CHAPTER THREE-1

CHAPTER THREE Jamelia lay on the university bed in her dorm doing a yoga session. The candles were lit. Aromatic, and spies’ herbs were burning by the bedside. The music was the rainforest’s sounds of the flowing river waters, the singing birds, crickets, and frogs. She swung to the side and bent, stretching and touching her toes. Remaining in that position for some time. She then sat up straight. She breathed in. Then breathed out. Then repeated the same with the other leg. Instantly the door swung open. Ligita stood at the door. She apologized while entering as she tip-toed. “I was not expecting you until late in the afternoon,” said Jamelia. “I got my research topic today, and it is harder than I had anticipated,” she said. Then she sat on Jamelia’s bed. “What is the research topic about?” “The longest established institutions, how they have survived this long, what secrets if any we can know about them, and what we can learn from them,” she replied. “Many you can choose from. So, what do you have in mind?” “I am spoiled for choice between monarchies and governments.” She paused. “Sounds easy.” “I know, but you need something challenging with secrets not revealed even up to now. We know everything about monarchies and governments. Right?” “But monarchies could be a good topic,” she said. “Even more interesting could be banks. In that, all monarchies and government’s secrets have been exposed one way or the other. Bank’s secrets are still guarded and yet to be exposed. We also do have some very long-established banks. Most created at a time, so dark in history where things like slavery flourished. So many secrets to hide and even to kill for. Do you know that the devil worshippers are associated with the most profitable banks? All secret cults belong or at least have links to banks? Imagine actually revealing something along those lines for real?” “That could be a risky subject to poke my nose into. As this will mean setting a collisional path with the people who guard these secrets and as far as I know most get killed in the process,” she argued. Ligita sat back on Jamelia’s bed. “I think you are right. But more interesting along those lines are the rumors that the gatekeeper stole the bank’s list of all the devil worshippers before his body was found weeks later in a badly decomposed state?” “Really?” “The interesting part is that he stole the list, disobeying the cult’s protocol meaning threatening to destroy the cult. A cult that existed even before this world was created and all this for love. Just imagine? To destroy such a cult just for pure romance. I bet that woman is someone very special. Someone to die for. That is true love. Love that not only move mountains. But one that destroys thousands-year-old cults and institutions. That my friend is something worth writing about. If it is a novel. It will be a bestseller. But I guess they kill too for such revelations?” They all looked at each other for a while. “I will see what I can do?” “What about you? What is your dissertation about?” “We submit projects. I am trying to find the most lethal digital watermark and or pathogen known to mankind. One that can be used as a weapon to save thousands of the soldiers’ lives. Instead of going to war. They can simply use these digital weapons.” “Digital pathogens and watermarks? I thought these were banned and outlawed? Surely there must be laws against making these especially considering the lethal effects,” she protested. “What’s so wrong with saving the soldiers’ lives who end up dying needlessly?” “But they end up killing women and children in other countries needlessly one can argue too. They tell you that they need these for the military, so that you don’t object. But the actual targets are poor women and children. I think that’s the reason why David; the leader of Tomorrow’s World Order was arguing with the University’s chancellor. How can a university even offer such a course? I would not be surprised that even some students have come forward requesting the Ultima-Talionis letters?” “Ultima-Talionis letters?” “Yes! Tomorrow’s World Order’s license-to-kill! There is a list that has been released and is circulating,” Jamelia looked scared. “A guy bumped into me. He said that I am on the list and suggested I ran away. I thought he meant the Devil’s worshippers’ list. One stolen by the gatekeeper. Can he order me to be killed? I am just a student. I am doing this to help our soldiers. That means saving lives of these soldiers!” There was silence for a second or two. “What is with the haunted look on your face?” Asked Jamelia. “Deroy was blasted eight times just a week ago,” she said. “But you told me he was mugged first?” “I know. I had no idea, now that you mentioned the list. It hit me. It’s not the gatekeeper’s list. It is Tomorrow’s World Order’s list,” she said. “But who is Tomorrow’s World Order? What gives them the right to play God?” “People are saying that even though he won’t admit it. He is playing God. Trying to do what God would have done and expected us if Eve in the garden of Eden had not listened to the devil.” “Meaning?” “Choosing a man among us to cover for him and take mankind out of the defensive stages. To another very developed stage called Networking and Cooperation. A stage the religious cults call paradise.” “But they say people have to die first before going to paradise?” “He argues that if Eve had not listened to the devil then the people would not know what death is. As the bible states that Eve’s disobedience let in sin and death. Assuming she didn’t listen to the devil. That means this stage would be achievable here on earth. As God had planned. The very reason he is saying that all humanity must work toward this stage. Through the killing of people like you who are making these unwanted yet harmful digital weapons. Doing as the devil. Introducing sin, death, and diseases into the world. Hence the list and the issuing of the UTs. The Ultima- Talionis orders,” said Ligita. “But I am only twenty-one of age and facing death already?” “Accountability comes to all of us. He argues that kids as young as infants are victims of these digital pathogens and watermarks so have no mercy to any involved. Blast all!” A huge sharp knock at the door saw Jamelia getting up and stuffing herself in the clothes wall cabinet before the door opened. “Jamelia Dolphins?” “Left the campus a week ago,” replied Ligita. “So, who were you talking to? I heard voices.” Ligita froze for a split-second. Her heart pounding fast. Instantly the phone started ringing in the clothes cupboard. “Excuse me! This stupid man won’t leave me alone. He keeps demanding s*x. I had to hide my phone. She walked to the clothes cabinet and Jamelia handed her the phone. She pretended to have taken the phone from the jacket. She took the Jacket out as well. But the sight of the jacket alarmed him that he retrieved his gun. “That is Jamelia’s jacket! You are lying to me!” He retrieved a photo of her wearing the jacket. He pushed her to the side and walked to the clothes cabinet but a huge knock at the door made the man stop. Quickly he looked at the size of the cabinet and quickly walked to the window and hid behind the curtain. The door suddenly opened. “Where is Jamelia?” Ligita thought for a while. “She ran away last week. She complained about a man behind the curtain trying to kill her.” She pointed at the man’s protruding shoes that quickly vanished. “I am going to kill that b***h. Designing and creating digital pathogens that are killing thousands of women and children.” The man signaled to Ligita to walk out fast. The man pretended to have gone out. Instantly the man behind the curtain came out from hiding. “Hands up right now! Who are you? Whom do you work for?” “None of your business but I guess we are after the same thing.” “Who do you work for? I am the only one assigned to whack her! How come you have been assigned to the same case?” “She has been exposed. I need the code first before we get rid of her. So, I advise you not to harm her.” A beep sound startled all. “Wilbert Cunnings!” “What did I do? How did you know my name?” Another beep startled the man. He quickly aimed his gun at him. “I have just accepted a new assignment as well?” “What assignment?” Asked Wilber quickly aiming the gun and pulling the trigger just the minute Jamelia opened the clothes closet’s door hitting Wilber’s hand holding the gun with the gun falling down. Leaving Higgins staggering toward the bed as she had pushed him out of the way. A scream tore the student apartments the same time a bullet sound rocketed the skies.” Ligita ran for her life before ducking and looking back to see who was coming next. The sight of Jamelia in her yoga gear put a smile on her face. A smile that was short-lived as two consecutive gunshot sounds rocketed the skies. The women while ducking looked at each other. Scared to death. Higgins came out staggering holding his bleeding stomach with the gun in his hand. He stopped and looked in the direction in which the women were hiding. He lifted the gun before instantly Wilber opened the door behind him, staggering as well as he was touching his side. Before Higgins can turn around a bullet sound rocketed the skies pushing him toward the direction in which the women were. As a reflex, he fired the very minute the bullet hit him. A scream tore the skies. That distracted Wilber who looked in that direction expecting Higgins to fall down but Higgins simply looked at his shoulder and cursed before he twisted and fired. A sharp short sound of pain from Wilber saw him fall to the ground with a bullet hole on his forehead. Jamelia gave one look at Ligita then at Higgins who was walking slowly toward the body of Wilber before sprinting off sobbing and wiping blood off her hands. Higgins then proceeded to where the women once were. He arrived and poked the dead bleeding body of Ligita while kicking her ribs. He cursed. “The b***h got away! Damn it! I shoot the wrong one!” “Help, please help,” softly said Ligita as she came around from unconsciousness. Higgins cursed finding that she was still alive. He tried to kneel down but held his stomach in pain. He cursed and looked at the growing blood patch around the woman’s body. He cursed and slowly lifted the gun and aimed. “Help, please, help,” she said with a faint voice. “Oh my God, what have I done?” He aimed at her head and closed his eyes. A bullet sound rocketed in the skies. He looked in the direction Jamelia had gone and cursed. He then staggered away as the siren sounds filled the atmosphere and as students gathered knowing that the dangers had been removed evidenced by the loud siren sounds as they became more audible. “Get out of my way!” He shouted pointing the gun before getting into his car and driving off. The sirens soon became louder as the cars approached. A beep sound startled them. “Confirm if mission completed!” He cursed. Then soon the car came to a screeching halt. He looked at his wounded stomach and quickly wrapped a cloth round his body. Another beep sound startled him. He cursed and lifted a hand-held electronic device. He scanned a barcode and entered a code. His heart now beating really hard. Another beep sound and a message were left. “Thank you for making this world a better a place by removing pain to the world. Thank you. Your digital currency wallet is now active. On behalf of Tomorrow’s World Order.” Another beep sound startled him. “Your FutureGoldcoin digital wallet has been credited with one billion dollars! Exchangeable at the Global Reserve Bank!” Another beep sound left him in fear. “Confirm if Jamelia Dolphins’ assignment has been completed?” He cursed. He roared hard before putting his finger on the Abort button.
