The office was quiet, the usual hum of activity reduced to the faint ticking of the clock on the wall. I stretched my fingers, flexing the stiffness out of them before returning to the screen. It was already 7:30 PM. I had been at this for over an hour past my shift, but I was determined to finish. Victoria’s assignment had been tedious, designed to drain me, but I had powered through it. There was no way I was leaving it for tomorrow, not when my entire day was already packed with meetings and errands for Martin. He had a packed schedule, and so did I. If I left this work undone, I would be drowning by midday and that was exactly what Victoria wanted—to set me up for failure. Not happening!
