the actual fu*k is wrong with me? I've obviously spent way too long between these four walls. I need to get laid..... 'And soon' I add to myself as more images of Cole, his as*, his hands, his thighs enter my mind. I wonder if I can go into heat? Maybe that would explain whatever the fu*k is going through my brain right now. "Hey" Matty calls, pulling me from my thoughts and back into reality. "Do you think wolfless wolves go into heat?" I ask, my brother's face twisting at the question. "Goddess help me" he says rubbing his hands up and down his face as he does. "I'm guessing you're here to tell me off too?" I ask instead, my brother taking a moment to recover before his eyes can actually look at me again. "It's not that I don't want you to be happy Mere..." he starts, the same old lines I've heard more times than I can bear. "I just want you to be safe too" I snide, finishing his sentence for him. "Very funny" he sighs, a look of almost guilt passing over his features before stern determination replaces it. "If... if you're going to go you need to promise me.. promise me you'll stay beside the brute". "The brute?" I question, my brother never seeming to dislike Cole before. "The brute" he confirms, "And trust me, that's one of the nice words Lykos and I have for him right now". "All because he wants to help me?" I ask, wishing I could get back the man, the wolf, the brother I had before we found out I didn't have one. The carefree, funny, jokester instead of this protector, the one who barely breaks a smile anymore. "I will stay with him" I supply, ready to turn and leave my brother behind. "Mere... Mere" he calls, catching hold, gentile hold of my wrist as he does. I look back, my brother's eyes softening as I do, "Have dinner with me?". I pause, defiance dwindling within as my brother continues to give me his puppy dog eyes. "Okay" I sigh, Matty releasing my wrist and holding out his hand for me to lead the way as a small smile plays on his lips. At least he's smiling... sort of.
