Jack's heart raced as the gunshots echoed outside his house. He couldn't believe how this night had taken such a dangerous turn. Just as he was about to make a run for it, he froze in shock as Elvira, a face he never expected to see, appeared before him. "What are you doing there?" Elvira demanded, her voice filled with urgency as she exchanged gunfire with their enemies. "Get up while you still have time!" The words hung in the air, their significance sinking in for Jack. Why would Elvira, someone he barely knew, risk her life to save him? Doubt clouded his mind, causing him to hesitate. "Why are you helping me?" Jack's voice trembled as he peeked out from his hiding spot. "You're going to kill me, I know that!" Elvira's eyes narrowed, her gaze piercing through the chaos around them. She shook her head, frustration noticeable in her voice. "If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't be fighting off the ones who want to kill you just outside of these walls. Just do as I say!" Jack's senses raced, torn between trusting this unexpected ally or making a desperate attempt to escape. The sound of approaching footsteps urged him to make a decision, and with a deep breath, he made his choice. "I swear I'll kill you myself if you are lying to me." Jack's voice thought twice, his fear mixing with judgment. Elvira nodded briskly, her gaze never leaving their adversaries. "There will be time for explanations later, Agent Bradley, but right now, our priority is getting you out of here alive." Without wasting another moment, Elvira bundled Jack into her car, while their relentless pursuers closed in. The adrenaline coursing through their veins drowned out any possibility of conversation, for now. "Are you skilled in driving?" Elvira asked reminiscing the first time Jack drove her car and crashed it to the bridge. Jack, still lost in his thoughts about Elvira helping him, questioned, "Why? What do you have in mind?" "I will deal with those who are coming after us, all you have to do is drive. That's probably something you're only good at," Elvira reacted convinced. Unable to think of any alternatives, Jack found himself driving through the dangerous situation they were in. He watched as Elvira effortlessly defeated their pursuers, leaving him in awe. "We need to make our way to the train station," Elvira ordered Jack once all their enemies had been dealt with. "The train station? Are we leaving Zion City?" Jack exclaimed with frustration. "I can't leave my daughter here, and I don't trust you because you were on Victor's side." Elvira responded firmly, "You have no choice, Agent. If you return to Zion City, do you honestly believe you'll see your daughter again? I won't be risking my life helping you if I am still on Victor's side." "How can I be certain that you have cut off all contact with your former boss?" Elvira glanced at Jack and stated, "You'll have your answer once we get out of here." Elvira glanced at Jack, noticing the distress etched on his face as he processed the difficult crisis they found themselves in. With a heavy heart, she knew that she had no other choice but to take him to the safest place she knew – the nearest safe house. As they stepped into the safehouse, Elvira motioned for Jack to sit down. She carefully placed her guns on the table and turned her attention toward him. "We're here for now," she spoke softly, her voice laced with concern. "Until the wounds on your body are less conspicuous, it's safer for you to stay hidden." The confusion was evident in his eyes, Jack looked around the safehouse, his gaze falling on the well-furnished surroundings. "Whose house is this?" he asked, suspicion tainting his voice. "Is this some lavish home your boss provided? And are we expecting an attack at any moment?" Elvira shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips despite the seriousness of their situation. "No, Jack. This is my own house," she admitted, her voice tinged with a touch of vulnerability. "It belongs to both me and Bob." "Bob?" Jack stuttered, shock radiating from his every word. "You know Bob?" Elvira nodded, her confidence unwavering. "Of course, I know my boyfriend," she answered, her tone firm. "And I believe he must have mentioned the smuggled jewelry and the stones that will be auctioned off tomorrow, right?" Passing him a first aid kit, Elvira's eyes held a mix of conclusion and trust. She knew that their affinity and their shared knowledge could be the key to surviving these treacherous circumstances. Jack's familiarity with the events that had transpired in the past had become clearer to him. It puzzled him why their operations in the Zion Federal Bureau were repeatedly thwarted by Victor Juarez, the notorious syndicate leader. Seeking answers, he turned to Elvira. "Bob was Victor's man inside the Bureau all along?" Jack raised a question, his voice laced with disbelief. "So, Juarez knows everything we do? Why do you seem to have turned your back on him?" Elvira took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before responding. "The last shipment of smuggled gemstones and jewelry was just a plan concocted by Victor," she revealed her tone firm. "It was a trap to expose anyone who wanted to betray him. When Victor alerted the authorities that night, he knew that Bob would come running to you, and you would inevitably foil his plans." Jack's eyes widened with shock. "But why? What reason do you have to throw down your boss and put pressure on me?" A discerned glint flashed in Elvira's eyes as she gave him an answer, "Bob and I did this to force Victor into revealing his real stains. By framing you, he would believe that you were still a threat to him." Jack's fury began to boil within him as he realized he had unwittingly become a pawn in their dangerous game of deceit. "Because of the actions you and Bob took, I have lost everything that mattered to me! My wife is gone, my daughter is gone, and my reputation as a law enforcement officer is in ruins," Jack swore angrily, drawing his grip on Elvira's neck. Desperate for her life, Elvira argued, "Bob sacrificed himself for this cause. He believed in your ability to find a solution. Please, Jack, let me go, and let's work together!" Despite her struggle to breathe, Elvira managed to retrieve a syringe from her pocket. The needle contained a sedative, a precautionary response in case Jack had a change of heart. Acting swiftly, Elvira tied him up before he could regain consciousness. As Jack gasped for air, Elvira begged, "Listen, Jack, no one else is willing to help you except for me. I understand that you're angry and doubtful, but you have to trust me this time. Help me, and together we can save your daughter." Defiantly, Jack stubbornly insisted, "Help? I will not help you. I will find a way to save my daughter, and all of you will pay for what you've done." "If you decline to help me, I'll leave you in this desolate position and allow you to decay away. Come on, just give me an answer before I reconsider." Elvira asserted, imposing her conditions upon him. As the night fell, Jack wrestled with uncertainty regarding Elvira's ulterior motives. Particularly after witnessing her swift ascent as the trusted ally of his longstanding nemesis, he found himself questioning her sincerity. Lost in his thoughts, Jack contemplated the potential consequences of aligning himself with Elvira. Was he ready to risk everything on a mere flicker of trust? Their past encounters had been shrouded in ambiguity, leaving Jack with an unsettling feeling of trepidation. Suddenly breaking the silence, Elvira persisted, her words laced with stubborn determination. "Well, Jack, have you decided? Is our deal on the table?" she interrupted, unwilling to grant him the luxury of further contemplation. "What do you want to happen?" Jack asked, his voice calm and collected. "I know there's another reason for this, and I won't risk the life of anyone near me," he added. Elvira reassured him, still slightly uncertain, "I will say what I want to say when I know you're making a genuine agreement with me. And in exchange for your agreement, we'll get your daughter back." Jack remained silent, not wanting to engage with the woman standing before him. However, he nodded in agreement to the plans she had prepared for their upcoming unlawful job. As Elvira laid out pictures of the stolen jewelry on the table for Jack to see, she expressed, "I want to recover all the stolen jewels that Victor is going to auction at the Weston Museum." Puzzled, Jack questioned, "Why? Can't you handle Victor and his men on your own?" Elvira's expression turned heavy as she reacted, "I believe numerous lives have been lost because of those jewels and stones, and you don't even know it." "I'm aware. The cargo contains jewels and stones that stemmed from Borromeo. It's a homeland to people that died years ago, either due to excessive starvation," Jack recalled, reflecting on his past reports at the Bureau. "Despite Victor's manipulation, Bob remains a good person. And after what happened in Borromeo, we had no choice but to distance ourselves from our former boss," Elvira conveyed. However, fulfilling Elvira's demands isn't easy for Jack, who has also experienced the loss of a loved one. He understood the stimulus behind her words, but the protection and well-being of his daughter, Emily, took priority for him.
