Becca When I went to check on Sydney a couple hours later, I was surprised to find that Blake hadn’t returned from his candle errand. Surprised, and a little relieved. And also disappointed. After getting over my shock at seeing him, I had an insatiable urge to remind him of who I was and pin him into a corner until he admitted he never forgot me, explained everything that had gone unsaid back then, and apologized. Or at least admitted he sort of remembered me. For a while after high school, I’d anticipated running into him at a reunion or even a local coffee place, assuming he stayed in the area. We’d have a frank conversation, and I’d get some closure. To this day, it still didn’t make sense. But he’d never turned up at a reunion, and my casual inquiries among people I’d remembered
