CHAPTER FIVE

The commotion woke me up. Without properly dressing myself, I ran out in my nightwear only to see a young girl crying. “Is this true?” Alpha Zukka asked, his gaze was on Keagan who looked so confused and lost. What was happening? I saw Fyon clinging to Zukka as usual. One would think he would disappear if she did not cling to him that much. She was wearing her usual evil grin. My heart pounded. That threat, what had she done this time? “Yes, Alpha. He tore my clothes and forced himself on me.” The girl cried. What?! I turned to Keagan who saw me immediately and shook his head in denial. His eyes begging me to believe him, just as I’d begged Zukka on the day his father had been found dead. But unlike Zukka, I believed him. I knew he didn’t do it but unfortunately, my opinion didn’t matter here. And from Zukka’s expression, he was already buying the girl’s sob story. I knew it! When Fyon had made that statement, I knew she was going to be up to something. And this was worse. r**e? This was going to be a very grave matter, it was punishable by death in most occasions. “I did not do it.” Keagan scratched his head. I felt pity for him. Why was Fyon doing all this? What did she hope to gain? “Shut up, you swine!” Zukka was utterly disgusted and furious. Without thinking, he lunged forward and punched Keagan in the face. Tears rolled my eyes. I sobbed silently for his sake. “Guards, take him to the square, I’ll whip him myself.” He ordered, and went to his chamber. As he passed me, he glared spitefully at me. I shifted to give him more space and to avoid his lashing, in case he had any in mind. The following minutes were horrible, I witnessed Keagan being whipped mercilessly like a common thief. There was no stopping. Minutes turned to an hour, Keagan was still being flogged. I wondered if Zukka’s arms were not hurting him. Soon, two other guards joined him. Then the Alpha stopped whipping him and began to use his fist on Keagan. “In his next life, he’ll never protect you.” Fyon chuckled evilly beside me and moved away. Unable to look anymore, I moved away from the place, going to a corner to cry in pain. Then I heard murmurs of surprise and confusion. I went back to the square and saw Keagan lying lifeless on the ground, he was bleeding everywhere. “No!” The scream left my lips as I ran to him, but some guards stopped me from coming close. “He’s not breathing, Alpha.” One of the guards who had stooped to check if Keagan was alive announced. Giving a somber nod, he ordered. “Throw his body in the forest.” Then he informed everyone present. “We all know the wages for r**e is death. He r***d a young girl, and now, he has paid the price.” I placed a trembling hand over my mouth, unable to stop the tears from coming and the sobs from breaking out. I raised my face to look at Zukka. Who was this person? When did he become like this? I ran. It was getting dark but I dare not stop. I could not do this anymore. It was four days since the death of Keagan, and I was not allowed rest. I hurt everywhere, emotionally, physically and mentally, I was drained. It was obvious Fyon wanted to kill me as she’d done Keagan. Oh Keagan, I swiped at tears that fell at the thought of him. I could not stop thinking of him. I loved him until the end, and even after he was gone, I could not stop loving him. How could he leave me like this? He was not just a lover, he was a best friend and the brother I never had. It was obvious Zukka no longer cared about me. I had tried getting close to him to understand how and why he became this ruthless. Why he was this mean, even meaner than his father. But he would not even look at my face, Fyon had just made life made more unbearable for me. If I didn’t leave there, I was going to lose my life and that of my baby’s. It was better to go rogue than continue in this torture called life. I saw a clear path and made a beeline for it, I could not stop now. “Hey!” A deep stern voice called. I froze in my steps. The hairs at the back of my neck stood on frigid end when I heard his boots stomping heavily behind me. “Show your face.” Another voice ordered. They were two? Oh Mother of The Moon, save me and my child, I prayed as I turned, my heart pounding in my chest. Because it was getting dark, I could not see them clearly but I knew they were hefty and could effortlessly wring my neck. “G-good e-evening.” I greeted, I could not stop the tremble in my tone. “Who are you?” One of them harshly asked. I licked my lips, moving backwards, finding a way to escape. I had no idea how to introduce myself. They grabbed me. “Let’s take her to the Alpha.” One of them said. “Please, I’m not a bad person.” I pleaded. I did not want have another encounter Alphas like Zukka or Vaghan or even Logan. “Please let me go, please.” I begged, sobbing as they pulled me along. They paid me no mind. I could not really observe my surrounding properly, it was growing dark. They pulled me until we entered a manor, and we went inside. Bright light streamed every corner. With each forward step, my heart pounded more. They finally pulled me into a room, and we stopped before a young man but his expression was foreboding and I was already trembling in my steps. He eyed me condescendingly. ”Who is she?” “Alpha, we saw her running into our territory.” He narrowed his gaze menacingly at me. “Are you a spy?” “N-no, I am not, I swear.” I wiped my tears. “I don’t believe you.” He turned to his guards. “Lock her up. She’s not going anywhere until she confesses the truth.” “Please, no.” My pleas fell on deaf ears as I was dragged again towar ds the cell. “Not the cell again, please.”
