It Was The Shape Of A "X"

After dropping off Brooke and Chassidy from the party, I proceeded to go home. As we enter the house Kent stops shortly after walking through the door. He turns to me and says 

" Your not gonna yell at me or anything ? You have been quiet the whole ride home."

" I looked at him confused "What are you talking about Kent ?" I asked. 

He gave me a weird look and said " Me going to the party.....sneaking out the house? Are you that mad to the point of silent treatment?" 

I had completely forgotten about that. After meeting Savino all I could think about was him. 

" Honestly I'm just trying to figure what to do with you." I told him a lie. 

" Now go to your room." I said as I was going into the kitchen. He did as he was told. 

" s**t, I forgot to put the food away." I said as I put the food into the trash. 

{ I'm not even hungry anymore.}

I turn off the lights in the kitchen and living room and head upstairs to my room. As I lie down on the bed I start to think about the dream that I had, and why I thought about it when I touched Savino. 

" Tonight has just been weird overall." I said as I drifted off to sleep. 

I woke up the next morning. Surprisingly, I didn't dream about the cave like I did last night. For some reason that bothered me. But I paid it no mind as I got up to wake Kent up. 

" Kent, It's time for school." I said as I burst into his room uninvited. 

I can tell I startled him by the way he hopped up, almost causing him to fall off the bed. I could not help but laugh a little. 

" Go get ready for school." I said while giggling. 

" Oh and I'll be confiscating your Xbox and TV. As well as all other electronics for 1 month." I gave him a firm look so that he knew this wasn't a joke. 

" 1 Month?" he asked in disbelief. 

" Yes 1 month. Next time don't go sneaking and out, and definitely don't go popping random pills people give you either." I said while leaving his room. 

As I'm sitting on the couch scrolling through my phone. Kent comes down the stairs and heads for the front door. 

" I have to run some errands today, and after that I'm going to look for a job so I will probably not be home until maybe around 6 pm. I'll leave you 30$ so you can order something to eat." I said while still scrolling through my phone. 

" A job ? What do you need a job for, we're basically rich." he asked. 

" I'm getting sick of making up reasons to leave the house out to escape boredom. I'm not looking for a career or anything, just something to take up some time." I said. 

" Okay, whatever." he said as he closes the door behind him. 

{ I don't feel like cooking. I'll just go grab breakfast from somewhere.} I sat and watched TV for a while before running errands. 

I made my way to a coffee shop. { I'll just grab a muffin and a cappuccino.} I walk into the shop and place my order. After about 4 minutes my order is ready. As I'm, walking out the shop I see a man leaning against my car. His hoodie was up and he had on sunglasses. I approached the stranger who was leaning on my car like he owned it. 

"Excuse me, could you stop leaning on my car." I asked calm but firmly. As he crosses his arm a smirk came across his lips 

" Sorry, I was just taking a smoke break." he said, but he didn't move a muscle.

" So can you move out the way ? I have places to be." I said. 

" Oh, like where ?" he asked as he pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit one. I starred at him in disbelief of how rude he was being. 

" If you don't move I'm gonna call the cops." I said as I reached for my phone. 

" I am a cop." he said as he took a puff on his cigarette. 

" Let me see your badge then." I said while placing my hands on my hip. As he reached into his pockets, I noticed he had a scar on his hand. It was the shape of a "x". He then removed his hands from his pocket and said 

" Huh that's funny, I must've dropped it." while smiling. My stomach began to feel like it was in knots. All of a sudden, I started to get a really sinister vibe from this guy. And that scared the hell out of me. Thank god he got off my car and started walking away. I entered my car as fast as I could. I heard him yell to me 

" See you around Eva." 

{ How does he know my name ?!} 

After hearing that I became worried and scared. So many questions and thoughts entered my mind. 

{ Was that a stalker ? Did he see my name on my cappuccino ? Why did I get that feeling from him. It was nauseating. }

I sped off quickly. I wanted to get out of that area and further away from that guy as soon as possible. Trying to calm my nerves, I decided to eat the bagel I bought. I reach into the passenger seat to grab the bagel. I looked over and notice the bagel had fell onto the floor of the car. 

{ It must've fell when I sped off.}

As I look back to the road I see that the light is red and a man crossing the street. I slam on the break immediately, stopping barely an inch from the guy. I get out the car and ask him if he's ok. It was Savino. 

" Oh my god, Vinny right ? I'm so sorry are you ok. " I asked worryingly. 

" I'm fine." he said as he placed his hand on the hood of my car. 

" So I save you last night, and today you try to thank me by running me down." he said as he looked at me. 

"It was an accident ! It's not like I could tell it was you ?" I replied. 

{ Why is he being like this ?}

He burst out laughing. I look at him confused. 

" I'm just joking" he said as his laughing calms down. 

I took a deep breath " It's not funny I could have hurt you." I said. " Get in the car." I added. 

He got in without any hesitation. As I began to drive off I asked 

" Where were you going?" 

"I was on my way to a meeting." he replied. 

" A meeting ? But your dressed so casual. " I asked. 

" Well, it's actually a family meeting. I'm taking over the family business." he said. 

" Wow really ? You look a little.." I stopped not wanting to offend him. 

" A little what ?" he asked as he turned his head to look at me. 

" How old are you ?" I asked. 

" 20." he replied. 

" Isn't that a little young too be taking over a business?" I asked. 

" In normal circumstances you would be correct." he said as he turned his gaze back to the road.

" What makes it not a normal circumstance ?" I asked

He made the same pained expression he gave me at the party yesterday. 

{ F*ck, me and my big mouth.} 

" I'm prying again, sorry." I said. 

" My father died." he said. 

" And as his son, it's my duty to finish what he started." 

" I'm sorry for your loss." I stated. 

" Thank you." he said while looking at me. His eyes were full of sincerity. 

" So, where is your family meeting at ? I can take you there." I said. 

" You really don't have too." he replied. 

" I insist. I did almost kill you today, it's the least I can do." I said. 

He smiled at me and said " If you insist." 

At that moment my heart began to flutter. Something about the way he looks at me. He looks at me as if I were precious to him. Like he cares for me deeply. Or maybe I'm  just imagining things. 

" The meeting is at my house. We can go there after." he said. 

" After where ?" I asked. 

" After we go get something to eat. " he replied with a smile.

" Is this your way of asking me out ?" I asked quietly. 

"Is that alright with you?" He asked 

I began to blush and nod.

Savino suggested that we go to a local diner that he liked. At this point anything sounded good to me. I still hadn't eaten yet. We head into the diner and shortly after, the waitress comes over to take our orders. 

"So how old are you ? I never got to ask. " Savino asked.

" I'm 18." I replied.

" Do you work or go to school ?" he asked.

" Neither" I answered.

"Any siblings ?" he asked.

" I have a younger brother." I answered.

" Do you have any siblings ?" I asked.

" I have a brother...we haven't spoke in a while." he answered.

" Sorry to hear that." I said.

" I'm not" he said as he shot me a look.

At that moment my stomach started to knot up, just like earlier. I felt the same sinister feeling that  felt from the man who was leaning on my car.

{ Is that Savino making me feel like this? It has to be, the moment he looked at me I became overcome with this feeling.}

I tried my best to keep my composure. Not wanting to freak Savino out.

" So you still live at home ?" he asked.

" What do you mean ?" I asked.

" Well you don't work or go to school so, do you live at home ? With your parents ?" he asked.

" Why are you asking so many questions !?" I blurted out without meaning to.

{Why the hell did I say that ?}

His eyes became full of regret.

" I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you." he said.

" You don't have to answer if you don't want to." he added.

" I didn't need to snap on you like that, I'm sorry. It's just...it's still a sensitive topic." I said regretfully.

" My parents went missing." I said softly

The look on Savino's face grew confused. He looked baffled.

" Your parents are missing ?" he asked appallingly.

" Yes." I answered. 

He sat back in his chair and starred off into space. After about 2 minutes he shot me a look. That's when the knotting intensified. I felt like I was actually gonna puke.

" Excuse me for a moment." I said as I got up and entered the restroom.

I rushed to the sink and began to wash off my face. I tried to focus on my breathing and calm my nerves. I cup my face with my hands. When I looked up into the mirror I couldn't believe what I saw. My Left eye was glowing a vibrant gold color. My mind immediately flashed back to the hand that I saw at the end of my dream.

{ What the f*ck is going on? I'm going insane}

I began to throw water on my face like crazy. To the point where my shirt sleeves are drenched. I look back up into the mirror, and my eye looks normal. I forced myself to believe it was all in my head. I just wanted to get back and finish my meal with Savino. Overall I just needed to convince myself that I wasn't going crazy. I dry off my sleeves as much as I could under the air dryer and returned to the table. Our food had been brought to us while I was in the restroom. Savino looked at me and said

" Are you ok ?" he asked.

" Yea I'm fine, sorry I got light headed." I lied. I didn't want him to worry.

" I actually got a call and I have to go now." he replied,

" What happened ? Is everything alright ?" I asked

" Just some new information came up and it needs to be addressed asap." he said as he stood up.

" Ok, we can leave now then." I replied.

" I was gonna call a cab." he said.

" No need, let's go I replied.

He obliged and payed for the food we didn't eat, and we head to the car. Once we enter the car I ask him

" Where is the meeting at." I asked as I buckled my seatbelt.

" Old Mill road." he answered.

{ That road sounds familiar. }

" Alright." I said as I drive off from the diner parking lot.

We make our way up Old Mill road. The drive took around 45 minutes. We arrived at a mansion and vinny hops out of the car.

" It's best if you stay here, I'll be right back." he said as he rushed into the house.

About 15 minutes passed and i get the urge to use the bathroom.

{ I'm sure it's not problem if I ask to use the bathroom right ?}

I get out the car and approach the front door. I knock a few times but didn't receive an answer. I grab the doorknob and notice that it's unlocked. I slowly open the door, and make my way inside.

" Hello ?" I called out.

" I just need to use the bathroom.." I said.

The house was very dark. It looked old and rugged. Almost like this place had been abandoned for years. I approach the nearest door, I can hear voices coming from the other side.

" Does she know where it is ?" I hear a voice say.

" I don't think she has any idea what she is." 

{ That's Savino's voice.}

" That is the least of our concerns. Your job is to retrieve the Ruby. And to get it by any means necessary, even if you have to kill her." the voice said in a demanding tone.

{ Kill who ? What Ruby ? What the f*ck is going on ?} 

My heart began to beat erratically. I had no idea what was going on but that didn't sound like a regular business meeting talk. As I turned around to head back to the front door, I notice a portrait on the wall, it was damaged and the faces looked like they were torn off. As I'm examining the photo I noticed one of the men in the photo had a scar on his hand. It was the shape of a "x".
