Amaria's POV
Calissa breaks contact, "You are the only living heir left. Sariyah was so consumed with her power that she hasn't found her mate." she studies me after that. I'm conflicted about how I feel. My aunt killed her flesh and blood to take the throne. How would I be able to stop her?
"Amaria, this will be a challenging task, but the Goddess has not gifted me with sight without purpose. I knew you and Ash were going to be mates. I knew she was going to go after your mother." My head snaps to her face.
"YOU KNEW AND YOU DID NOTHING TO STOP IT?!" I shout at her. Calissa inches towards me, but before she got too close to me I raise my hand to stop her. She flies backward, her body smashing against the wall.
"Mari enough!" Ash yells, rushing towards his mother. I freeze, looking down at my hands in terror.
"Ash, do not be upset with her, she doesn't know how to control them yet." Ash helps Calissa stand, she comes closer to me, but I step away from her.
"Please don't. I don't want to hurt you again." I whisper, turning away from her and wrapping my arms around myself.
"Amaria, it is okay, I am fine. Look" She steps into my line of sight, reassuring me. Calissa's eyes clouds over and she stills in her movement.
"Ash, what's wrong with her?"
"She is getting a vision. She will come too soon. You'll get used to it." He says, looking at his mother.
We wait for what seems like hours before a soft knock sounds behind us, causing Calissa to break her trance.
"Stallin has arrived."
"Is that what you were seeing?" Ash asks.
"Yes." She looks at me, "I have the gift of sight as well. I do not get a time or date Amaria. It can change at any moment as well. So I did not know when she would come after your mother. I just knew." She says as she opens the door. My father stood there, looking as if he wasn't just half-dead a few hours ago. I run to him, wrapping my arms around his waist.
"I'm here little lily, you're safe." He pets my head and pulls back to look at me. Turning to Ash he says, "Thank you for getting her here safe."
Ash nods, "I would do anything for her." That's an odd thing to say since he's just met me.
"He is your mate, your betrothed, your protector, and your other half Amaria. This is the way it is supposed to be." Calissa states.
I ponder on that statement for a moment, maybe that is why he soothes me. One-touch from Ash and I melt.
"I take it you've explained everything to her Calissa?" my father says, his eyes resting on Calissa.
"I did it the best way I could. It is nice seeing you again after so long, Stallin. But enough of this, dinner is ready I know everyone is pretty tired. Let's eat and rest. We have a lot to do come morning. Amaria has a lot to learn."
Everyone follows Calissa to the dining area. Ash sits beside me at the table, and I lean towards him feeling comfortable in his closeness. His hand reaches for me, giving it a soft squeeze before he begins to eat. Everyone eats quietly, and then Calissa shows us to the rooms that she had prepared for us. Before she leaves me to myself I stop her, "Calissa, I am really sorry about what happened earlier." I stare into her eyes, hoping she can feel how sorry I am.
"I will have none of that child. There are no apologies needed. What you need to concern yourself with is the fact that you now have two elements in your control, Air and Earth." My eyes widen then, "I felt the tremors, even from the distance, Amaria. You have a lot of power in you. You have to be cautious with your emotions. If I felt it, I know Sariyah did as well." She leaves me after that. I lay in bed, my mind running, not being able to sleep. The door opens slowly, I turn to see Ash peeking in.
"Can we talk Amaria?" he asks hesitantly.
"Yes we can," I sit up and pat the spot on the bed next to me, "You can call me Mari, ya know?"
He chuckles softly, "Yes, I know. Amaria sounds beautiful though." That statement causes me to blush. I look away from him as he sits next to me. "How are you doing with all this new information?"
"It's confusing me, but I now understand why my father always wanted me to 'Handle myself with grace" as he puts it. He had no idea when I would gain my elements." I focus on the mirror hanging on the wall in front of me. Ash pulls me to him, and we fall back onto the bed.
"Your father doesn't have any elements because he wasn't born a royal. He will try his best to show you as much as he can, but the rest is up to you." He kisses the top of my head softly, causing me to blush again, " I have complete faith in you Amaria."
We lay like this until I feel myself drifting off to sleep. "I will stay here if you want me to." he says softly, "I will do whatever you want me to." He rubs my shoulders softly.
"Stay please." He smiles and I drift off to sleep. Ash must've fallen asleep as well because he jumps at the sound of a crash, scaring me awake. I look around to see smoke filling the room. "Ash we have to get out now!" I shout, but he's already on the move. Taking my hand, he pulls me out into the hallway, almost crashing into my father and his mother.
"This way," Calissa says quietly, pointing towards a door at the other end of the hallway. We move quickly, opening and entering the darkroom.
I feel the grass in between my toes, "Are we outside?" I barely get out before a hand covers my mouth. Ash pulls me towards the trees, following behind our parents. As we watch the cottage burn down a woman steps into the clearing, followed by a bunch of people carrying weapons. This woman is stunning, with fiery red hair cut short just above her shoulders, and a slim build, you could easily see the resemblance between us. This must be my aunt Sariyah. She has her hand raised towards the cottage, flames flying from her palm.
"We have to get out of here now." my father whispers, "We have to move quietly. Let's move." With one last look over my shoulder at the cottage, we take off.
"FIND HER!" Sariyah's voice echoes through the trees.
