I Will Be

“Go after her.” Dante scolded, but they didn't move; their job was to protect the pope and always follow him. Going after the lady will mean leaving the pope without protection. “Get going,” Dante roared at them before they quickly got in and drove after the car, which was already out of sight. Lena drove at full speed; she couldn’t afford to be caught. “I will go to the police; that’s the safest place,” Lena muttered with trembling lips. She kept driving while scanning around the place, trying to locate the police station. “Where the f**k is it?”She kept navigating the car map and finally spotted a police station. Lena parked the car in front of the station and ran in when some policemen held her “Hey.” “Help me, help me, please. I am in danger.” Lena pleaded, and some policemen hurried out to check out the place. “What happened, miss?” the head of the police, Otto, asked. Otto was the head of the police in charge of the fourth local; he asked one of the officers to get her a cup of water. “He killed my parents and kidn*pped me; he has my sister and plans to kill her,” Lena explained, and her face got wet from her tears. Otto felt bad for her and crouched to her level. “Don’t bother; we will help you. Do you know any information about this man?” He asked, and Lena nodded. “I heard people call him the pope,” Lena spouted, and they all stared at her in disbelief before they exchanged looks. “You are not Italian; maybe American?” Otto asked, and Lena nodded; she just wanted justice for her parents and to escape all this mess. “We will make sure you get back to America safely and also take care of the pope; you came to the right place,” Otto said before he asked her to write a statement that could be used against Nero, and Lena did just that. She had stayed at the station for another hour before Otto approached her. “Come with me; there is a plane waiting for you,” he said, and Lena stood up excitedly and followed him to his car before he drove out. “Do you know why he is called the pope?” Otto asked Lena after thirty minutes of driving , and Lena shook her head in denial; she assumed it must be a nickname. “In the ranks of mafia in the world, we have priests, bishops, and then the pope,” Otto explained, and Lena frowned. “Who is the highest rank?” she questioned, and Otto sighed heavily. “The man who is more than the government, the man who signs peace treaties with the president of each country. The man who signed a peace treaty with the president of Italy, promising to not bring war if no one interferes in his affairs,” Otto explained, and Lena thought for a while. Her eyes widened in realisation; the pope was the highest rank, and he had the government by his side. She looked out of the window and noticed Otto was taking the same route she took while leaving Nero’s mansion. “Please don’t take me back to him; he is going to kill me, please.” Lena burst out in tears, but Otto’s hands were tied. Helping Lena will mean risking his life and that of his family, and he didn't want that. “I will help you alert the government of your country, but that’s all I can do.” He tried understanding with her, but she shook her head in denial. “Why are you all so heartless? If you won’t help me, then stop the car and let me go. “ Lena kept yelling, but he turned a deaf ear towards her; he was doing this with a heavy heart. To his surprise, she pushed the door open and jumped down. “Hey…” Otto gasped in disbelief; he quickly parked the car and hurried down, but Lena had stood up on her feet and tried running away despite the injuries on her body. “Stop there,” Otto scolded and ran after her; there was a car coming before them, and Lena screamed out for help, but she was shocked to find Nero hurry down the car with Dante. “No... no... no.” Lena cried out; there was no escape route. Nero approached her and scanned her body before he held her hand and pulled her closer to him. “Do you think escaping from me is about running?” He questioned, and she shook her head in denial; he rubbed her cheeks and muttered. “I don’t wish to hurt you; I will never hurt you, so why do you try to escape from me?” He asked, and Lena felt her legs go numb; she was tired, and her eyes slightly closed as she lost consciousness. “Call the doctor.” Nero ordered Dante before he carried her in his arms and turned to Otto. “Did you touch her?” he asked, and Otto clenched his fist before he answered. “I don’t think I will ever touch a woman without her permission; I am not a monster.” Nero walked to the car before it drove out, and Otto kicked his car angrily. “I couldn't even help her; I am sorry, Lena.” – Lena held her head tightly before she slowly opened her eyes and scanned the area; she was back in the bedroom in Nero’s mansion, and she jumped up quickly. Fear crept in her when she noticed Nero at the edge of the bed staring at her. “Do you need some water?” he asked, and she shook her head in denial. Her body was hurting a lot, and she had some bandages around her body. Nero stood up and approached her. “Food?” he asked, and she shook her head in denial while holding her breath, scared that he would hurt her. “Then come with me.” He held her hand and pulled her up before carrying her princess style in his arms. “Put me down.” Lena flung her legs in the air trying to get him to release her, but it was all in vain. He walked out of the bedroom and down the corridor before stopping at the last door of the corridor, and a guard pulled it open. Only then did he place her down, and she scanned the room; her gaze stopped on the lady who was hung from the ceiling. Linda “Linda!” Lena screamed in disbelief. What shocked her the most was the pool of blood on the floor below Linda; she realised Linda was bleeding and also looked so weak. “She is losing a lot of blood; please bring her down.” Lena fell down on Nero’s feet and pleaded. “Please, I am sorry, please.” Lena kept pleading, and Nero crouched to her level before he held her cheeks. “I am La Mano Nera, and I am good at keeping my words,” he made it clear, and she nodded. “I am sorry; I made a mistake, and I will never try to escape. Please let her go; please bring down my sister, I will be obedient.” Lena was willing to let go of every idea or plan she had for escaping; she was losing her mind every time a drop of blood added to the pool of blood below her sister’s feet.
