She scratched the trees, leaving claw marks as a way of marking the way back. The forest was dense and the only scents around were pine and maple. She couldn't smell any other human aside from Nigel. The drugs they gave her yesterday must have messed with her sense of smell since she found it hard to pick up animal scents. There was no path that might lead them outside and the deeper she went, the more she felt lost. Finally, Bella gave up and started back. Maybe Nigel had found something. They'd decided to go in different directions to see if there was a way out or if they could find another cave that was inhabitable. She still couldn't believe Beverly had drugged her and left her there. Clearly, they were trying to bring her and Nigel together but she didn't think they would go so far. H
