Chapter 31-1

705 Words

Vicky~ The world drifted in and out of darkness as fragments of voices echoed around me while pain pulsed through my cheek and shoulders. Somewhere nearby, wolves were speaking. "...they're heading toward the eastern border." "Track them." “My lord, trackers are already following their scent trail as we speak!” "Notify the patrol commanders. I want every road watched." Oddly, the cold and dangerous voice felt familiar. Yet, I couldn't remember why. Immediately, strong arms carried me and I felt the steady beat of a heart beneath my ear before exhaustion dragged me under again. When consciousness returned briefly, I found myself surrounded by the scent of cedarwood and winter snow which made me realise that it wasn't Rowan and that alone hurt far more than what I was going through.
