ASHLEY’S POV The red wine soaked all the way to my skin. I gasped. My breath caught in my throat. Gasps filled the room. People started whispering. My heart hammered so loudly I could barely hear them, but I knew what they were saying. “She’s ruined.” “Did you see that? What a mess.” “Look at that dress.” I froze, paralyzed by shame. My hands trembled uselessly above the huge stain. My throat burned, but before the tears could come, I felt warmth. It was Jason. He shot up from his seat immediately and before I knew it, he was in front of me. He shrugged off his black suit jacket and wrapped it over me. The gesture was protective. It was like a shield from the stares and whispers. “Don’t,” he said softly “Don’t let them get to you. You’re fine. You’re with me. It's just a stain.
