Chapter 2 ( College basement )

"You can come inside. Give me a few minutes and I'll bring you those documents." I turn on my heel, hurrying towards the stairs. A million thoughts were going through my head. How could such a young person be a school principal? From the looks of him, he's about twenty-five. I chased these stupid thoughts away by counting the steps under my feet. As soon as I reached the second floor I opened the bedroom door wide, stepping inside and going straight towards the handbag on the bed. After I pulled out the documents, I put my hand back inside my bag to look for a pen. Kneeling beside the bed, I hastily wrote the necessary details on the document and hurried back towards the first floor. My dark eyes went to Issac leaning against the wall, arms crossed on his chest, as he was looking out the window. When Issac heard my footsteps, his dark blue eyes immediately turned to me. "I hope you've had some time to read the agreement?" Issac's low voice reached my ears. "Of course, Director Issac. Everything looks as it should." The corner of my lips lifted, looking into his eyes. "Amelia, call me Issac. No need to be so formal." The director reached out his tattooed hand towards me to take the papers. I held out the signed documents towards him and I felt his cool fingers brush over mine as he took them from my hands. "Thank you for your punctuality. See you again, Amelia." Issac smiled a charming white smile, then turned on his heel heading towards the house's front door. I slammed the door of the house and then was all alone again. I walked towards the sofa and sat on it. Getting comfortable, I grabbed the remote from the table and turned on the first music channel that came up. After only a few minutes, the door banged loudly, causing my gaze to shift to the person standing in the doorway. "Hello. It looks like we're going to be roommates. Well, f**k the weather outside." The girl's soft voice echoed through the living room. I looked at the girl from head to toe. She’s the owner of short, pale yellow hair that didn't quite reach her shoulders, dark brown eyes and a wide, sparkling smile on her face. Although, she’s probably a little shorter than me. She held two suitcases clutched tightly, one in each of her hands. "Hello," I raised my hand and waved at her. "The weather is terrible indeed. Perhaps you need some help?" I got up from the sofa and walked towards the girl in the doorway. "Don’t worry, it's just suitcases. I'll survive." Brook extended her wet hand towards me to shake my hand. "I'm Brook Jenings." Brook smiled. "Amelia Folks. Nice to meet you." I held out my hand, giving Brook's hand a firm squeeze. "Amelia, I see you’re not afraid to get wet. I like it." Brook winked as she let go of my hand. "Looks like we'll be living in a palace. Well, it's probably time to settle in. Want to keep me some company?" Brook turned towards the staircase leading to the second floor and started towards them. "Sure." I shrugged. "I'd rather chat with someone than listen to music.” Following her, I started climbing the first steps of stairs, and I smiled. "Where are you from? How long did it take you to get here?" Brook peered over her shoulder at me with her brown eyes. "Liverpool? And you?" My feet reached the top of the step. "From so far away? My journey is a little closer - Boston. Which one’s your room?" Brook paused for a moment, looking at the door in front. I pointed to the door of my room. "My room is that one, it’s a double room so we can share. You would think such a prestigious college could have been housed in a larger town?” I wonder out loud. I followed her into the room, then sat on the bed watching Brook. "Are you going to the party?" Brook set her bags down in the nearest corner. "What party? I haven't heard anything about it." I looked at Brook's face with surprised eyes. "Of course you haven't, silly. We're first-year students. We shouldn't have even heard about it." Brook rolled her eyes and grinned, then got up from the bed and headed to her suitcases. "So, how do you know there's a party going on?" I raised my eyebrows in surprise. "My cousin goes to school here, she’s a third-year student. Every year there's a party before school starts. A party would be a great place to meet new students and to learn more about the environment around us." Brook winked. "Do you think they'll let us in? First-year students aren't supposed to know about it." I made myself comfortable on my bed, watching Brook during her work. "You look older than a first-year student, which is a big plus." Brook smiled. "I'll get my make-up on, and then we can head to the party." she smiled. "What time does the party start?" I mused, peeking out the bedroom window. Brook took her mobile phone out of her pocket, then looked at me with a surprised look. I could hardly contain my laughter. The expression on her face was one of astonishment. Brook's panicked nose crinkled on her face, showing a few small wrinkles. "We have a half-hour to get ready. Where has all the time gone? I swear it was just two o'clock." Brook shook her head as she put the phone back in her jeans pocket. "Don't tell me you're wearing that horrible dress." Brook's eyes lingered on me. "Don't be so blunt, I might get offended. What's wrong with this dress?" I wrinkled my forehead looking down at my dark dress. "Amelia, it's a party, not a funeral. I'm sure you have something more eye-catching in your enormous closet." Brook's eyes darted to my closet. "I’d hate to ask if you’ve ever had a boyfriend?" Brook's gaze returned to me. "Don't bother with such petty questions. Of course, I’ve had." I rolled my eyes as I recounted the details of my past. "My ex-boyfriend was a real asshole. He cheated on me with my best friend." My smile faded. "What a bastard. I had a boyfriend too, but he turned out to be a real slowpoke. He refused to be with me through his books and dreams. I hope to meet someone special at this college." Brook pulled a short dress with sparkling little sequins out of the bag. All I want this year is to achieve my dreams. I'm sure I won't be looking for any boyfriends among the students here. The last one was enough for me, he was a real ass. I'll never forget the view of him in bed with my best friend. Our whole friendship was like a giant soap opera. From that day on I promised that love would only come after my career. Brook is probably right, I better put on something more appropriate. I got out of bed and squatted in front of my wardrobe. It's just a night out with a bunch of strangers. I'm not going out to attract the attention of all the guys, so a simple option will do. My fingers traced over the crimson dress lying in the closet. I pulled the dress out of the closet, along with a pair of black high heels that would pair perfectly. Tomorrow my feet will not thank me for these shoes. I turned around, and Brook was already standing in just under her underwear, trying to slip into her dress. "Privacy? No, you probably haven't heard of that word." I threw a questioning glance in Brook's direction. "Yes, it exists, but we're roommates. So you can forget it." The edge of Brook's dress pulled just a little higher up her knee. This girl has a striking figure. Her short blond hair was almost dry, giving her even more s*x appeal. I want to say that her bottom is very nice, but you should see her breasts. The deep cleavage added even more to the view of the two golden t**s hanging under her chin. "You look like you're going to a strip club." In one motion I took off my dress, feeling the cool air make my skin tingle. "You need to make a good first impression." Brook looked at me with her brown eyes, pulling a small case out of her suitcase. With a quick movement I slipped into my crimson dress, which is not the most comfortable option. I can't boast a huge chest, but my bottom is another matter. My dress was just above the knee, slightly falling from the waist. It's nice that I can push the shoulder straps down towards the shoulders, allowing my neck, collarbones, shoulders and part of the chest to be revealed - a simple little trick for the small-chested. A long neck is more flattering than big boobs. "Amelia, where did you get that figure?" Brook's gaze scanned my body. "We are all beautiful in our own way." I feel my cheeks blush. Brook was sitting on the bed, looking for something in a small box. Now it's clear that there's a minute of beautification going on. Too bad my make-up is in a basket on the back seat of my car. It completely slipped my mind to pick them up. I sat on the bed, watching Brook's careful movements as the mascara ran across her lashes. "Want to share?" Brook glanced at me through the mirror in her hand. "Thanks, I left mine in the car. Just dark red lipstick and mascara will do." I smiled. Those girls who look pretty with make-up can keep it, it's not for me. I have sensitive skin, and any lousy make-up makes me look like a clown. I can’t complain though as I have healthy-looking, tanned skin. A minimum of preparation for tonight will suffice. Brook gave me a red lipstick, which is perfect for my dress. Looking towards the rest of the room, I saw a mirror standing in one corner that I hadn't noticed before, but it's pretty big. That way, I could see myself at full height. I stood in front of it and looked at myself. Light brown hair slightly waved below my chest, brown eyes, and soft pink pouty lips. I gently swiped the lipstick over my lips in a quick motion, not wanting to make it too strong. "I'm ready. Shall we go in your car or mine?" Brook put the cosmetics back in the box and threw everything on the cabinet. "I refuse to drive in this horrible weather." I slipped my feet into my black high heels. "I'll probably have to make a schedule of which car we'll take to school each day. That way, we won't be left stranded either way." Brook smiled as she walked in black high heels towards the bedroom door. The loud slam of the door echoed through the house. Brook's brown eyes instantly rested on me. A few fine lines appeared on the girl's forehead, then a broad smile. "Are these our new roommates? I hope it's more girls." Brook raised an eyebrow as she paused at the threshold of the bedroom. "Let's go. It's time to sort it out." I headed for the door with firm steps. "Is there anyone in this house?" A man's voice came from the first floor. I walked beside Brook until we finally reached the top of the stairs. I took my time climbing down, not wanting to fall down the stairs in these high heels. My eyes were met by two guys standing by the doorway. They seemed to be absolute opposites. "Hello, ladies. I'm James and this is Nathan." James' pale blue eyes looked in my direction. I looked at both guys so I could commit their appearance to memory. I wasn't expecting my other two housemates to be guys. James has pale yellow hair that flows neatly in all directions. Two blue eyes shone as they looked at me. He's slightly shorter than the guy standing next to him. I need to remember that the blond guy is James. My eyes went to the other guy as two green eyes looked at Brook. He’s tall, athletic, and dark skinned. They were like night and day. It probably wouldn't be hard to remember their names. "This is Amelia." Brook's eyes glanced at me as she introduced me. ”And I'm Brook." She smiled. "Did you get dressed up just to greet us?" A wide smile lit up James' face. "James, they're not on your level. Get down on the ground." Nathan punched James in the shoulder, with two green eyes glaring at us. "Have fun settling in. We probably won’t see you tonight." I reached the last step. "It was nice to meet you." Brook opened the front door of the house and walked down the terrace steps. Before closing the door, I saw Nathan and James comfortably ensconced on the sofa, chatting quietly about something. I closed the door, then descended five steps onto the walkway. I’m glad the rain had finally stopped, but the chilly evening air did not bring any smiles. I could see it starting to get darker by the minute, the dark clouds gathering over our heads make it look gloomier all around. Brook walked hurriedly over to the grey car, unlocked it, and then sat in the driver's side. I took the passenger side and fastened my seat belt. "Brook, you didn’t mention where the party is?" I turned to Brook, who started the car with the light move. "Barewood basement." Brook smiled as she moved out of the spot. "The college has a party venue?" Felt my jaw open involuntarily. "You get to know everything in the coming years." Brook smiled as she increased the speed of the car. The streets and houses flew past the car window. Drops of water dripped from the trees, and lights illuminated the streets. Although it's not yet pitch black, the lights on the streets are already switched on very early here. I am sure my mother would love that fact. The thought made me smile as I watched the cars go by. Just five minutes later I could already see the college in front of my eyes. The darkness enveloping the streets made the building look even more impressive. The lighting is beautifully positioned along the walkway, with small lamps at the base, which gives the building a mysterious look. Brook parked the car, then got out with a quick movement. "Why do you hurry so much?" I slammed the door, catching up with Brook with a quick step. "The door closes in exactly five minutes. If we arrive late, no one won't let us in." Brook turned brown eyes towards me. "Where exactly is the basement located? For some reason, basement reminds me of monsters and murder place." I walked along with the wet tiles. "Less questions, more quick steps." Brook dipped her eye as she walked along the path. I didn't ask any more questions, but curiosity was killing me. However, I could hear very soft music coming from somewhere. We turned down a path that led along the high wall of the schools and with every step, the music kept getting louder. Around another corner, my eyes were drawn towards a broad staircase that led to the basement. Several students were standing by it and chatting. I was counting the steps under my feet when my eyes rose towards a tall, dark-skinned man standing by a large door. Out of the corner of my eye I looked at Brook, whose face looked solemn. "Ladies, what year are you?" The guy's low voice reached my ears. "Second year." I was adopting a severe tone of voice. "Have a nice evening and a tasty drink." The guy winked as he opened the door wide. We were greeted by loud music. Brook pushed me a little further inside so I wouldn't stand in the middle of the walkway. I felt a smile instantly appear on my face. This place is simply unique and huge. In the distance, I could see a dance floor with probably fifty or so people dancing. Near us, a few tables were neatly placed along the wall. To the right, you could see the bar, which was packed. One small detail did not escape me. There was quite a lot of space near one bar chair. More specifically, around one person sitting at the bar, but I couldn’t understand why. I took a closer look at the man sitting behind the bar stool and noticed he was holding a dark glass of alcohol in his hand. I didn't know if my eyes were deceiving me, but it appeared to be the school principal Issac. What is he doing here?
