CHAPTER FOUR

“Do not touch her!” The familiar voice raged. “Are you giving me orders?” The new Alpha Zukka lashed out in anger. I had just been brought out of the cell. I’d been there for five days, and those five days had been the worst days of my life. I was beaten and humiliated. Fyon had requested for my head but that was the only thing Zukka had not agreed to do. Zukka had broken my heart. How could he not have believed me? He had professed love to me. He had made love to me. I had discovered I was pregnant just yesterday. He had finally permitted my release to continue working for him as the personal maid. He was treating me just the same way his father had. I was still in chains when Fyon had slapped me, I stumbled from the force of it and had mistakenly come in contact with Zukka who pushed me away from him. Imagine my shock when I saw Keagan, he was dressed as a farm worker. What was he doing here? I was about to ask, but I couldn’t because of the tension between Zukka and Keagan. “How dare you hit a woman?!” Keagan seethed. Zukka walked close to him, his face contorted with fury and arrogance. “Have you forgotten your place here?” The scene before me brought tears to my eyes, not because Fyon had pushed me but because these were the men I was in love with and they had to be put in a position to growl at each other. “Let go, Keagan.” I pleaded in a soft, defeated voice while Fyon walked to Keagan and glared at him. “Guards!” Zukka called. “Please Zukka.” I begged, already knowing what he wanted to do. “It’s Alpha Zukka to you.” He shot daggers at me, I gulped and nodded. “Please Alpha Zukka, please.” I pleaded. I was so weak. “So you know him?” Zukka sneered at me. “So this was the plan between you both to kill my father?” I was so stunned I could not say a word. The guards came and took Keagan away. He tried to fight but I think for my sake, he allowed them take him. He was beaten at the square, in full view of the pack. I cried as every whip slashed across his back. “You, go clean my chambers.” Alpha Zukka commanded, a grinning Fyon at his arms. Seeing the two of them together broke my heart, but I could do nothing, he had made his choice. I went back to my duties and tried not to offend either Alpha Zukka or his Luna, Fyon. I noticed the other wives had been chased out of the pack, courtesy of Fyon. Keagan tried to always see me, and comforted me. He told me how he came to be in the pack. Apparently, Zukka had waged war on River Moon pack because he thought it was plan for my old pack to allow me be married to Vaghan so I could kill him. He had been part of the captives and that was how he found himself here. He had told me he was even a bit happy despite the circumstances because he could see me again. Nothing changed with us, he still loved me as much as I did. “What are you doing lazing around, slave girl?” Fyon asked. I was currently tired, my pregnancy was taking a toll on me. No one knew of it just yet. I was resting on Keagan’s shoulder. “She’s tired, she deserves to rest.” Keagan told her, annoyance seeping into his tone. “Mind your tone with me.” She warned, glaring at him hatefully. “Or what? You run to your Alpha and whine to him how insensitive and wicked you are to a fellow woman who cleans up after you?” Keagan was really getting angry and the truth was I had no much strength. “It’s okay, Keagan.” I weakly pleaded. I was so tired, I’d been working for hours. It was evening, almost time for bed. Every worker had stopped working. “Shut your mouth there, Maika.” Fyon snapped angrily at me. I kept mute because I knew she was looking for ways to make the Alpha punish me. She always derived joy from my pain and tears. It was better to keep quiet than engage her. “Don’t talk to her like that!” Keagan shunned. “Or what, Keagan?” Her eyes flashed, certainly pissed that he was standing up to her. “Or I’d make you run out of here with your tail between your legs.” He threatened, his hand coming round my shoulder as a form of protection and comfort. “How dare you speak to your Luna that way?!” She seethed, moving forward to hit him. He held her wrist mid-air, his pupils dilated in fury. “That will be your worst mistake, Fyon. Don’t ever raise your hand to even attempt what you were about to do.” The threat shook my own being. I saw fear and uncertainty mask Fyon’s expression for a flitting second before she snatched her hand out of his grip, or tried to because she was still unable to. “Not that strong now, are you?” Keagan taunted. She let out a hiss and he let out a growl, even with his hand tightly clasped around hers, she fearfully staggered. He released her then and she almost fell. His chuckle was deep and held a warning in it. “Now get out.” She stood speechless for a second. “Watch your back, Keagan. I’ll deal with you.” As Keagan took small steps forward, she hurried away. Fear gripped me. The last time she’d threatened me, she had accused me of murdering Alpha Vaghan. Who knew what she would do to Keagan. “Please be careful with her, Keagan.” “She’s all bark and no bite, Maika.” He kissed my forehead. “It’s late, go to bed.” I replied and went to my room. But that nagging feeling of her threat never left. For your sake Keagan, I hope F yon’s really all bark and no bite this time.
