A storm brew at the bottom of Hen Cliff, Tumultuous waves in opposition to the ever quiet sea that was below.
Cracks seem to show full on the mirror like water growing more as the sounds grew louder.
Ever ready soldiers stood at the edge waiting for an eruption of some kind to break a thousand years calm barrier like the Hen river meant their was a great force behind that boundary and no one was sure they wanted it out.
Mech improved weapons in the and of the non-ability users. The weapons were lined with space crystals each alloy was a strong mutated metal. Each of the soldiers were dressed in a grey scaly gel like suit with a strong monster spine perfectly fit at their spine.
Their heads were wrapped in a high quality brain gel.
These was a medium quality suit and was used for level E emergencies. In these case a level 2 dimension or dimensions.
It was not rare for a dimension to open simultaneously at the same place.
That was the situation below Hen Cliff, It might be a good thing as another stable dimension meant more resources. The danger in getting these resources where dependent on the level.
While everyone had their thoughts the soldiers stood in front of the danger posing their weapons below and straight ahead of them.
The Ability users stood by their sides waiting for the dimension to break open.
The Hen river suddenly grew quiet and the mirror cracks on the ever still water surface remained still, these was a suspension time.
The dimension was definitely a stable one.
They patiently wait as researchers and scientists from various schools began to test the environment and the cracks.
Elements and energy particles were quietly seeping out of the cracks.
These have mind calming conclusion that it was an E level dimension.
Far from these site, Lana was seated in Captain Carl class, she watched as the energy particles moved around without reason or control. These was a basic theory of the movements of gas from the old times.
Humans had to dedicate their mental energy to control the free pieces around them.
The control part was hard. Like moving gas particles with a tiny string. Captain Carl shut down the holographic display and began to explain.
“ These energy particles are very hard to control on their own but they are sometimes attracted to some materials like a glassine metal or a substar metal even as low as a Bronze.
The difference in attraction makes it more valuable or absolutely useless.
Glassine metal and substation metal are used in the cultivation chambers for higher ranks. it is lined with Melted energy crystals.
It is only found in a level D dimensions. "
Captain Carl paused.
He wanted to be sure they he was getting across to all his students. After all a key foundation was a great future.
" Lining your weapon with your ability is simple, in your various knowledge book metals and ores had been leased and I suppose you have all made your self familiar with it. "
"Remember that however strong your weapon becomes it all starts from your underlaying strength and if you pick the wrong metal or ore then it could cut you strength in half. "
The class was cut short as they was no more for them to learn. The students all gathered lined up in a file.
It was not all just the ones in Mrs Carrmin class.
It was time for their elemental test other students from varying department like the energist and mind users had already got their test done.
Lana was nervous, her tummy clenched in agony as she waited her turn amongst the eager students. She was scared and it did not help that her mates came out smiling, crying or just a sigh.
What she did not want was to have her dream cut off before she could even try.
A normal reaction for her was to probably run away but if she ran away she would feel worse.
The time slowly ticked and she had excused her self for a minimum of five times. She gently stood in her spot as her hands grew colder.
“Lana, Goull, Sherrie, ...... Other name followed and they were ushered into a quiet room. In it laid a comfortable chair .
The arm rest was filed with a gelatinous substance that seemed firm. As she rested on the chair a simple skull shaped gel was placed on her head.
Lana gradually lost consciousness and when she opened her eyes she found her self in an abandoned world. It was all full and dusky, the land seemed to stretch far beyond what she could ever imagine.
It was barren like with sparse trees only covering one region and the other region as golden as honey when the sun set.
Lana shook her head ‘I am not here to admire the sunset. ’
She sat down on a rock and began to stabilize her thoughts.
Her mind began to replay the video Mrs Carrmin had given them.
Her fingers lifted slowly as she tapped it in a rhythmic manner.
Unknown to Lana that these was exactly what she was meant to do. A normal elemental test had no need for a virtual practice ground they could just place their hand in a crooin and that was all.
The virtual practice ground was to see how many of the students could open their minds and how much elemental energy can they harness with the guardiance of an old video.
Lana continued to sense to elemental energy using her hand to guide it right above her head.
In the other room the teachers watched and review the progress of each student, they watched Lana and the rest who entered response to the Virtual practice ground.
"These year is filled with talent. All the students seem to have connected with various elements. " Captain Carl stated.
" But only few can move it. And fewer make it respond to them. " Mrs Carrmin said.
"They are not geniuses these is the common ones class. " Salina reminded Carrmin.
She was not expecting much but the rate at which the dimension open they no longer needed genius students but monsters.
Thankfully they were a miles apart from their generation.
Lana eyes snapped open and she seems to have been pulled out of the virtual world. The skull shaped gel slowly pulled from her head and she sat up abruptly a wave of dizziness fell.
She sat back and relaxed breathing in very slowly to calm herself, she watched has other students got up immediately only to fall right back. A small number like her remained seated.
When she finally felt better she got up and walked out of he room making sure to avoid the log like people groaning on the floor.
The test went by fast and everyone waited in their elemental class for their result.
The result was a either pass or fail.
Failing though does not get you out of University of Magic. Rather those who could not have any elemental sense was to be given a chance to reconsider their choice.
A simple statistics was shown on an holographic tablet on he table it
consisted each students results.
Everyone hurried to their individual holograph.
They was a lot of disappointment but no one had failed an elemental sensing test.
It was a good thing because sensing of elemental is a basic.
Lana felt even worse she watched as her holographic tablet light up. She did not want to check the fear was terrible and her anxiety was skyrocketing as her breathing strained.
She practiced the mind technique quick. A huge breeze blew cooling her ever high anxiety.
She lifted her hand and before she could over think it clicked on the state of her result.
Her elemental sensing was amazing.
Those were the exact words on the screen.
' Oh my amazing, I knew I was awesome but to have it recognized. ' not like I was ever worried.
Her eyes looked around for the specifications of her elemental. She had a general water elements with presence of ice and a plant element with a very high concentration of dark matter.
Her brows furrowed as she pondered.
Mrs Carrmin made it clear that the less elements had the better it was for them and she only had two.
According to the research department. Every human body contains traces of every element it just depends on the type we are in sync with.
Hers were obviously water and plant but the traces of dark matter and ice were very high.
. She did not want to complain about anything so she accepted it without complain.
She moved onto her energist data. Though it was not needed as she had elements she still wanted to know. The first class she had explained that energy was also very much important.
It helped in easy wielding of warm weapons.
403 particles was all she was able to react with it was kind of okay but in accordance to the 700 basic particles for energist based students.
It was relatively poor. Genius potentials and specials had about 1000 to 1500. So her score was terrible on the good side she could use a level 4 warm weapon.
Her blood simmered at the thought of feeling the weapon in her hand.
"Clnnk cnck cllnk " The sound of shoes grew closer.
They all sat upright as they more who those shoes belonged to. Mrs Carrmin.
" While I am proud of the elements sensing test you all did. I have to warn you not to get cocky. In the month you have been her you lots have been training your body so you can start to get points "
"Your elements are great but the genius and specials are way above you their training is triple yours and so is their natural endowment. It doesn't mean they would become certified ability users but they have more advantage. The speed of improvement will be high for them and slower for you. " She paused her speech.
It was like someone tossed them an icy blanket in winter and poured snow on their light fire. They already knew these saying it these way made the happy atmosphere gloomy.
"A large number of you must have come to realize that the war or tv shows on mech and elemental battling the wild is highly real."
" These is especially for students who live in country side. To move to another topic each of you will be given a basic elemental gathering manual it had been modified for all elements so be careful not to take to much of the wrong element. "
The electric manual was virtual. It had taken a while for Lana to get used to the new technology that had been absent from her home town.
She held unto the element gathering
manual and walked together next class.
Monster division was massive it looked more like a laboratory than a class.
Lana took a seat behind a wide steel table and so did the various students.
On her table was a smh scanner. It was used to scan each student work.
A cold looking lady came in her hair was white. Her arms bulged out and the vein looked like they were going to burst out.
Her mouth was tightly pursed and she seemed like she had a bug diving on her cheeks , they were red and purple. A first impression of her was scary but the freshmen got used to it quite fast.
Her small eyes narrowed even further watching every student closely.
A huge monster appeared behind her.
It had huge canines, long mouth the wings were small. It's body was big and furry Lana could not see any indication of an eye.
"This is a canyon beetle it furry body could make one mistake it for a mammal. Each hair on its body is an antenna it senses everything around it and easily interpret it. These is one of the reasons it has no need for an eye. It dwells in canyon as in its name. The area is swampy and can be home to the Seldom Alligator that barely comes out of its home.
Recent studies show that the Canyon beetle and the Seldom Alligator are symbiotic. They help each other out.
The Canyon beetle work in groups of thirty if one is lucky. The beetle produces loud noises and wave length to distort ones vision.
The noises can be very irritating causing the prey to run far away into the arms of the Seldom Alligator were it is shredded to pieces in seconds.
The Canyon beetle feeds of the remains and produce 10 eggs before dying off.
Canyon beetle are small about a fist size making it hard to cut or s***h without proper practice.
It's hair causes a burning sensation when in contact with its prey skin causing wild irritation. "
She waved her hand and a number of people walked into the room in each plate was a Canyon beetle. It was the size of a fist and looked even uglier that it was in the hologram.
Lana wondered if the picture of the insect they showed them had it self photo shoot or her beetle died after seeing it is ugliness.
But what were they to do with a dead beetle.
"The beetle will be cut by you after watching me do mine. Your goal is to identify all its organs and retrieve a diamond crystal gently. "
They all focused in the clear hologram right ahead of them.
The hands grabbed a scalpel and cut a thin line through the beetle. A number of students of both gender face turned sour.
The odour from the beetle was strong and it only got worse. Lana on the other hand ignored it but as hard as she tried it began to get to her.
While she was dealing with a canyon beetle. Duane was to build a simple robot . like Lana her energy sensing was amazing she had about 954 which was twice the amount Lana gets.
Her elemental test was also good she was able to sense a fleeting amount of warp. It was good as researchers were trying to figure out faster space travel.
Buried in mountains of books Diane kept looking for ways to build a very functional robotic interface.
She had spent about a week trying to build a perfect interface.
Diane knew her problem was she kept saying how she wanted to ride in a mech. But how was she to ride if she did not understand it.
Tabble Dawg was so inspirational Diane remembered why she choose him as her role model.
A good mech is not the best but the one most understood.
In her arms were broken down commwatch. Diane removed all the delicate mother board and the casing.
She took her research to her dorm. Fortunately she was the only on there. She began to build the robot.
Hours passed and Lana was finally done with dissecting her Canyon beetle she managed to retrieve five percent of diamond crystal. The professor seem to have forgotten to mention the digestive tract can act even when dead.
Diane on the other hand assembled her robot. It was very basic and lacked a lot of integration. The importance part was its ability to respond like a commwatch.
"Ugh today was so stress full " Lana was all on about the beetle.
" Well good for you these week has been awful but on the right side I have built a super ugly robot. " Diane whined. It was true though combining of parts from various machines made the robot worse than the ones ever built before the era of mech.
"I will appreciate anything that looks and smell no definitely smell better than the insides of a Canyon beetle. " Lana complimented honestly.
The girls jokes around and relaxed. It was just Diane and Lana. Souree had been stuck on excessive training for a week.
Though Lana could barely imagine the girl lifting weights. Souree was so cute with her puffed cheeks that tempts everyone into pulling it.
"Carrmin how are the kids in common class " sir Garald Juan asked.
Though his hopes were focused on the specials and Geniuses he could not deny the commons made up a large percentage of the students population.
"Why ask about her students. Mine are terrible they only have superficial knowledge of Mechs. " Tabble interrupted.
"And they are arrogant thinking it has nothing to do with the subject. "
"Tabble a lot of them come from the country side and have few contact with the excessive civilization growth. " Garald decided to remind him.
Before he could interrupt Carrmin spoke
"My class students all have elemental sensing a majority having one main elements but no pure user " she said sadly
But her expression showed otherwise a huge smile bloomed on her face showing how happy she was.
Garald was stunned so was Tabble before he muttered "Should have given me good eggs instead of those tasteless bunch. "
Ignoring what he muttered Garald smiled
"Good....good ... It will be easier to fight for resources next year. "
Seeing he was about to be ignored Tabble decided to opt for an exchange"how about we switch classes "
"Mr Tabble the students in your class have a low energy rate of 710, mine is 299, not only are they of no use your patience to teach is really poor. "
It was almost impossible to see anyone speak against him and Tabble was not angry. He hoped she was right and that she was not.
The meeting ended well on everyone's term though. Before Tabble left he swayed back like a drunken man his hair suddenly seemed to have aged more as his eyes dimmed.
"Prepare more body bags. " Those were his parting words to Garald Juan.
Anyone in the principals place would have believed that was a threat but the principal knew it was a warning to keep the students safe.
Something big had probably happened
Something terrible.
