ASHLEY’S POV The field was finally empty. The noise from the game had died down. Everywhere was silent. I made my way toward the parking lot. My bag was heavy on my shoulder, stuffed with papers for the charity match and half a water bottle I’d forgotten about earlier. For a moment, I let myself breathe, thinking the chaos of the day was behind me. I thought about everything that had happened today – the charity game rehearsal, Jason’s flirting, Lucas’s temper, Kathy’s accusations, all of it. But then a shadow moved near the bleachers. I froze.
