Seeing them after a month

1075 Words
Lana cleaned every corner of her home in anticipation of her parent's arrival though they were a little later than usual they would always come. No one could understand her better than she understood herself. Most people had the conclusion that her parents were cruel. she also had the same thought when she was younger until a fateful day at the pack. Lana watched from the bench as the girl in front of her was speaking to the ground. Her eyes were glued to the ground as she looked at it tenderly. The girl was dressed in a pale pink princess gown with faded grey shoes and a pair of hole-ridden socks. The girl was the same age as she was. "Hi" she could not resist talking to the girl. "Hello" the girl answered softly. " What are you doing? " she asked. " Talking to the ground " Lana immediately bent her head towards the ground just in case there was a conversation going on that she could not hear. A moment of silence rained as Lana could not hear anything, she raised her head and looked at the girl. " I cannot hear anything who are you talking " " My Family, the stars are too far away so I cannot talk to them properly" The statement did nothing to ease the confusion in little Lana's heart. " Well, they are in the stars and cannot come back anymore so use the ground to talk to them." A smile crept on the girl's face almost like what she said was not depressing at all but the familiar gaze mirrored hers as they watched other parents carry their kids around. An emptiness grew in their eyes. Seated in absolute silence. A small voice whispered " I wish they had taken me" the voice was so soft that the voice could have been missed but Lana heard it. They both quietly watched as the last parent picked up their kid and left. The sky was darkening and the sun was ready to leave the sky. A middle-aged lady walked towards them dressed in neat office wear her blonde hair was packed in a bond. Her heels clicked as she walked. " Arie let's go back" " Bye, oh, by the way, my name is Arie and that's the orphanage mistress so have to go, " the girl said as she got up and walked towards the lady. " My name is Lana, nice to meet you" Lana waved at her. Arie waved back not once looking at her. She moved towards the bench and waited for her nanny. While seated she wondered how people travelled to the stars. Though Lana was technically alone she was not left to her device. Constant calls and messages made her feel loved to a large extent. The nanny rushed towards her and picked her off the chair. Lana silently wondered why the nanny loved picking her up. It was super embarrassing as most children walked. On getting home she forgot all about her embarrassment and began to ask her nanny questions. " Does the ground send messages to the stars." " No the ground can't send messages. Why did you ask that? " Lana's nanny was surprised she was asking such a question. " Well, Arie said her parents were in the stars and she could speak to them through the ground " " Arie doesn't have parent that is why she said so" The nanny replied. "Oh, Lana sighed feeling bad for Arie her new friend though they didn't exchange a lot of words she still liked her. Lana smiled sadly and thought ' at least she still spoke to hers every week'. " rrnng....rrnnngg....rrrnnnnggg" Her compact vibrated. They were only a few people that would call her she stared at the screen but the number was unknown and hidden. Lana instantly closed her compact and placed it down. Her compact rang up gain with the same number. Her thumps moved to touch the answer button on the screen but she decided otherwise. a few years ago a large number of people was being hypnotized over a call. The operation was curbed only because they were unlucky enough to hypnotize a special. This caused a large deployment of the police force. It caused people to be wary of private unknown numbers As scientists, her parents were at the front line of human development They technically supported the next generation and the New Era. The scientist made sure there were no surprises that could damage the earth's stable system. Though in general Lana felt their generation was kind of peaceful. No destruction of the Earth, no massive atmosphere destruction, no new animal mutation. The world was already evolved but she still expected finding Alien life form. It has been more that three hundred years and humans haven't spoken to Aliens. the saddening part was humans had been looking for ways to interact with aliens but all to no avail. Gently blowing the steaming on her cup of coffee she was still a little biased and hoped humans avoided alien life form. The annoying part about one's parent being a scientist as everyone looked at you like you knew the government's secret. It was fine if her classmates thought that but seeing the exciting look the teachers gave as the eavesdropped. Like how was she supposed to know the government secret and if she did why would she tell them was it not dangerous. Her beloved parents kept their job away from her and it was one of the reasons they could not be with them. A nice rhythmic knock sounded at the door , Lana placed down the coffee to open up the door. Lana placed down her mug and stood up. She was a little bit upset as she could not enjoy her pale brown coffee filled with a large amount of milk and 2 cubes of sugar. The caffeine did nothing to keep her awake on a normal day but she loved it. She gently opened the door and there they were, her little feelings replaced by shock then immense happiness. Dressed in a white shirt with matching black pants were her parents. Their hands stretched out as they pulled her in for a big hug. The family of three happy to be reunited even for a short while stood there for what seemed to be forever.
