The tension followed us all the way through the trees and into the pack threshold. The car rolled to a slow stop, and the rest of the way, we went on foot. Darius walked beside me like a shadow that could bite.
I scanned the territory as we walked.
Silverclaw didn’t look like the place I remembered. It was quieter. Grayer. The buildings looked tired, and the scent of smoke still lingered faintly in the wind, like a fire had come through not long ago.
