"No, I'm just checking your reaction time." I smiled as I moved with a waltz step.
"I think the opposite. Why did you decide to go to Barewood College?" Issac's dark blue eyes looked straight into mine.
"It's an art college. I plan on going in the direction of design." My eyes darted towards the students dancing nearby.
"Miss Folks, future desiigner? Sounds solid."
The music suddenly stopped, and Issac released me from his embrace. He brought my hand gently to his lips, and kissed it. I felt a few lines appear on my forehead from the gesture and a blush broke out on my cheeks. I knew that this was indeed a gentlemanly gesture, I just don't know what it looks like from the side with all the students watching.
"Thank you for the dance, Amelia. I hope to see you again." Issac let go of my hand, looking me in the eye.
"Of course. In the principal's office when I'm late for class." I smiled, looking at Issac.
"You better not be late." Issac smiled as he turned on his heel, disappearing between the dancing students.
I walked straight towards the bar at a fast pace. I struggled to get past the students who were dancing and having fun. My eyes went to Brook, who was already seated on one of the bar stools. Her gaze met mine and her hand shot up in a wave. These high heels are killing me, and the alcohol is making my feet disobey. I sat next to Brook, finally able to breathe.
"Where have you been? I thought we agreed that you would stay at the bar? I saw you on the dance floor with Issac." Brook didn't take her eyes off me.
"I'm in trouble, got caught by the school principal." I rolled my eyes and raised my hand, asking the bartender for the next drink.
"You're facing suspension from the school. I'm sure of it." A wave of sadness flashed in Brook's eyes.
"You're wrong. One dance was enough. I'm still officially a student." I smiled, tipping the glass to my lips.
"Should write this incident in the yearbook. I have heard from those around that Issac is a strict and overbearing principal. Strangely, you managed to get away so easily." Brook gave me a surprised look.
"Less talk, more drink. I don't want to remember this evening." I held out my glass towards Brook. "It was strange and awkward."
Brook and I laughed out loud at my words. This evening was truly memorable. It's so good to relax and let yourself do what you want. Even though it's only been an hour since the party started, it will probably be time to go home after this glass. I want to assure myself that I will reach my bed without any issues, although I would strongly doubt it because at the moment, everything is swirling. I felt my stomach suddenly start to feel strange, and this was probably one of the signs that I had enough alcohol in my system. I placed the glass back on the bar, not wanting to annoy my liver anymore.
"Are you feeling okay?" Brook's shining dark eyes looked in my direction.
"I think I've had too much. Hyyk..." these words were followed by a hiccup.
"Is that one of your signs of drunkenness?" Brook laughed out loud.
I could feel my head spinning more and more. I think I've had enough alcohol for one day. I felt myself getting cold, even though there were plenty of people around. I opened my dark eyes and looked at Brook's blurry face. I can't say what her expression was, but she didn't look very drunk. I think she either has a history of being an alcoholic or has had less to drink than me.
"Amelia, what do you think of going home to your warm bed?" Brook's voice sounded like an echo.
I gave a thumbs-up to Brook's suggestion. Although this party is excellent, a bed seems to be a better option at the moment. It's bedtime for this party lioness. I stood up from the chair, then wrapped my arms around Brook's waist, since I didn’t want to be the one to fall on a flat floor. We strolled towards the basement exit and I pushed on the door hard, stepping out into the cold autumn evening. I felt a slightly chilly wind blowing, forcing me to open my eyes wider. My vision immediately became clearer than at the party, I needed the fresh air and a little break from the loud music. We climbed a few steps, and a large meadow and forest came into view. All of this land probably belongs to the college. This place is wonderful, although it is hard to see anything in the dark of night. Of course, the lights and lamps were a lifesaver. I'm sure neither of us can drive, so we'll probably have to call a taxi.
"We need to go to the car park. A taxi should be here in five minutes." Brook's mobile phone glowed in her hand.
"How was your dance with the cute guy?" I let go of Brook's waist, feeling more solid on my feet.
"Let’s just say he is a student who knows how to control his tongue." The corner of Brook's lips turned up to look at me.
"That's disgusting. I didn't ask for all the details, Brook." I shook my head at the thought.
I looked at the grey tiles under my feet, which were swinging in all directions, and a big smile shone on my face. I feel like I’m on a carousel. The cool air caressed my shoulders, causing me to retreat after a bit of alcohol. We walked past the high wall of the school and then along a narrow path towards the car park. My eyes fell on the road ahead, and two-car lights were shining. At last, our carriage had arrived without having to wait or get cold in such weather.
"How was the dance with the director?" Brook walked beside me with a slow step.
"As long as I'm drunk, he's attractive." I winked at Brook, smiling widely. "It'll probably all be clear tomorrow."
"I don't think Issac has a wife. Your chances are probably better than any student at this college." Brook gave me a weak fist bump on my shoulder.
"No, no and no." I raised my finger in front of Brook's face. “Please don't pair me up with the headmaster. It's disgusting." I angrily glared at Brook, who smiled.
"Come on, party lioness, let's go home." Brook opened the door of the taxi and got into the back seat.
Slowly I climbed into the car and closed the door behind me. My gaze went to a middle-aged man who was sitting comfortably in the driver's seat. He was looking at us through the mirror, waiting for us to give him the destination.
"Green Alley, house number three hundred and five." Brook set off in the direction we were going.
The car slowly moved out of the spot and I rested my head against the cool glass of the window. The dark streets of the night flew past: one person or another hurrying in a different direction. A few cars were rushing to wherever. Soft music filled the car. All that swaying made my body feel drowsy so it takes all the strength I have not to fall asleep in this taxi. A left turn made me slide towards Brook, who laughed out loud. My loose body is making me skate around the car like I was in an ice rink.
"Ok, girls, we’re here." The taxi pulled up to the curb.
I saw Brook pay the driver. I opened the door and got out of the car in a sudden movement. My eyes went to the building I now call home. I saw a few lights burning in the windows, James and Nathan are probably still awake. I waited for Brook to get out of the car and kept my eyes on the taxi as it drove away. Only now that my eyes looked to the sky, I noticed where a bright full moon was shining.
"I need to go to the toilet as soon as possible. Otherwise, tomorrow someone will have to clean the vomit off the stairs." Brook took a brisk step towards the entrance of the house.
I shuddered at the thought and I tried to summon all my strength so that I wouldn't need the bathroom myself. I climbed the terrace steps, and Brook was already walking up the second-floor stairs. My eyes went to the two guys sitting on the sofa. I turned on my heel, heading straight for the stairs. I could feel my roommate's eyes fixed on me.
"Looks like it was a good party." Nathan's voice echoed through the guest room.
"Nine out of ten." I smiled as I put my foot on the first step.
"Someone's going to be sick in the morning." James' sonorous laughter reached my ears.
"I hope one of you has medication for headaches." I put my next foot on the step. "I'm going to need them." I rolled my eyes.
Probably the alcohol, or maybe the damn high heels, but for a moment, I lost my balance. That's how drunk Amelia collapses at every corner. James stopped me from falling with a blink of an eye. Maybe it wasn't one blink of an eye? I'm sure he was sitting on the sofa five metres from the stairs. How did he manage to get to me so quickly? Come on. My drunken brain is playing jokes on me. James let go of me before making sure I was firmly on my feet.
"Thank you." I dropped my gaze to James' green eyes.
"Girls should not be allowed to throw themselves on the ground." James smiled as he increased the distance between us.
I kicked off my shoes without taking another step. I didn't want to fall from any higher. Finally, I reached the last step, then turned towards my bedroom. I hadn't had time to find out where the bathroom was. It's not very important now. All I want is to reach the soft bed. I opened the bedroom door, and Brook was already comfortably ensconced in bed. Two dark eyes turned towards me, and a white smile shone in the darkness.
"How was your visit to the toilet?" I put my high heels near the wardrobe.
"Disgusting." Brook rolled her eyes in my direction.
I slowly walked to the window to open it a little. It was too hot in the room for me. Besides, I have a strange habit of always falling asleep in a cool room. I could feel the cool air rushing into the room. I slowly took off my dress, then walked to my side of the room towards the bed. The soft material felt good against my naked skin. I didn't lie down. Instead, I took a sitting position since my head was still spinning. I decided that it would be a bad idea to lie down. I bent my knee up to my chest, not wanting to show how bad I actually felt. Brook rolled onto her side, so she was facing me. My eyes wandered for a moment to the window where the night stars shone through.
"What is that?" I saw Brook's eyes travel to my collarbone.
I know what she means. It's my tiny birthmark, or maybe more like a stamp. I've had this little spot in the shape of a partial moon since I was a child. I always tried to hide it when I was younger because kids in high school used to bully me for such a simple thing. But now that I'm a succubus, it's like a reminder that I'm special. Not everyone has such a beautiful birthmark.
"It's a birthmark." I smiled, running my fingers over my collarbone.
"In such a strange place?" Brook stuck one hand under her pillow, looking into my eyes.
"It's a lovely reminder that all people are different and beautiful." I smiled as I made myself more comfortable in bed.
"Thank you for going with me to that crazy party. We really could have gotten into trouble." Brook smiled as she nodded.
"We're roommates. It's a little celebration for both of us. Good night Brook, I'll see you in the morning." I smiled as I made myself more comfortable in bed.
"Goodnight, Amelia." The words left Brook's lips in silence.
I closed my eyes as I got more comfortable on my bed. My body still seemed to resist sleep. Closing my eyes made everything spin, but taking deep breaths, I tried to calm myself. Before I knew it, my thoughts had drifted to strong tattooed arms and dark blue eyes. Little by little, my body sank into a deep sleep.
When I opened my eyes wide, I was immediately greeted by a terrible headache. Damn it, does a hangover have to be that bad? I rolled over onto my other side, my eyes drifting towards Brook. The roommate's wide smile seemed to light up the room. She was holding a glass of water in her hand and medication in the other. How can she feel so good after last night's party?
"Good morning, my love." Brook held the glass out in my direction.
"Where's your headache and hangover?" I wrinkled my forehead as I sat up in bed.
"I know my limits. Come on, drink. It should help with your head." Brook smiled as she turned her eyes to the glass in her hands.
Without waiting for anything else, I took the glass of water from Brook's hands and took a drink. With a simple motion, I popped the tablet into my mouth, then swallowed it with the water. I placed the glass on a small statue near the bed. All my stomach requires at the moment is food. I should probably make breakfast. Of course, first of all, I have to buy the necessary products.
"What are the plans for today?" Brook stood up from the bed and walked towards the wardrobe.
My eyes went to the window. Of course, the weather didn't bode well. Tiny drops of rain raced down the glass. I'll probably have to order the right products, and I hope there is such a service in this town. I really would not want to go anywhere in this weather.
"I think first is breakfast, and then bed.” I got out of bed and headed for the closet. “What terrible weather."
"Good news, the fridge is full of food. Bad news, I'm a bad cook." Brook pulled a pair of sweatpants and a black sweatshirt out of the closet.
"I owe you breakfast for the medication in bed." I dipped a glance at Brook.
I hastily pulled a pair of black jeans and an oversized red hoodie out of the closet. I don't want to wear anything flashy or figure-enhancing today. I can still feel my legs tense from those damn high heels. I opened the first drawer of the wardrobe and found my jewellery box and my underwear. Of course, it might be strange to keep the hair ties with my jewellery, but otherwise,I would lose them. With a light movement, I tied my long hair into a messy bun.
"Come on, let's go down to the first floor, enough with the bedroom." I glanced at Brook, who had already managed to settle herself on the bed.
I walked towards the bedroom door. Opening it wide, I could hear the TV on the first floor. Looks like James and Nathan were already up. I have no idea what time it is. But I do know that I need to use the toilet. I stopped at the white door that was the first one when I came up the stairs. I hope my hunch didn't fool me.
"I'll catch up in a minute; I need to do this and that." I threw a glance at Brook, who was already walking down the stairs.
"Take your time with your girl stuff." Brook winked as she glanced over her shoulder.
I quickly used the toilet. Of course, I didn't forget to wash my face and brush my teeth, I don't want to smell like a ferret. I hurriedly left the bathroom, heading straight for the stairs. My stomach growled as if demanding the food I dreamt of, fluffy pancakes with maple syrup and berries. Yes, I already decided what was going to be breakfast. I hope I'll find all the ingredients I need in the kitchen. My foot reached the last step, and my eyes went to Nathan and James on the sofa. I would have thought they'd been here all night.
"Good morning, Amelia." James's eyes darted to me.
"Is your head in one piece?" Nathan rolled his eyes in my direction.
"Hi, guys. Yeah, I'm fine. Who's hungry? I'm not in a bad mood today. Breakfast?" I looked at the guys leaning against the stair railing.
My eyes went to Brook, who was sitting in an armchair reading something on her phone. Nathan and James looked at each other and smiled broadly.
"I'm not going to make you breakfast every morning. Get that stupid idea out of your head." I rolled my eyes and smiled.
A loud knock on the door reached my ears. I hate people who show up on my doorstep so early in the morning. Hell, it's Saturday. Doesn't anyone have better things to do? I took a few steps to reduce the distance to the door. I turned the handle to open the door wide. My eyes immediately rested on two blue eyes. Issac? What is he doing at my front door so early in the morning?
He's wearing a long black coat, probably because of the rainy weather. A dark red jumper was peeking through the opening coat, and a white stamp was sticking out of the collar. The dark jeans showed off his long, toned legs. Raindrops dripped from his brown hair. I could see a few lines on his forehead as if he was thinking carefully about something. In his hand, he held a crimson folder.
"Good morning. I would like to see all the inhabitants of this house in front of me." His eyes wandered for a moment to the folder in his hands. "Brook, Amelia, James and Nathan." Issac's face looked stern.
"Brook, James, Nathan." I turned over my shoulder to call my roommates.
In just a few minutes, we were all lined up like an army. Issac's dark blue eyes travelled to each of our faces. I couldn't keep quiet of course, I had to ask.
"Issac, is something wrong?" I looked at Issac with my dark eyes.
"One of the students was reported missing last night." Issac marked something in the folder with a pen.
