Araya Present day
I sat down at a table in the coffee shop and opened my laptop I needed to do some homework and here it’s a little less depressing than being in my room. I open my notes and a smell hits me like a ton of bricks. Rain, pine, and lemongrass I looked up trying to figure out where the scent was coming from, I looked up at the man from my dreams, like my actual dreams, he had grey sky-blue eyes a god like body and a the face of a movie star. He was looking right at me like he recognized me too, but he wasn’t happy about it quite the opposite he looked pissed. He smelled like rain and looked like a storm as he turned around and walked back out of the coffee shop, I could’ve sworn the entire shop shook when he slammed the door behind him.
MATE! Boomed the small voice in my mind that I could’ve sworn that I imagined, I was confused I couldn’t focus, couldn’t breathe, my vision blurred, What the hell is happening to me? What did he do to me? I sat there stuck for a minute, before chasing him outside, he was stopped in the parking quietly looking into the woods across the street.
“Hey” I yelled out to him, he didn’t answer or look back at me at all, like he was stuck in a trance I caught up with him and grabbed his arm the motion makes my whole body tingle. He slowly looks down at me as if he’s finally noticing my presence. “Hey” I repeated softer this time still holding his arm. I’m in a dream. He stands silently for a second but as soon as I opened my mouth to say something else, he speaks first. “Hi.” His voice sounded deep and almost strained as if speaking to me caused him physical pain. I wanted to comfort him, hold him, ease his pain and I didn’t know why I felt so drawn to him.
“Look, I’m sorry about this but I don’t want a mate and I’m sure you’re a great girl, but I don’t need this.” He continues looking into my eyes like he’s searching for something as he speaks, I can feel my heartbreaking in my chest and can’t figure out why a stranger is effecting me this much. My body starts to tense my breathing starts to speed up like I’m having an anxiety attack. I can see look of horror spreads across his face as my vision blurs, my body starts to feel heavy and I start to sway, as my body can hit the ground, I feel tingles on my legs and back, he catches me and lifts me into the air. “What’s going on?” I say faintly as I black out.
I wake up a few hours later on a soft bed in a dark room I’d hoped it was all a dream but by the smell of rain and lemon grass I was surrounded by I knew it’d all been real I have to get up and find him. I should really learn his name. I get up and open the door. I walk down the hall and see a door cracked open, I peak my head in and see him typing on a computer. I knock on the door gaining is attention.
“Hey your awake, come in.” I walk in nervously hands behind my back.
“Yea thanks can we talk?”
“Sure.” He talks to me but isn’t paying any attention.
“This is going to sound strange, but I think I’ve been dreaming about you for a while and when we touched earlier I felt
sparks like actual ones. I don’t know what’s going on.” He finally looks up a me.
“What do you mean you don’t know what’s going on we imprinted, you’re my mate.”
“What’s a mate?”
“You’re joking right” he says in a tone that’s part annoyance part disbelief
“No, I’m not I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’re not human so how could you not know?”
“What do you mean I’m not human?”
“You’re a werewolf like me” When he says that I burst into laughter, but his face is serious
“That’s very funny but, werewolves don’t exist”
“I can assure you we definitely do and you’re one I can sense it.”
“How can you sense it?”
“My wolf can feel yours.”
“I don’t have a wolf.”
Well, that’s slightly offensive says that voice in my mind again, I’m going crazy.
“You don’t have a small voice in your head that talks to you about all your life decisions, it’s kind of annoying but a part of yourself.” When he says that I start to think about all the small comments coming from deep in the back of my mind I thought it was just me. Just as I’m about to lie to him tell him I don’t hear strange voices in my mind it comes back again,
Hi Araya, I’m Avalon your wolf, I know this is a lot to take in, but what he’s saying is true you’re a werewolf he’s your mate and I’m your wolf. You should listen to him he’s your mate. And just like that she’s gone again and I’m alone in my mind.
“You do hear it right?” He asks annoyed expectantly as if he’s talking to a child.
“Yes I do, but I had never heard it until today.”
His face changes then as if that shocked him a bit. “Weird, usually wolves present themselves when you turn 16 when you shift.”
“Shift?” I ask
“On the first full moon after a wolfs 16th birthday they shift, transform into their wolf for the first time.”
“That didn’t happen to me. So, I’m human right? I have to be this whole thing doesn’t make any sense I didn’t do some weird shift into some large menacing dog when I turned 16, I think I’d remember that. Look guy I don’t know who or what you are but if anything, you’re saying is true I need answers. And I need your help since you’re the only one who even remotely knows what’s going on with me.”
“Okay I understand that you want and need answers, and I’ll admit that I’m curious how this happened, but I don’t want a mate okay. So, spending time with mine is not on my priority list. You’re on your own.”
“If you help me figure my life out, I’ll leave you alone, I’ll do whatever I have to do to not be your mate.” His face turns curious and a flash of something else crosses his eyes almost slightly disappointed or at least that’s what I think it was. But just as quickly as it came it went.
“Deal.”
