Alina's POV
"Meds, get me the meds!" Jayce yelled as we got to the facility.
Sam, one of our agents was seriously bleeding out. He had been cut by one of the werewolves. He could have been dead but thank God I showed up on time.
"Get me the scissors," one of the meds said.
Everyone was moving swiftly and panicking. Me? I was filled with joy, I got my first kill only, I couldn't express my happiness.
"Ali, will you please help me hold him and stop stargazing?" Jayce said.
I snapped like I had been unconscious and ran over to the table, I grabbed Sam's wrist and held him down, and Jayce grabbed Sam's other arm and held him too. Jayce then covered Sam's mouth with his other hand.
We both held him as the meds tried to stitch him up. I couldn't even imagine the pain he felt because the cut was pretty deep. If the werewolf's claws went just a little bit deeper, I'm sure he would have touched his bone.
Blood was all over the place, Sam was passing out, the meds were tearing Sam up, and the rest of us were tense.
After some minutes, the meds were done stitching Sam up but he already passed out. They use a defibrillator to try and resuscitate him but after a couple of tries, Sam doesn't wake up.
"We are sorry sir but we lost him, he already lost too much blood," the head of the meds said.
"Yeah, thanks. Get the cleaners to clean this place up and bag the body." Jayce said.
"Yes sir," Chris answered and ran to collect the cleaners.
"You all should go and wash yourselves, shower up, and eat something, we will meet back up by eight pm this night, in the meeting room," Jayce said.
Everyone left immediately without saying a word, with chins down and exhausted movements.
It was already time for the meeting and the alarm was sounded as usual before every training or meeting session.
We gathered in the room, everyone remained quiet for a few seconds.
"We lost two agents today," Jayce said as he stood up.
Everyone remained quiet.
"One on the field then, Sam. The sooner we drop these people, the better," He said.
He walked to and fro then made a stop and turned to me.
"How did you kill the one you killed, Ali? Because I'm sure that wasn't just a silver bullet," he asked.
Then I stood up.
"I've been doing research alongside the researchers. Since the silver bullets couldn't take them down anymore. We thought about mixing gunpowder with wolfsbane since silver bullets slow them down," I couldn't finish my explanation when I saw the way everyone was staring at me and were all tight-lipped.
"What's, what's wrong?" I asked.
Everyone started applauding me, I felt great relief.
"How did we not think about something so easily feasible?" Jayce asked.
"Well, you guys don't talk to researchers enough, maybe," I said.
"We lost two agents today but on the positive, we got the Alpha. Yes, the Alpha, all thanks to Alina," Jayce said.
I was surprised and filled with joy, I never would have believed that my first kill would be an Alpha.
Everyone took turns shaking my hand, it was like the news lifted everyone's mood.
Jacob got to me and instead of shaking me like everyone else.
"Alpha hunter," he whispered with a smile on his face then patted me on my back.
"Who said the meeting was over?" Jayce shouted.
Everyone quickly returned to the room and sat back down.
"We are not trading two lives for one now. We now have an efficient way of killing them, so I expect the ratio to be higher in our favor from now on," Jayce said.
"Yes sir," everyone cheered.
"There'll be no training tomorrow, we will bury our lost ones tomorrow and pay tribute to them. The meeting is officially over." Jayce said.
Everyone stood up to leave and so did I.
"Ali, wait behind," Jayce said.
We both remained quiet till everyone had left then, Jayce asked. "Why didn't you come to me with your discovery?"
"I wasn't sure if it would work, it was just an idea I gave the researchers and worked on it with them. So, I thought I should test it on them before letting you know," I replied.
"Well, you did well but next time you should let me know about things like this, we maybe wouldn't have lost two people today," Jayce said.
"I am sorry sir," I replied.
"But damn, that shot was just too clean, whew! I had thought I brought everyone for a m******e when I saw that the silver bullets weren't killing them. You were some sort of a glimmer of hope too, if not to us then to me," Jayce said.
"You are too good with this speech thing," I said, chuckling.
"It's what I do every now and then, it's only proper I'm good at it," Jayce said.
"Keep working on your range and aim, you can only get better, you know," Jayce said.
"Yes sir," I replied.
"For now, keep doing what you are doing. Alpha Hunter." He whispered.
"What's with the title? Jacob also said the same thing," I asked.
"Maybe it's because it's true," he said and chuckled.
"How many of them have you killed?" I asked.
"I said get going," he replied.
"Oh, we are keeping secrets now? I'll make sure I tell the researchers not to tell you s**t," I said and started walking away.
I got to the door when I heard Jayce's voice.
"107," he said.
Not surprised actually, Jayce has been around long enough to have killed that many werewolves. He is one of the founders of the UA so, I wasn't surprised.
I wasn't even allowed to go with the team to the fight, how did I get here?
So, after training yesterday I had left to eat and of course, I slept off, when I woke it was four noon. So, I chose to go to the gym centre to keep myself fit when I saw everyone preparing to go for the mission.
Jayce walked up to me. "You will come with us. Not really but in a way" he said.
"Okay?" I replied, waiting for details.
"You will be some sort of backup for us on this mission. Should it happen that we have a man down, can I trust you to be ready to back us up?" He asked.
"Yes sir," I replied.
I was so excited and anxious, I quickly got into the dressing room and dressed up like everyone else.
It was getting dark when everyone left, so I got on a bike. I learned how to ride a bike when I was fifteen. My parents always wanted me to know how to ride vehicles. So, they usually took me for driving lessons on weekends.
I was on the bike for like an hour and didn't get a call. So, I got to the shooting room to keep my range and aim sharp and in check.
After some rounds of shooting at bottles and papers, a call came into the walkie-talkie.
"Alina, I want you here right now. Follow the map on your tab, there's a GPS tracker on us, it will show you where we are," Jayce said.
"Copy," I replied.
Finally, my time. I was so excited and pumped up. I hopped on the bike and rode as fast as I could.
It took me just a few minutes to get there. It was a camp like the one me and my parents were in before they were killed only, more people lived there. When I was on my way I could remember people being taken toward the facility in vehicles and I saw about five vehicles.
On getting there, I tried stopping the bike but it seemed like it was finding it hard to stop after the amount of speed it had been on.
I quickly jumped off the bike and tumbled on the ground and the bike went on to crash into a tree.
I was in a hurry when I left the facility, so I couldn't use a helmet. While I tumbled on the ground I felt a stick pierce my neck but I didn't care, all I had in mind was helping the squad.
Coming through the forest to the camp and where everyone was I saw one of the werewolves jump from behind a trench and right away I could recognize him.
The infamous big werewolf that attacked my mom and instantly I felt this blood rush influenced by anger inside me. Quickly, I took out my rifle which I had hung on my back.
The werewolf attacked Sam and tore his thigh with his claws. Sam then fell on his back, the werewolf was about to tear into Sam when I was done loading my gun.
I confidently aimed for his heart and shot straight at his chest. He stopped and looked at his chest as he was bleeding. I knew he would have thought that he would start to heal right away but he couldn't.
All that was left of his werewolf form were his glowing eyes and blood running down from his mouth as he fell on his back.
Jacob and Chris quickly ran to retrieve Sam while the other guy ran to the werewolf I had shot down.
I was surprised by the way he cried, maybe they were close.
The guy stood up and turned to me, he stood there and froze like had seen a ghost. I pointed my gun at him and was hoping to shoot him but I couldn't bring myself to kill that handsome face.
And for a moment my heart skipped and I felt a bit sorry for him. It was like me losing my parents, even though I didn't know who the man was to him but they looked kind of close.
"Ali, in the vehicle. Let's get out of here," Jayce said.
After the meeting we had that evening, I went into my room, showered, and cleaned up my injury. I had planned to meet the meds at the clinic the following morning before going for the funeral but when I woke up in the morning, to my surprise the injury was gone like it never happened.
I couldn't believe my eyes, the injury was gone, no pain, no signs, just gone. I thought to myself, what could possibly be wrong with me?
I rushed down to the clinic and gave them a sample to do a DNA test on me.
"Please, whatever you find, keep it between us," I said.
"No problem," the doctor replied.
I kept thinking and running through my mind then, something told me, "Isn't this an attribute of a werewolf?"
I couldn't control myself till I screamed thinking about that possibility.
Chris, who was headed to the clinic, heard my screams.
"Alina?" He called me.
"Uhmm... Hey, what's up?" I replied, trying to keep my voice steady, hoping my emotions won't betray me. I crumbled the results in my hand and squeezed it tightly in my left palm.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, yeah. I, I'm... I was just in my head and didn't know I was thinking out loud, I'm good," I said.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes, yes. I'm glad, I'll see you at the funeral, right?" I asked.
"Of course, of course, you will," he replied.
"Bye," I said.
And quickly I rushed back to my room to get ready for the funeral.
