Adrian's face remained expressionless, but his eyes ran over her face, trying to determine whether she was lying to him or not. She was easy to read, and he could see that she was truly scared.
"You should have told me instead of doing what you did," he snapped. "Do you know how much damage that did to me? I'm glad I'm standing here in spite of that. It would have really destroyed me."
Simone wrung her hands nervously.
"I didn't want you to get involved with those people. They seemed very dangerous, and I thought that by doing what they wanted, they'd leave us alone. But then I watched that video this evening, and that's when I knew they weren't going to leave us alone no matter what they made us do. They really want to hurt you, Adrian."
