CHAPTER TWO

1486 Words
AMELIA’S POV: Amelia sat at the edge of her bed. The room was bathed in the soft glow of the evening light, casting a serene ambiance that contrasted sharply with the turmoil in her heart. She took a deep breath, her hand moving to rest on her belly. How would Adrian react when she told him? The thought sent a shiver down her spine, a mix of excitement and anxiety. She had always envisioned a future with him, the Alpha of their pack, her destined mate. The ceremony was tomorrow, and she had hoped to share the joyous news then. Amelia imagined Adrian's strong arms around her, his voice filled with love and pride as he learned about the life they had created together. She pictured his eyes lighting up, the same way they did whenever he looked at her. But doubt crept in, unbidden. What if he wasn't ready? What if he saw this as an obstacle rather than a blessing? She shook her head, trying to dispel the negative thoughts. Adrian had always been caring and protective. He would understand, wouldn't he? She got up and paced the room, her mind racing. She needed to find the right words, the perfect moment to tell him. Perhaps after the ceremony, when they would be officially recognized as mates, the pack celebrated their union. It would be a moment of joy and unity, the perfect time to share their happiness. Amelia paused by the window, looking out at the familiar landscape of their space. She could see the pack members going about their evening routines, the sense of community strong and comforting. This was home, and Adrian was a part of that. She touched her belly again, a small smile playing on her lips. This child was a symbol of their love, a new chapter in their lives. She had to trust in their bond, in the love they shared. Adrian would understand, and they would face this together. With a renewed sense of determination, Amelia returned to her bed, lying down and closing her eyes. Tomorrow, she would speak to Adrian. Tomorrow, she would share their secret, and together they would embrace “I don’t want you as my mate, I never did! So I, Adrian Blackwood, reject you, Amelia Carter, as my mate “ Adrian said, looking Amelia straight in the eye. Everyone gasped at the shocking announcement made by their alpha. No one would have expected that the two most romantic couple’s love story would end in an embarrassing situation. Amelia stood still like a log of wood confused and shocked at the same time. “Why would….why would you say such a thing” she said, making her way through the crowd, with her voice breaking down and almost at the brink of tears. “This wasn’t what we planned Adrian, you can’t do this to me, you… you can’t” she said, not minding how many people were there, holding on to his multicolored vintage short sleeve shirt, her eyes already burning with tears. “Whatever you say now won’t change anything, I’ve made up my mind, and nothing you say or do would be able to change that,” Adrian said, with tears welling up in his eyes, but standing strong as ever so as not to allow Amelia to sense the sadness in his tone. “I believe you’ve heard what my son has to say,” Lila said, in a rather harsh tone. “Good… good evening Mother,” Amelia said, in a shaky voice. “Amelia dear, let's not waste time with pleasantries. You see, I have tolerated your presence far longer than I should have. My son, Adrian, has always been too kind-hearted for his good, and it seems you've mistaken his kindness for something more." (She rises slowly from her chair, her movements deliberate and menacing, and begins to circle Amelia like a predator.) "He may think he loves you, but love is such a fragile thing, easily shattered by reality. And the reality, my dear, is that you are not fit to be by his side. Your influence is a blight on his potential, a distraction from the greatness he is destined to achieve." Lila, I... I didn't come into Adrian’s life to cause trouble. I love him. Truly, I do." (She swallows hard, trying to steady her voice, but there’s a quiver of fear and hurt.) "I know you don't think I'm good enough for him. And maybe I'm not what you envisioned, but... but Adrian deserves to make his own choices. He deserves to be happy." (She takes a deep breath, her voice gaining strength and a touch of defiance.) "I won't let you intimidate me into leaving him. You may have power and influence, but you can't control his heart. Adrian loves me, and I love him. If he asks me to go, I will. But not because you told me to. Only because he wants me to." “You shouldn’t be like this, Adrian. You know how much I loved you and I know for a fact that you do too as well,” she said, diverting her attention from his mother, trying her best to convince Adrian, but he was as cold as Ice towards her. Get out of here! He commanded, his hands pointing towards the door at the far end of the hall. “And you better think twice before showing your face to me again,” he said, this time around in a harsher tone. “No! No, Adrian, I won’t leave, you can’t force me to leave, whatever it is that’s making you act like this, you know we can figure it out together” she said, rubbing her hands on his face, trying to get him to look her straight into her eyes. "Please, Adrian, don’t do this," she begged, her voice a broken whisper, raw with pain. Tears streamed down her cheeks, her eyes wide and desperate as she searched his face for any sign of the man she loved. "We can work it out. I love you. Don’t push me away." Adrian’s gaze was like ice, his expression unreadable. He felt her fingers against his skin, the warmth of her touch a stark contrast to the cold resolve in his heart. He had to be firm, had to break this connection before it shattered them both. "Remove your hands from my face," he said, his voice devoid of warmth, each word enunciated with chilling precision. The command cut through the night air, final and irrevocable. Amelia’s breath hitched, her hands freezing as if turned to stone. For a moment, she couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, her heart a fragile thing on the verge of shattering. The reality of his rejection was a knife twisting in her chest, but she forced herself to let go, her fingers reluctantly slipping away from his face. She took a step back, her hands falling to her sides, feeling the absence of his warmth like a physical ache. The distance between them yawned like an abyss, the finality of his words echoing in her mind. Adrian turned away, leaving her standing in the moonlit clearing, the silence filled with the sound of her quiet sobs. “Fine, I’ll leave, if that’s what you want, I’ll leave Adrian, I’ll leave and never return,” Amelia said, her eyes filled with pain, tears, and sadness all at the same time. Amelia headed straight for the door without looking back. She cried on her way as memories of him flashed through her mind, how they first met on a chilly Sunday evening when he confessed his feelings to her. She held her belly as tight as she could, and with tears rolling down her eyes, she made her way through the door “I love you so much Adrian,” she said to herself as she left the huge hall. …… Years later…. Adrian was seen in the woods, thinking and reflecting on his past decisions and what the future had in store for him. “Hey, my man, what’s wrong with you, why are you out here alone by this time of the night?” Caleb said to Adrian as he made his way towards Adrian. “Nothing man, I was just about to leave,” Adrian said as he rose to his feet. “Are you sure man?” Caleb asked him, “Yeah” Adrian replied as he exhaled his breath. Just as they were about to leave, Adrian heard a sudden rustling in the bushes nearby. They exchanged a wary glance, sensing an intruder in their midst. Adrian's instincts flare and he realizes the scent is familiar yet unsettlingly out of place. Just as Adrian moves to investigate, a low growl rumbles through the darkness, followed by a chilling voice that echoes, "You can't hide forever, Caleb."
