Chapter 3- Kaden

"Kaden, I think we are too late to cover it up," Simon, one of my warriors, said. "I know, but we still need to check if we can remove some traces that could point to us," I answered. "Your father said they were sure that nobody could trace it back to our pack. But Jayce was here. You know how the UA's are. They are getting smarter." "We have no choice. What happened already happened. I couldn't undo why my father made a killing sprint last night." "I know. We are the only few who are against it." "Let's go before father finds out and before a bunch of UA comes back here." We partially shift and run into the depths of the forest. During the run, my wolf, Kero, mumbled, "Mate! Mate!" "Sshh, Kero! You have been mumbling that since earlier. You know that we are not allowed to scare the people of UA," I scolded my wolf for being so excited. "But didn't you smell her? You have been wondering who your mate was for years. And now that you found her, you are letting her go?" "Who said I am letting her go? I am just being patient, Kero. Father had made a mess, so I could not add another problem on top of that. We will find her, don't worry. At least we know where she is. Now, focus on what we need to do here." It took us an hour to complete the search. We didn't find any other death besides the graveyard near a tent. It's been ten years since my pack joined the others slaughtering humans here in Grenville. Most packs do it for the thrill. We do it to serve as training in improving our combat and speed. At least, that was what my father believed. I disagreed. I was against killing innocents and training against someone who had never been matched to us in the first place. But honestly, I was happy that UA existed. It lowered the number of deaths of human beings. However, it had become a problem for my dad. I had been cleaning most of the mess my father had created. I didn't want UA to come after us. We had been cleaning all the dead and removing our pack's traces. It was becoming more challenging as technology advanced, and the UA recruited more intellectual people. Pretty soon, we would be caught. "Are you sure we have removed all the traces?" I asked the three warriors with me. "We did our best, but the UA was here. They might have taken some samples already. But we cleaned those two dead people we found and rebury them," Simon answered. "That's good enough." "In two months, you will be eighteen. What are you planning to do about this?" "You know what I wanted to do. Now, let's go." When we arrived home, I saw my father drinking with my uncle, James, my mother's brother, who was also our Beta. He was different from my father. Sometimes, I wished he was the Alpha instead. He was more reasonable and against my father's killings as well. The Mystic Shadows pack, where I belonged, was considered the strongest among all packs of werewolves. We were intelligent, fast, and brutal as well. Others feared us because we were all skilled in combat, haunting, and often ruthless and heartless. Humans used to praise us because we used to be good and did not act like animals. Now, they could curse and spit on all werewolves, making them feel like they were never safe. Werewolves like us would prey against them. Somehow, they had become food not for our stomach but for fun. And it was one of the saddest reasons to die. In fairness to us, the Mystic Shadows were not the first to kill humans just for the thrill. We were almost the last to join that kind of activity. We did it because my father was a greedy son of a b***h that didn't want to be called weak just because he didn't want to kill humans. So, he turned out to be the worst killer among them. And since then, he could not stop the killing frenzy. "How was it, son? I told you I was nice this time. I killed only a woman in that forest," Chance, my father, said with a smile. "That woman might be a mother to a child. You just turned a child into an orphan," I replied, not hiding my irritation. "That's why orphanages existed. To house those kids without parents. It's not our problem to take care of them. We are even paying taxes." "Do you even hear yourself? How many times have I told you to stop killing innocent people!" "Kaden, you can't be that angry with your father. I was just having fun. What is wrong with that?" "Killing innocent people is not fun, dad! It's like killing tiny cubs in this pack. They didn't do anything to offend you or hurt you. Why do you have to sentence them to die? I am done cleaning your mess! I will be turning eighteen in a few months. I will be Alpha, and this has to stop." "Who said you will be, Alpha? I am still alive and strong to rule this pack. Don't upset me too much, Kaden. Or else, I might not consider you for replacing me. Even if I am your father, I could still choose someone else. And it will just break your mother's heart for you, bringing shame to our family." "Like as if you have not broken her heart several times already," I yelled and stormed out of the living room. I hated him so much. He was no longer the father I knew. He was now a monster. I couldn't control my anger toward him, so I decided to run. "Are you in for another run, Kero?" "Sure!" We ran and made five lapses on the soccer field close to my house. When we were done, that girl with Jayce earlier came to mind. I remembered the way she looked. Her brown, almond eyes screamed with confusion, sadness, and pain. She had been into something traumatic. I could feel it, and it almost hurt me, too. She was tall with that blonde mermaid curly hair. She was stunning despite looking a little bit skinny. But why was she with Jayce? I had never heard Jayce had a daughter. She didn't also look like him. 'Is she his wife? Impossible! She was young. Wait! Is she Chris's or Jacob's girl? It doesn't matter. I am going to take her,' I thought. If there was something I would fight tooth and nail with, it's taking my mate. I would not let anyone ever come against me. She was destined for me by the moon goddess. Therefore, she belonged to me. "Want to go for another round, Kero?" "Yes! I loved running. Let's go!" I went for another five lapses as I started to feel angry that I couldn't have my mate. The wolf bond was beginning to control my emotions, and I couldn't let it. I needed to be patient for now. I couldn't afford to wage war with the UA. Not now that my father was not yet cleared from all his killings. "I will see you soon. And when I do, I will not let you go. No one could ever stop me from having you. Not the UA, not Jayce, not even my father, so wait for me," I murmured.
