Chapter 86: Starting life in another world

My name is Kishimoto Kaede, 14 years old. A young maiden and my hobby is playing VRMMORPG especially the game called Fantasy world online. It was the summer cup and were going to the finals. That’s what I thought, I suddenly woke up in this unknown world.
This might be the thing they called Isekai.
Another world similar to my own, but not really. Animals in this world are different. Dangerous monsters existed along with adventurers. This is a world of swords and sorcery. Without a doubt, this is a fantasy world.
I’m a fan of anime. I’m quite fond of these settings already. But to think that I’m going to be transported to another world is still unbelievable. Totally, unbelievable.
Why I’m transported? Why I’m here? What happened in my real world? My house, My friends…
I missed them already.
Thus, I wrote in my journal.
It's already night and it's already been two weeks since I arrived in this city.

I’m stuck in this place.
I closed m journal and placed it under the table. Despite living in this kind of world. I was happy that electricity was available. There is no smartphone here or internet. Television existed but we don’t have anything like that in this house.
The house I’m currently staying in is small but comfortable. If I can measure this place. I can say that this house was the same size as six tatami mats. There is no bed. Shun just placed a big futon on the floor and sleep.
Where am I sleeping? You asked. It's simple. I’m sleeping right beside Shun. I’m glad I’m able to meet Shun. Without him, I don’t know where I am right now. He is quite nice to let me in without paying.
“Hey, Kaede can you put off the candle?”
“Sure.”
Candles cost money so we can’t just waste them.
I blow the light from the candle and lay down on the futon. I covered myself with a blanket and face opposite to Shun.
I hope tomorrow is a better day.

“Stretching… Stretching…”
I mumble as I stretch my both arms upwards. The sky was still dark. The atmosphere was still chilly.
Normally, I won’t be waking up early this morning. I’m not an early person. I wanted to take my time and sleep. Not having proper sleep is bad for the skin.
But I can’t do that.
Shun also wakes up very early in the morning. He's going out helping the farm and finding some sidelines to earn some more money.
His truly a diligent person. He has my respect.
I get my bag and go to the main city. It's still chilly running on the street. I covered my neck with a scarf. Currently, I’m working as a part-timer in the flower shop. I have to wake up early for preparation.
I don’t want to cause too much trouble in Shun. That’s why I immediately find a job to help him out. Also, this is an opportunity to learn more about this world.
After learning much information about this world. Maybe, I’ll find my way back to my world.
“Good morning Kaede… Early today huh?”
Greeted my Mister Oak.
“Good morning, mister Oak. I’m responsible for the opening and morning shifts. I can’t let down Miss Viola’s expectation. She accepted me despite being a foreigner after all.”
“Well, that a great thing… How about Shun? Where is he?”
“He's already on the farm.”

Mister Oak leaves after teasing me.
I only see Shun as a friend. I think he also did see me as a friend. Well, he's reliable and put me at ease. He's not a p*****t or anything. If there’s something that troubled me. It's the girl that stares at Shun with a sharp glare.
Living here for a while I found out that Shun doesn’t have much social credibility. Only a few people talked to him. Some people fully ignored him or worst laugh at him. Shun just ignore them and do nothing. I wanted to talk to Shun about this, but I think it's too personal.
I don’t dare to know him better. That’s for now, As a friend, I better know him to fully understand him. That’s what friends do after all.
“I need to go… I can’t be late.”
I run to the main city to the flower shop. After preparing the flowers and doing m duty until afternoon. I said goodbye to Miss viola and goes to the library.
I wanted to know more about this place. I borrow books and stud them at home. Still, it's too hard for me.
The writing in this book. Looks like random scribbles on my eyes.
While checking the book. I accidentally bump into a little girl. The little girl landed on her butt. Worried to her, I immediately reach my hand on her.
“I’m sorry… Are you okay?”
She nodded in reply.
She looks very shy.
She stands up and turns her eyes to the book slightly higher than her. With her current height, there is no way of her reaching the book.
Realizing, I get the book for her and hand it over to her with a smile.
“Here you go.”

“Do you like books?”

Seems like she doesn’t want to talk to me. She gets the book in my hand and then turns around. She runs away and hides behind a man. A man wearing glasses. His tall and looks like someone in his twenties.
“Miyu… You should say something to your big sister. What did I teach you?”
“...”
“Say something…”
“...”
The little girl called Miyu stepped forward. Slowly she lifted her head on me. I smile at her while at it.
I don’t want to scare her.
“T-Thank… Y-You….”
Her voice was a sweet and low tone. After saying those words she immediately runs away from us.
“Hey! Miyu!… She’s so shy, I don’t know what to do with her. Building self-confidence is necessary… I’m sorry about my sister's impolite attitude.”
“Don’t sweat it… It's quite sweet. Also. She tried her best to talk to me despite her being so shy. I was like that before. As result, I only have a few friends.”
“Is that so? Well, but having a few friends is fine. That means you only have a few problems… I’m always seeing you here. Are you not in school.”
“Same to you. If you’re seeing me always here that means you’re also not in school.”
“That’s correct… The library is the only way for me to have some basic knowledge. School is for wealthy people only. We’re only poor after all.”
He said like he was joking.
“I see… Then, you knew about the basic knowledge right?”
“I’m not that smart but I do read a lot… Compare to average people that don’t go to school. Maybe I’m smarter… Just a little bit.”
“Then, can you please teach me how to read and write?”
“Eh? You’re getting a book you can’t read… Pff... Hahahaha… You’re quite a funny girl. Since I have nothing to do at all. I teach you how to read and write.”
“Really! Hoo-ray!”
“Shhhhhh… We’re still in the library please be silent. The librarian will be angry with us.”
I gasp and immediately covered my mouth with but of my hands.
“My name is Eugene.”
“I’m Kaede.”
“That’s usual.”
“Many people said the same thing. I’m from another land and I’m just starting to learn things for me to go back home.”
“I see… Let me help you. I don’t have many things to do today. I’ll teach you the basic vowels first and the basic words.”
Eugene helped me on that day on how to read and write a few characters. I can’t fully read one sentence yet. But knowing how to write “Kaede” in these characters is quite fulfilling.
The sun is about fall again and I needed to come back. I waved my hand to Eugene and Miyu.
I returned to slumps back to Shun’s house.
I made another friend, I’m quite lucky today.
I feel like I’m a step closer to my goal.
While I’m heading back home. In the mini bride, a girl was standing. Before I came across the ridge. She blocked my path and approached me.
Looking at her face. I remember her. She is the girl that glaring at Shun. Why she’s looking at me with a worried face?
“I’m sorry to tell you this… But you should not further stay with Shun.”
“Why is that? Shun is a nice man…”
“This is for your safety… Shun is not what he seems to be.”
“I don’t want to listen to word coming from a girl that glares at him almost every day…”
“No! I’m seriously worried…”
Her body gesture feels uneasy. She is averting her eye’s on me. I feel like I can’t rely on the word she’s talking about.
“Would you excuse me? I want to cross.”

She won’t get out if I don’t confront her.
