CHAPTER SEVEN

Things rounded up in the Black Mansion a few hours past midnight. By the time the last of the guests vacated the property, Alisha was exhausted. Hosting always managed to drain the life out of her, and the events that preceded it didn’t make her feel any better. She stood by the balcony and stared down, and the floor that was all dirty and scattered. Cleaners were already clearing it up and come morning, the place would be spotless, that no trace of the festivities would remain. Alisha slipped out of her shoes and left them there. She walked barefoot to her room. From her husband’s room, she heard giggles from her husband’s room and gritted her teeth. She waited for the wave of anger to consume her, and make her act out, but nothing came. It was not that she wasn’t mad; far from it. It was that all her energy was now focused on making sure she paid him back, and for that, she could endure some indignation. However, she told him she didn’t want to see him in her house and would give him till morning. If he was still her come morning, she was going to get her men to throw him out. She walked into her room and collapsed onto the bed. Something dug into her back and she yelped. Laying on it as if in ambush for her was a red box tied with a white ribbon. Alisha picked it up and opened it. “What in the hell?” Sudden laughter burst out of her uncontrollably. This was gold. Absolutely gold. “Oh, Kyle. I don’t know how it took me this long to see you for the fool you are.” Laying inside the box was a tennis bracelet studded with diamonds; an insignificant gift on its own but rendered even more so by the fact that Alisha had seen this same one on Charlie's wrist on an i********: post some days ago. How did she know it was the same one? Because the bracelet had the same design as the one she had seen on Charlie’s hands. When she turned it around, CC was engraved into the band. They weren’t even hiding it at this point. He thought he had her cornered, but Kyle didn’t understand something; a cornered dog had nothing to do but bite. Alisha felt the rage beginning to build up from the pit of her stomach. Her head felt like it would explode with the pressure of her anger, and her hands that held the bracelet began to tremble. She stood up and peeled the gown down her body. From her bedroom window, Los Angeles sprawled around her like a slumbering giant. By this time of the morning, which was still part of the night, LA was peaceful. Cars still drove around, and parties were still alive, but it still managed to look peaceful. Alisha liked her life and, so far, she had thought it to be great. But it was nice to be proven wrong before it was too late. This way, she could correct her mistakes. The first thing she did was to call her head of security. Jim picked up on the first ring. “Ma’am,” “Hey Jim. Do we still have any stragglers?” “No Ma’am. Cleared them all out before 3 am.” “Good work Jim.” “All in a day’s work, Ma’am,” Alisha smiled at that. Jim had been in the position for as long as she could remember. She had grown up with his face constantly in the household. Not only was he excellent at his job that her father had kept him on for decades, but she also trusted him implicitly. He handled all new hires and eliminated all threats to the family. She had one for him now. “Come morning, Jim, if Kyle is still on my property, I want him to be removed. Nine am latest.” A beat passed between them. “Do we have an understanding?” “Yes ma’am. It will be done.” “Thank you, Jim. Have a good night.” The next number she dialed was her lawyers. Mina picked up on the second ring. “Hey Lish. Who died for you to be calling by this hour?” “How f****d was the prenup between Kyle and I? I remember asking you to be lenient with it. Is it f****d beyond repair?” “Nothing is ever f****d beyond repair, Lish. You should know that.” Mina’s voice had taken on a hard edge. She was all business now. “He has some access to the share of Black Corp. About 2% holding.” Alisha sucked in a breath. For an empire worth billions of naira, 2% was no small thing.” “However, you know, I have an innate trust of men. When I was drafting your marriage contract, I inputted a clause about infidelity. Was I right to have done it?” Alisha wished that Mina was in front of her right now, so she could plant a big kiss on her cheeks. “I could kiss you right now, Mina.” Mina chuckled. “I think I’ll settle for you telling me how much of a genius I am. I hate to be right, by the way, Lish. I'm sorry he’s such a bastard. What do you want me to do?” “Thanks Mira. For now, I don't want you to let anyone know about that clause. Let him think he’s going to cushion himself with my money. I want you to start strategically kicking him out of operations. I already told Sean to wire some money to him. I also told Kyle to go to the penthouse. Every other asset he has access to, revoke them all. We will have a sit down soon and discuss more. I’ll let you go to bed now. Good night, Mira.” The sound of the call ending filled the silence as Alisha climbed onto her bed and laid down. The future was starting to take form in her mind. It had been long since she had hyperfocused on a goal. Guess she should thank her husband for giving her something to do.
