After spending a good amount of time at Nala's place, she decided to leave. All that Nala had said to her was so overwhelming. She realized that there were many things that she didn't know about the person she claimed to be her mate.
She didn't want to go home yet. She didn't want to let her parents know that she was rejected by Alpha Ryker. They held their hopes high when she told them that she was mated to Alpha Ryker. They had imagined what it would be to be called the in-law of a powerful Alpha like Alpha Ryker. She can't go home and tell them that things didn't work out as they had expected. She didn't think she could stand the look of disappointment on their faces, especially her mother, who had already planned how she would get close to Alpha Ryker by all means, so he would change their house or let them live in the pack house. Thus she decided to wander in the woods for a while, to clear her head from all that had happened to her.
As she wandered through the woods, she stumbled upon a clearing and collapsed on the large boulder. Tears cascaded down her cheeks like a river of sorrow, leaving glistening trails on her pale skin. Her heart felt like a heavy stone, weighed down by the crushing sorrows that threatened to consume her. She pushed back the revelation that Nala had revealed to her. It was none of her business after all. What hurts was the rejection. She had thought that the pack would oppose Alpha Ryker's rejection. Even though she was an Omega, she knows that many people loved her and always sang her praises, including the elders, but they all agreed to his words without opposing his decisions. She cried louder than before. The sound echoed through the trees, a lonely cry that seemed to reverberate back to her, a reminder of her isolation. She cried to the point that she couldn't cry again. She did have some strength in her.
Days passed, and Sophia's heart remained heavy. She avoided the pack, even though she was supposed to be cleaning as she was meant to be. She wasn't sure that she would be able to handle and face their judgmental gazes. Her parents, though well-meaning, only added to her distress with their attempts to console her. All she ever did was lock herself in her room and cry. She decided to find a job. It was actually her father's idea. They wanted her to heal and move on from what happened. She took his advice and she was able to secure a job in the bakery not too far from her house.
One evening, after work, Sophia strolled towards her usual spot. She was seated on the particular on the same large boulder that she had sat on the day of her rejection. As night began to fall, a silhouette emerged from the shadows. It was a familiar face. Marcus. He was Alpha Ryker's advisor. He approached Sophia with an air of solemnity. Since his rank was higher than hers, he deserved her respect and that was what she did. She stood up from the boulder to greet him.
“Greetings, Marcus” she greeted and he nodded his head in response.
"Sophia, I know you're hurting, but I come bearing a solution," he said, his voice low and measured. "A contract marriage with a neighboring pack's Alpha, will secure our pack's alliance and protect our future. You know the man. He is Alpha Adrian Blackwell. You would have seen him around Alpha Ryker a number of times.”
She doesn't know him, but she couldn't make a fool out of the king's advisor, thus she nodded her head, claiming that she had seen him.
Sophia's instincts screamed warning, but desperation clouded her judgment.
“Would you like to do it?” Marcus asked, desperately waiting for an answer.
Taking a deep breath, she agreed to the arrangement, hoping to find solace in the union.
“Yes, Marcus. I will do it,” she answered and he creased his brows in confusion. He wasn't expecting her to agree so easily. Either way, he was glad that she did.
Marcus, after relaying the Alpha's message to Sophia, took to his heels as he walked back to the carriage that was waiting for him. He couldn't wait to relay the message to Alpha Ryker. In less than an hour, he got to the pack house and he walked straight to Alpha Ryker's chambers. He knocked and after some seconds, he was asked to come in and he did. Alpha Ryker stood beside the window, its panes reflecting the turmoil in his eyes like a dark mirror, his broad shoulders squared against the weight of his regret.
“How did it go?” Alpha Ryker asked, without turning around to face Marcus.
“She agreed to do it without any hesitation. She agreed so easily. She sounded so happy about it, your Majesty,” Marcus answered.
Alpha Ryker felt jealousy gnawing at his heart. He couldn't believe that she would agree so easily, but at the same time, he was happy to know that she agreed. He wanted to see her happy, since she can't be happy with him. Ever since he rejected her, he hadn't been himself. He wanted her back, but he can't do anything about it. He already has a Luna.
When Alpha Adrian came up with the idea of taking Sophia as his mate, Alpha Ryker wanted to turn down the idea. He didn't want to send Sophia out of the pack, but since Alice was with them, he didn't say anything. He just nodded his head in agreement, pretending that he was fine with it.
Heaven knows that he regrets taking Alice as his mate. She lacks any of those attributes required of a Queen and Luna. She was the extravagant type, who always wanted to live a lavish life. She didn't even care about the affairs of the pack. She just didn't care about anyone, not even Alpha Ryker. All she wanted was to live an extravagant life, go shopping, get luxurious bags, clothes, shoes and every other thing that a woman loves. He blames her father for not training her in the right way.
He regrets rejecting Sophia because of her rank, but now he doesn't care anymore. He wanted her back, but it was already late. He had gone to meet the Elders, to let them know that he wanted to send Alice away and take Sophia, but the elders had told him that it wasn't accepted. They had told him that if he ventures to send Alice away and take Sophia back, that they would appoint another Alpha. He didn't want that to happen at all. His late father would be mad at him if he lets the throne slip through his hands.
Thus, he decided to endure Alice until he came up with a good idea to send her away, but now that Alpha Adrian had come for her, it dawned on Alpha Ryker that it was already late. There was nothing he could do.
“It is for the best, Marcus, I want to see her happy. I am glad that she agreed. What about her parents? Did they agree too?”
“Yes, your Majesty. They were the one that even showed me where she was,”
He was relieved to know that her parents agreed to it. Normally, Alpha Adrian would have gone to meet Sophia and her parents, but it wasn't a right thing to do. In this case, since they were under the governance of Alpha Ryker, that was why he went to Alpha Ryker.
“I hope she finds happiness with him. The happiness that I couldn't give her. At least Adrian doesn't care that she is an Omega. She would be happy with him,”
