THE NEW STUDENT
Michael led the way. We turned the corner, moving past the library, which I couldn’t stop looking into. But I wasn’t looking at the library. I was distracted and wondered whether Joseph could see it. Claudia Belle had left me wondering over her. I wanted to seek her out. She was the only thing on my mind. Our strange energies intrigued me.
Michael must have noticed my interest and simply said: “That’s our library. I know what you’re thinking. Yes, it’s quite small, but don’t let it fool you. We have an impressive selection.”
“Very nice.” Joseph said, which was his way of saying he wasn’t interested, or impressed.
We continued down the hallway, then, took the stairwell up to the second floor that was near the entrance to the courtyard. I could see the ROTC students g
